Hyperbole de Devante!
Dec 06, 2014 06:54 PM #1

So I just watched replay and Devante reminds me of Isiah Thomas ↗!

Similarities:

  • Same height (Isiah is 6'1", Devante was 6' when he signed and now 6'2" at KU)

  • Both right handed

  • Both have smooth stroke

  • Both smile a lot!

Is it safe to say Devante will lead us to a NCAA title, win back to back NBA championships and go on to be one of the worst GM's in league history?!?!

@VailHawk I wouldn't call it hyperbole, though I'm sure there are those with much better talent evaluations than I on here who might. Valid discussion point. I thought Isiah played with an authority that Devonte will eventually learn. I would like for Devonte to start getting 2nd helpings at the chow line, and put some meat on those bones. Personality wise, he has enormous poise and confidence for a freshman. He is a very good defender, a GREAT passer, and he has enough offensive moves to keep the defense honest.Traps, presses appear to be just another day at the office for him. I wonder how far our team would've gone if Devonte was a freshman two years ago. I absolutely love his game - I see why Coach was thinking about playing him and Frank at the same time.

@VailHawk

If I squint my eyes... I can see Isiah.

But he hasn't proven anything to deserve the comparison.

Here is Isiah Thomas:

I remember watching that game. I remember looking at Isiah's ankle, and it was the size of a grapefruit.

Detroit couldn't cash in on Isiah's guts that year, but they did after that!

Isiah is one of the guys I want beside me in a foxhole.

@KUSTEVE

Missed that one. Still weeping over the UCONN loss. :)

@KUSTEVE thanks for that. Here's a good article about the significance of NJITs win over Michigan.

@DanR HAHA! Not nearly as striking a similarity as Svi compared with Ensign Chekov in the new Star Trek.

@VailHawk

He also sucked as college coach...

@drgnslayr

I respect Isaiah Thomas as player but I never really cared for him. He struck me as player with a chip on his shoulder and always trying to get into fights (Rondo is that way too); perhaps that was part of playing for Detroit. As good as he was on the court, he was terrible as a coach and manager and widely disliked by other NBA players. He never got over the attention Jordan and Bird got and never stopped to think they got the good press because they were likeable, at least in public, while he relished and never got over the idea of being a Detroit "bad boy."

@KUSTEVE

KSU loss was a disappointment; too many mistakes and even Foster's 3-point barrage a the end of the game was not enough.

OSU got spanked by a very average South Carolina team, Forte went 1-14...that is right, smurf on steroid went 1 of 14 from the field. Why is it that he doesn't shoot like this against KU?
