Good for them thanks to the genius Snyder. What a strory and a class act. I am jealous we haven't kept up.

And what a shame on us.

I've posted before we played a couple of bowl games in the70's when I was at KU with a few making the NFL every year.. Not bad, but nothing like Mangino-he did great things for us and we yanked him like Texas Tech yanking Leach. They are suffering too, thanks to the wussification of America. I'd like to bill these parents who destroyed two programs overnight.

We (KU) better get back to .500 ball and regular bowl game showings NOW.

@JayhawkRock78 I hope I don't get banned for life from this site for what I'm about to say. My dad, who lives just outside of Austin, Tx is coming to visit sometime in September. He's a Longhorn fan, but he has a HUGE man-crush on Bill Snyder.

My dad grew up in Kansas and knows all too well just how miserable of a program that K-State was for decades. He is so impressed with Bill Snyder, as a coach and as a man that he jokingly (???) thinks he should run for President of the United States. (Right now, I think I'd go along with that sentiment.....)

Anyway, I thought I'd see what home games K-State played during September and tell him to come at that time and we'd catch a game and see if he could actually meet Coach Snyder. They have two home games in September. The Auburn game is sold out and last I looked, the UTEP game still had a few standing room only tickets left. Yeah, that's gonna happen..........

I remember vividly listening to Snyder's speech when K-State first hired him and I thought " This poor SOB has no idea what kind of humiliation he's in for. "

I'm a great judge of talent.

@newleaf
Enjoy the game. They are certainly doing things right in Manhattan thanks to Snyder. And the town is growing as a result. My wife grew up there and went to KSU. We visit every year. We drove through this summer and saw a lot of new hotels that have been built recently -I imagine to handle the home game weekends. With so much success in football I would guess attendance for non revenue sports on other weekends has grown as well. I don't like KSU but I can't say it outloud in my house. Even so I have to respect what they've done.

Several years ago I listened to Bill Snyder give his personal testimony at an Overland Park church. He is an amazing man of deep Christian faith and has always enjoyed great respect among his peers, adversaries, & fans. One of his daughters was paralyzed in an auto accident & inexplicably overcame her injuries to walk again. If you've ever a chance to hear him speak, I think you'll be pleased you do. And I too am quite jealous that he's not in Lawrence with his great coaching skills and convictions, trying to lead young men down the proper path in life.

Also FYI, another amazing & inspirational book of personal triumph I would highly recommend is "Rise and Walk" the Denis Byrd story. He is the former Jets lineman paralyzed in a game vs the Chiefs years ago. Is available at public libraries & amazon.com for next to nothing. This is another instance of "you'll be glad you did." One of the many reasons I LOVE this site and it's posters:

Aug. 15 local sports briefs: K-State football tickets scarce

On the other site this would have brought out all KINDS of ugly. "This is a KU site - who gives a crap about K-State or anybody else". Blah blah blah.

Here - we wind up praising their coach! Thanks global - and all the rest of you who are reasonable, objective and decent men and women.

@nuleafjhawk Have you considered Stubhub? Don't know what you're willing to pay but there are many tickets available for the UTEP game.

@nuleafjhawk I told one of my sons just yesterday how much I enjoyed the camaraderie on buckets & that we have only had maybe one or two posters get flagged or banned in the 10 months we've had this board. Is pleasant to trade knowledge, ideas & thoughts on a level with mature, respectful & intelligent people who have a fervor for all things KU, plus a desire to socially interact with those who genuinely care about other people.

@brooksmd Thanks for the tip! Personally, I'd go to the game if there were nothing else to do and the price was right. I know my dad would like to meet Coach Snyder, but the chances of that are slim! We'll probably do some other wholesome family activity - watch football on TV, then go to the casino. Lol. Thanks again.....
