Annual KU Buckets awards
Apr 22, 2022 02:41 PM #1

Because we didnt win as much individual hardware... I would like to create an (un)official KUBuckets annual Ochai Agbaji award for the biggest team player on the team. This year the award goes to Ochai Agbaji, with Dajuan 2nd in my voting and Dave third.

Dave Mccormack wins the first annual Dave Mccormack award for grit and grind, Wilson wins the Jalen Wilson versatility award, Remy wins the Remy Martin xfactor award, and CB wins the CB award for talking the talk while walking the walk.

@approxinfinity CB! Hilarious, gonna miss him more than anyone. Not counting srs.

Apr 22, 2022 03:46 PM #3

No Mitch mention? He gets the award for playing at KU longer then Perry Ellis did

Apr 22, 2022 05:03 PM #4

Gotta have a Mitch award! Most loyal Jayhawk? Previous winners, dtae, mason and Mari. Oops sherron. Probably more!

Apr 22, 2022 08:42 PM #5

@Crimsonorblue22 Maybe call it the Lightfoot Longevity Award, and include a Social Security card.

Apr 22, 2022 11:12 PM #6

@mayjay And an AARP membership.

And an AARP NIL!

Interesting datum: Mitch has been at KU for 31.5% of the time Self has coached here.

Apr 23, 2022 02:03 AM #9

Just read Mitch is now the KU record holder for most career wins with 171. Tyrel Reed was the record holder with 132. Sherron Collins has 130. That record might never be broken with the portal becoming a major factor in college sports.

Apr 23, 2022 12:16 PM #10

@tis4tim The portal and Mitch playing 5 seasons. Lightfoot did average around 34 wins per season though. Don’t know how we’ll replace him.

Former Jayhawk but still in college player of the year award? I guess since Charlie helped lead his team to the final 8, I award it to Charlie Moore!

Apr 25, 2022 02:17 AM #12

Most championships among siblings Chris Teahan and his much older bro who won in 2008 and also played in the NC game in 2012. Undoubtedly they're the only brothers in KU history to win national championships, even more remarkable that they were both walk ons.

Apr 25, 2022 02:24 AM #13

Above wouldn't edit, so changed it to this more amazing facts. Most championships among siblings Chris Teahan and his much older bro who won in 2008 and also played in the NC game in 2012. Apr 25, 2022 03:52 AM #14

@wissox Each Teahan also redshirted while at KU and made a Final Four in their first and last seasons at KU so just like Lebron needs a Jayhawk to win an NBA title, Self needs a Teahan to make a Final Four.

Apr 25, 2022 12:22 PM #15

@Texas-Hawk-10 And it is nice to know we have never gone to the IARP because of either secret weapon.

Charlie gets my " help out my former team by turning the ball over 18 times in the 2nd half" award. He really sparked a big win!

@BeddieKU23 Forget Perry Ellis - I think Dr Naismith actually consulted on the rules with Mitch.

Apr 25, 2022 08:22 PM #18

It’s the Mitch Lightfoot Crimson and Blue Blood award

Has to be awarded by our own resident @Crimsonorblue22 or it aint legit!

Apr 25, 2022 11:21 PM #20

The Remy Martin fanboy award should go to me. He was my favorite player.

Apr 26, 2022 12:12 AM #21

@Texas-Hawk-10 That's even more amazinger!

@Jethro Umm, no awarding yourself anything, although we can award other posters, which is what I thought this post was about when I saw the headline.

On 2nd thought, we better not award anyone anything except for @approxinfinity who is the true GOAT for his rescuing us and somehow finding us after we all bolted from the KUSports thing. I remember just thinking all of a sudden like these online folk have been a part of my life for years and now they're all gone but I somehow got contacted by someone to come to the Bucket. Many thanks for Mr. Approxinfinity!!!

I wish I had an online sock puppet that could nominate me. Wonder if HEM would let me borrow one of his sock puppets...

j/k ...kind of...

Apr 26, 2022 09:48 PM #24

I nominate @Jethro for “Cash amount to be named later”

Apr 26, 2022 09:53 PM #25

Ok seriously. I nominate @Jethro for the “New Superstition Award” on account of his new name making us win it all.

Speaking of winning...

Apr 27, 2022 12:06 AM #27

Also i nominate @Crimsonorblue22 for the nostradamus name award. How tf did you know?!?!

Apr 27, 2022 12:12 AM #28

@Jethro I've been waiting for this. I forgot to hit record on the championship game, dumb me.

Apr 27, 2022 12:37 AM #29

@approxinfinity know what?

Apr 27, 2022 03:04 AM #30

@Crimsonorblue22 that we would win in 22 when you chose that name.

Apr 27, 2022 04:24 AM #31

@approxinfinity lol!

Apr 27, 2022 03:09 PM #32

@approxinfinity 22 National champs, 12 National runners up, 02 FF 92 upset loss between FF appearances, 52 National Champs. Good things happen in 2 years and of course 88 and 08 (and 18). Of course that doesn't give us much hope for the next 6 years does it?

Apr 27, 2022 06:11 PM #33

@wissox i am hopeful someone just forgot they left the light switch on for the 6 years in between.

Apr 29, 2022 03:35 PM #34

@Jethro Thank you! I had not been able to find the complete game online (but haven't looked in a while). I've watched all the clips and highlights I could find and the last 3 minutes in full, but not the whole game.

The night of the championship game I was on a train to the Arctic, with no internet or cell service. Hit a pocket of service around midnight and found out I had missed the biggest comeback in the history of the NCAA championship. Woke up half the train.

I scheduled this trip back when we weren't playing well, and thought the chances of us playing that night were remote. I was punished for my lack of faith. Still pretty happy with the outcome.

Apr 29, 2022 05:00 PM #35

@tundrahok I thought it was weird you weren't with us that night! What a night.

May 01, 2022 02:58 AM #36

@tundrahok Interesting story! Can I ask what you were doing up in the Arctic? If I'm prying too much just say nunya and I'll stop! Just curious.

May 01, 2022 04:23 PM #37

@wissox Wildlife research on the tundra and the edge of the boreal forest. I traveled up with 4 grad students who are not basketball fans (they have nothing against it, just don't follow). They gave me grief when I originally said I didn't want to travel on that day, just in case. For future trips I'm going to have to remember who is in charge, and sets our priorities!

May 01, 2022 04:42 PM #38

@wissox he's an amazing guy! But so humble.

May 02, 2022 01:58 PM #39

@tundrahok sounds like the guy in never cry wolf!

May 02, 2022 02:01 PM #40

@wissox I haven't eaten a lemming yet, but I've been tempted...
