LAWRENCE — True freshman Corey Avery took carries with Kansas’ first-team offense during Wednesday morning’s practice just outside Memorial Stadium.

That arrangement could be coming soon — and according to KU coach Charlie Weis, perhaps as early as the season-opener against Southeast Missouri State.

Weis gushed about the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Avery during Wednesday’s news conference, saying in early practices, the speedster had been KU’s most exciting offensive player.
