LAWRENCE -- Here’s a quick rundown of Kansas coach Charlie Weis’ comments from his Tuesday news conference.

■ Said KU’s players should go to Duke with the expectation of winning. “Our players have visual evidence on tape that they have a legitimate chance of winning,” Weis said.

■ Added it “would be a big win for our program.” A win, of course, would put KU at 2-0 with a home game coming up in two weeks.

A couple of quick comment on items in the story.

KU-Duke could be a strength-on- strength scenario. Duke’s strength is on offense with its receivers and KU’s strength on defense is its secondary.

KU's secondary got repeatedly burnt by SEMO receivers by long passes in obvious passing situations in the fourth quarter. Yes, SEMO was in desperation mode, but I would not, at this stage, say that "KU"s strength on defense is its secondary."

Said the fourth quarter didn’t affect the secondary’s psyche.

It better. The mistakes/lapses are fixable but the secondary cannot go into the Duke's game thinking that they are better than they showed in the fourth quarter; if they do that it will be a repeat by Duke's receivers that will go to town on KU's secondary.
