ya, I seen this yesterday and people are right - -really sad to see this. - Didn't know Lenny was in this state of shape , not good news , praying for the family, hate to hear

Farewell, No. 16. Thank you for helping make my childhood memories of the Chiefs so wonderful. I am sorry I missed your broadcasting career, but understand you exemplified the friendliness and cheerfulness for which KC has long been renowned. Two superb careers from one man.

@mayjay I was a Green Bay Packers fan when I was a little kid (hey - I didn't know any better). But by 1968, I was a full fledged Chiefs fan. I was always very, very impressed - even at that young age - with Len Dawson's character. He wasn't a beat his chest, run his mouth jerk - he seemed like a genuinely good guy. Nothing that I ever knew of, in his football career or broadcasting career ever changed my mind. He seemed like the real deal.
I told a friend today that Len Dawson was my first sports hero. RIP Len.

Nothing wrong being a Packer fan still am. - But if I remember right he played with Eddie P didn't he and Christan O great gut I remember him doing sports I believe on KMBC will be truly missed. - -sad day

An all time great as a QB and a broadcaster. And always a class act.

@jayballer67 Ed Podolak had 350 yards total offense in rushing, receiving, and kick returning in the Christmas Day 2 OT playoff loss to Miami in 1971. An amazing day, but unfortunately an unsuccessful effort. Still a playoff record, I think.
Joe Posnanski's (formerly of the KC Star) blog today has a very moving tribute to Len Dawson. Among other things, he notes that Dawson was a sportscaster for KMBC by 1971, and he had to put on his suit, and do the sports report the night of that loss. Len told him he was proud that he made it through the broadcast, and didn't stutter once.

Great QB (before my time) and sports anchor for channel 9 and HBO. I honestly did not like his color commentary back in the Kevin Harlan days of the chiefs broadcasts--too much expertise to share at that point maybe. (My wife and I still use his line, "it's just like I was saaay-ying..." when someone screws up). He he was enjoyable to listen to 14 years later when we moved back to the KC area. RIP. There aren't too many true KC sports legends left.
