Tonight's Game vs Tech
Jan 24, 2022 05:00 PM #1

Obviously Saturday was an emotional game on so many levels and KU pulled out the win. Short rest turnaround for this Big Monday game at Home against Tech who whipped our buts not even a few weeks ago.

What are we expecting tonight?

Tech's defense seems to be by far the best in conference and the two guys who were not available for game 1 when they whipped us are back now.

On the flipside KU has Remy Martin back, Wilson has stepped up & McCormack is back in the starting lineup which was all in limbo when they first played.

KU is in first place in the Big-12 standings with Baylor and Tech a loss back. We gotta hold serve. Hopefully we get another big game out of Och and enough playmaking around him. We are at home and have a feeling the fans with students back might make life difficult for this veteran Tech team.

KU is AP #5. Tech is #13. Vegas has us 7pt fav's

Jan 24, 2022 05:27 PM #3

Will Patrick show up? I can't take another stressful game. My :heart_suit: just might give out.

Jan 24, 2022 05:30 PM #4

@RockChalkinTexas

I would expect another stressful game. We've had enough of them lately. But Allen Fieldhouse has a way of helping out when we need it.

Jan 24, 2022 05:37 PM #5

@RockChalkinTexas he might. I went to the nova game a few yrs back, we won! He and his gang yelled for us and he stood up and encouraged the fans to yell! So, I hope not tonight. Bet they're recovering and doing film

Jan 24, 2022 05:54 PM #6

I just hope we have some energy tonight.
It’s going to take an effort to deal with that TT defense. Och and Braun (as usual I guess) need to be ready to break down that D.

"Since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996-97, Kansas is 74-20 all-time on ESPN Big Monday (44-1 at home and 30-19 on the road), including 55-14 under head coach Bill Self (33-0 at home and 22-14 on the road)."

@Kcmatt7

wow never lost under Self at home on Big Monday. Guess I see why Vegas has it the way they do. Looks like we can expect this team to be amped up

Jan 24, 2022 06:53 PM #9

@BeddieKU23 And no doubt Self devoted more prep to Tech than KSU in week prior. May explain some of the defensive struggles early.

Jan 24, 2022 07:07 PM #10

I hope we don't let down after that huge amp-up at KSU. I wondered if it also might have had something to do with Bill losing his dad. If we scrap like we did on Saturday tonight... TT is doomed!

It's hard to beat us twice in this league. I would think we come amped and ready to kick some Red Raider butt tonight!

Jan 24, 2022 07:51 PM #11

@benshawks08

Perhaps there is something to the fact Self wasn't at practice for either game last week due to his dad.

Expect a hard fought game but we gotta hold serve at home tonight

This starts the toughest stretch of the season for KU. 5 straight games against teams that will be in the NCAA tournament. We have found out a great deal about this team recently for better or worse. Imo going 3-2 in this stretch would be great but 5-0 would really give us something to be excited about.

This is a payback game, if KU isn't motivated by thar alone, there's a big problem.

@Kcmatt7 This could be the instigator of @drgnslayr ’s elusive chip. If this team adopts a rallying cry with this much meaning to them and coach it could be the start of something.

Jan 25, 2022 01:28 AM #22

Virginia can start before us anytime. 13 minutes to spare tonight

Jan 25, 2022 01:29 AM #23

Stunned ! An ACC game that runs less than 2 1/2 hours !

Jan 25, 2022 01:30 AM #24

Wow, like everyone else, I'm shocked, there's empty seats at UNC

Jan 25, 2022 01:31 AM #25

@nwhawkfan

A week full of a lot of miracles

Jan 25, 2022 01:34 AM #26

Okay gang, everybody for a third stressful sports day in a row ? As if the K-State and Chiefs-Bills games weren't enough.

Even today's stock markets were a carbon copy of the KSU game...down big halfway though, only to eke out a narrow win at the end.

Time to take a deep breath (or five). LET'S GO JAYHAWKS !

Jan 25, 2022 01:41 AM #27

This team has only one player among the NCAA leaders. Och is 15th in scoring.
The team itself has its stamp all over the stats. We live by the strength of each other.

Jan 25, 2022 01:43 AM #28

Let's go #Jayhawks β€πŸ’™
Kick their ass in the paint.
Drive it down their throats.
I'm ready RCJH

Jan 25, 2022 02:07 AM #46

Jan 25, 2022 04:39 PM #49

@benshawks08

I feel weird talking about a man's death being used to motivate a team... but I will accept it if it comes our way.

This has all made me journey back to the TRob days... and how his situation helped our team come together and fight. That team completely overachieved!

Jan 25, 2022 04:49 PM #50

@drgnslayr Grit and "chips" can only be built through adversity. Grief is a powerful emotion that impacts everyone around you. I imagine we ALL know a little bit about that in recent years as I know few who haven't been hit with something in the last two years. To me it's not so much using a man's death, but acknowledging it has happened and taking what you can from it. After I lost someone I certainly spent a lot of time contemplating lessons learned from her, how she impacted my life, how she'd want me to live, etc. I've already heard Self doing the same and if his team buys into that, it has the potential to bring them closer together, make them want to fight harder for each other, and develop them into a better, more cohesive team.

Death is an unavoidable fact of life and if you don't use it and the grief that comes along with it to help you decide how to live whatever you've got left, what was it all for?

Jan 26, 2022 03:28 PM #51

@benshawks08

Well stated! I can tell you've been through it. And we also honor those lost by keeping them in our consciousness and with their impact upon us.

Struggle can be a great motivator to higher places. Thank you for using the right words here!

A requiem for the late, great Marcus Garrett...

Bryson goes for 33. Pack goes for 35. Two very different players... different size... different skill set. BOTH would have been limited if Marcus was still on this team!
