It’s very, very dire. Coach Leach is truly a national treasure. Above all Bucketeers, Swing Your Sword.

Sadly, Mike Leach has passed away. That man was absolute national treasure. I understand why KU didn't pursue him in 2012, but I would've loved to have had him as coach here.

MSU has no AD currently. I assume the defensive coordinator will coach their bowl game.

61 is awfully young to die of natural causes. Too sad. We all lost quite a character today!

He had a massive heart attack and had been dealing with pneumonia for a chunk of the season so it doesn't sound like he had been in great health recently.

Leach was as good of an interview as he was as a coach, maybe better (and he was a pretty good coach). His press conferences could go off on any number of tangents, like when he'd give a soliloquy on pirates. You wonder what kind of teams he would've had if he didn't have to recruit players to out-of-the-way places like Starkville and Pullman.

He'll be greatly missed. The college football world just got a whole lot less colorful.

@nwhawkfan amazing guy for sure. He would’ve taken the job at KU in a second after Gill was let go. Can’t help but wonder what if. We could’ve had a weird, whacky, and winning program.

@FarmerJayhawk I wanted Leach at KU then, but I didn’t think he wanted KU. Never heard any of the inside workings of the coaching hiring fiasco(s) of the time.

I believe KU didn't want him at the time because he was dismissed for similar reasons to Mangino and PR would've looked bad at the time for KU to hire Leach at the time.

And Zenger being an incompetent boob didn’t help
