The Athletic has been rumored to be possibly bought out for some time. I received an email today that it happened. Bought by The New York Times Company.

Huge relief because the rumors had it going to the peole who own Bleacher Report or to Barstool (gag). NYT may have made some big snafus, but they are definitely a well-funded org that will likely be able to keep all the great The Athletic's reporters.

I would have loved to see them link up with Bleacher Report. That would have been a good duo.

BR is too intertwined with sports gambling for my taste. I don't want my sports news reports flooded with that crap. TA does some odds and predictions, but I do not question their independence from sponsors.
