KU-UCLA 2000, KU at Texas 2002, An OT game in which we scored 110 and gave up fewer. ISU@KU 1997, a chance to see the greatest KU team of my time.

We had someone named Kinsey in 2000?

Man, Kenny Gregory was a horrible FT shooter.

The shorts on these kids in 2000 look ridiculous!

Foul trouble graphic showed 3 KU players with 4 and none on UCLA.

My favorite player on that team might actually be Nick Collison, though. He's a really good guy off the court.

Two of my favorites as well.

Boschee 3 like 5 seconds into the Texas game. That 2002 team was undefeated in the league. That team was full of iconic KU players. 7 deep, not to mention role players like Michael Lee, Bryant Nash. 7 top 100 guys on the roster.

Apr 08, 2021 06:40 PM #11

Was looking at player stats and Lafrentz shot 17% from 3 in 1996-97. Hard to believe because he made a living in the league for quite some time as a threat from deep.

Apr 08, 2021 06:49 PM #12

Aaron Miles was a master distributor of the basketball.

Apr 08, 2021 07:10 PM #13

Man what a group : Simeon , Collison , Heinrich , Boschee , Gooden - -dam those where the days

Apr 08, 2021 07:11 PM #14

Had to love Boschee hair back then lo, you have to check it out didn't remember it like that

Apr 08, 2021 07:19 PM #15

hu there is a rarity - -Longhorns actually had a sell out back then lol

Apr 08, 2021 07:45 PM #16

My Kingdom for a Boschee, sure didn't remember Collison only being a 57 % free throw shooter. - -What a loaded team 2002 , Heinrich - - Miles - - -Boschee - - Collison - - -Gooden - - Simeon Dam

I was just thinking I wish we had Jeff Boschee on next season's team. Or any season's team. 46.4% from 3 as a senior.

I remember Collison being a bad FT shooter unfortunately. 12/30 from the line in 03 against Syracuse was a large reason we didn't win the championship.

Apr 08, 2021 07:57 PM #18

@KirkIsMyHinrich The FT's ugh. I really wish Drew Gooden had stuck around one more year. I think we're talking about KU being the last undefeated NC instead of Indiana had he stuck around.

Apr 08, 2021 07:58 PM #19

Speaking of teams that could have gone undefeated. The 1997 Jayhawks.

Apr 08, 2021 07:59 PM #20

@KirkIsMyHinrich I looked at their schedule. They were top 2 the first few weeks and then #1 the rest even after they stumbled in double OT at Misery. Still not sure how that team lost.

Apr 08, 2021 08:00 PM #21

34-1 in the regular season with only that overtime loss at Mizzou. And then a loss to an Arizona team that they should have beaten in the S16. One of the best KU teams of all time no doubt.

ya could you imagine Jeff on these past few teams we had? - - WOW

Apr 08, 2021 08:13 PM #23

Man I forgot ALLLLLLLLL about TJ Pugh lol

Apr 08, 2021 09:30 PM #24

I forgot how athletic Raef was before he hurt his knee.

Apr 08, 2021 09:35 PM #25

Also really like those 97 uniforms.

Apr 09, 2021 02:02 AM #26

@KirkIsMyHinrich The dunk vs MU is still one of the best all time. Crazy athletic.

Apr 09, 2021 03:15 PM #27

The floor for the '97 game I'm watching still has the Kansas map on the center logo and student seating like when I was a student, bleachers right behind the basket down to the floor. It's where I always sat when I was there.

Apr 09, 2021 07:45 PM #28

@wissox I miss the map.

When Bill came and it changed it was one of the many strikes I had against him. (I think I was 10 at the time?). In my mind, Bill was never going to be Roy. And I was sooooo sure of this in his 3rd season.

We started the season losing to Arizona and Arkansas at the Maui Invitational. Then we lost at home to Nevada and St. Joe in MSG. We were 3-4 to start the season. Then we got a little hot but lost to Mizzou and KSU back to back games and started the conference season 1-2.

Obviously young me was calling for his head.

Then we go on to win 15 of 16 conference games, win the conference, win the conference tourney (and unfortunately this is the Bradley season).

But yea I still think of the old half court logo pretty much every game I go to. Really miss it.

I was sitting in the front row of the student section for the '97 Mizzou game when Raef came flying right at us for that huge dunk. I was there from 94-98 when they were 58-0 at home. Such great memories. Wish I had known sooner that those games were on TV. I could've pointed myself out in the stands to my kids
