Here it comes... the long-awaited showdown is back! So if you are a Lawrence resident, better keep your trash inside this weekend because there will be lowlife Tig fans in town, digging in trash cans looking for food scraps.

Happy? Sad? Indifferent?

Many fans may need a refresher course on what this game means to other fans.

It didn't take long for me to get revved up for this one... I'm jacked to have the opportunity to spank the lowly Tigs again!

I recall my student days in Lawrence... all I can say is... it was a bad idea to have Missouri tags from Boone County in Lawrence before the big rival games!

Feel free to share your rivalry stories here. I'm still keeping some of my stories close to the vest because I'm not sure the statute of limitations has passed!

How important is this game?

If we lose... we not only lose to Mizzou... we give backdoor bragging rights to Wichita State since they already beat Mizzou this year.

Just another game, Missouri has zero credibility as a basketball program.

The Mizzou game is one that we just can't afford to lose. Its a must win for the dignity of KU's program. When I consider rivals, like KState, I would rather lose to KState than Mizzou. I would rather lose to Kentucky, NC or Duke than Mizzou. Saturday is a must win. RC

@stoptheflop Spot on! I know many people like to discredit the importance of this game because they don't want to give any acknowledgement to Mizzou... but we would all feel the pain on a loss, and more than a typical loss.

I miss the rivalry. So many of our games are milktoast.

My Juco prof was a good guy. As proof, he's the one who recommended KU. He was a punter for Missouri in the 70's. When I went and saw him and told him my news of going to KU, he said "So you're going to become a f.....ing Jayhawk". At the time I was really unaware of the rivalry. It didn't resonate up here in Chicago. But I learned soon enough!

I am appreciative of the opportunity to play them again. It was an automatic two games on the schedule to look forward to when they were in the league. While I think it was very foolhardy of them to leave for the SEC, I still wanted them on the schedule. Similarly I'd like us to still play Texas and OU on occasion. Those were usually good games, or sometimes instant classics like the Buddy Hield game.

My 78 year old mother asked me today if I'd pick her up while she was getting her car's oil changed on Saturday and hang out for an hour or so.

Me: What time?

Mom: Noon.

Me: OK, I'll make you a sandwich, but I've got stuff I have to to do from 2:00-5:00.

Old story but Snopes verifies it's very true. Missouri football had a beautiful football field, made of natural grass. When the time came to modernize, to their credit, they did. Well everyone loved it except the cheerleaders because they had nowhere left to graze. Coincidentally the same thing happened at Silo Tech.

Dayton is ranked 96th on KenPom. Liberty is ranked 114th on KenPom. Mizzou, who lost to Liberty by 21 points, is ranked 139th on KenPom. Not that I care that much what KenPom thinks at this point in the season, or in general really, but Mizzou really sucks. I will be disappointed if we don't win by more than 25 points.

Ha ha. yeah. I was trying to make a commentary about the 150-95 bludgeoning of Kentucky from the Roy vs. Pitino years in '89. If we did even just one better and Missouri did one worse it would be lovely.

Honestly, at the kind of game pace where we're putting up 150+ it's not out of the realm of possibility for even Misery to score 90, with that many possessions.

How about I amend my wishlist to a 151-65 spanking? Heck, while we're in a pie-in-the-sky mode, how about a Grinnell-like 187 - 59 spectacle? :)
