Game against Mexico about to start, TBS

Cade Cowell is one to watch, left forward. Im very high on him. Ferreira to the attacking mid with Vasquez at the 9 is an interesting development. Always happy to see Acosta start in midfield. Yedlin at right wingback is the weakest link.

Zimmerman addressing Mexico to tell them not to discriminate before the game was priceless. Not arrogant and condescending at all šŸ˜‰

Forgot about Pepi partying with a Wales shirt on after being left off the team (and hanging up on Berhalter). Would be happy to start over at the 9 if Vasquez can settle into it.

Was out of town and didn’t get to watch. How did we do? Play all youngsters?

We seemed very reserved. Not offensive minded. At least up until the point i lost interest and went to bed. Cade Cowell didn’t really touch the ball. Ferreira at the 10 didnt seem to give us much. He did score after I quit though.

Watched a little. Like you I was totally looking forward to watching Cade Cowell. He was invisible. Weird. Thought he’d be the focal point.

Looks like we're making progress in the front office. Reports saying we've hired a sporting director. Next up, a coach! Calling Jesse Marsch, calling Jesse Marsch...

I say that mockingly because the new guy was looking at hiring him! ha.

Southampton director of football operations Matt Crocker is set to be tabbed as the next sporting director of the U.S. Soccer Federation, sources told ESPN.

Well, looks like it's happening:

Jesse Marsch has yet to sign any contract with the USMNT, so the move is not a done deal. But he is reportedly on the verge of joining the Stars and Stripes in place of Anthony Hudson after Nations League matches in June.

@rockchalkjayhawk i dont feel great about this. Felt like a former high profile player would be better. The team had a hard time connecting with Berhalter. Will have to read up on Marsch.

I’m with ya so far.

Reading up on Jesse’s style…

Without oversimplifying, Marsch’s tactics are built around a fast vertical attack, with players in close proximity to set-up a ferocious counter-press if they lose the ball. They won’t go man-for-man, but the intensity off the ball and attacking intent of Bielsa’s side in possession will remain.ā€

ā€œMarsch plays that press, counter-press, work rate, attacking football. He won’t dig in and try to nick a point because he’s not capable of it. It’s not what he does. ā€œUnless he has a total change from what he does, I don’t think he’ll focus on defence. I think he’ll find a way to have a more effective press.

Marsch favours a 4-2-2-2 formation, otherwise known as the ā€˜box’ midfield, designed to move the ball forwards, in a straight line, as fast as possible.

It’s a subtle change in the press, moving away from man-marking to something which actually stops the opposition at source, which Marsch will use to prevent goals against his team.

This is a great tactical breakdown if you’re into the fine points:

Btw, watched Tim Ream break his arm in half today against Man City.

That was very ugly.

I wish Vincent Kompany was our next coach.

A bit young and unproven in his coaching career?

Loved him as a player though!
