It looks like the angles two way star is about to sign a 600 million dollar contract. Seems like a raw deal to me. Probably ok if all you care about is wins and losses, but he doesn’t interact with fans, won’t even comment on his “recruitment”. Where is the value? Does he have a huge following? I’d be upset if the Royals blew their budget on a player like that. No one can carry a team by himself (damn you bumgarner) and he doesn’t add much off the field. I guess his historic production is adequate to generate enough interest to create the treasure required to pay him? Pretty wild!

I have no problem with Ohtani as a person or player. Amazing talent. Really exciting. And yeah, huge international following.

@approxinfinity He’s as Boring off the field as baseball is on the field is is my only complaint. Seems to be a decent human, but who really knows.

Mike Trout + Ohtani and they won nothing. Angels organization is trash, but it highlights the value any single player brings to the table. It takes a team. - pay attention salary cap sport players (57 million cap hit for Mahomes next season. Ouch!)

Our cheapskate owner in a press conference a month ago said 'of course we're not going after Shohei". Thanks Jerry for giving us zero hope like ever for having a competitive team again.

Wow 700 million with the Dodgers!

Dec 09, 2023 11:27 PM #8

And the Dodgers still have very little pitching. Not the best use of resources IMO.

Angels made a brilliant move not trading him.

Dec 11, 2023 11:02 PM #10

He's deferring 680 of the 700. Endorsements must be insane

Dec 12, 2023 12:10 AM #11

The article on espn says 45 mill annual in endorsements. Deferring the 680 until 2034.

Smart.

In other news i think Baltimores 2023 payroll was somethinng like 66 million. Lol

Our society sickens me. What about the men & women who put their lives on the line for us every day? Or first responders, doctors/nurses. Probably many others that I'm too mad to think of right now.

Dec 12, 2023 03:30 AM #13

@nuleafjhawk Capitalism at its finest. We have too much money as a society (any $ over food and shelter) and really like to blow the excess on entertainment. I prefer the way Elon blows thru millions trying to get a person on Mars, but many enjoy watching grown men hit balls with wooden bats only to run in circles. To each their own - I like both fwiw, would hate for KU to stop spending on sports!

@dylans You young people and your acronyms...
FWIW?

Fat Women in Wyoming?

Fairies With Ignorant Ways?

Flying While I'm Wasted?

Feeding Wynonna Irish Whiskey?

Oh well, for what it's worth, we pay athletes waaaay too much IMHO

It fixes a lot of problems….

Dec 12, 2023 04:43 PM #18

@Gorilla72 and causes a lot.

Dec 12, 2023 05:06 PM #19

@nuleafjhawk - nothing mo’ money can’t fix. Until there isn’t any more. Greed & money are the roots of evil…

Dec 12, 2023 05:18 PM #20

@Gorilla72 now I'm going to play Pink Floyd - Money.

Dec 12, 2023 05:39 PM #21

@dylans Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash

Dec 12, 2023 07:08 PM #23

@dylans I have to finish what I started. The next Lyric ties right in with what we've been talking about:

New car, caviar, four star, daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
