Huggy has a couple of Final Fours and Elite Eights but does not have a Title. He had his best chance was 1999-2000, when Cincinnati was a #1 seed but Kenyon Martin, the player of the year broke a leg just before the tournament and Cincinnati made it only to the second round.
@JayHawkFanToo My nephew from Memphis played for Lee Hunt at UMKC that season & Bearcats beat them at the buzzer in Municipal. Tony Dumas played on that team also & was the 19th pick in the draft by the Mavs. He played for several yrs in the L & several more in Europe. Ronnie had so much physical wear & tear that he didn't play after college though he was invited to a few camps, Bulls, Hawks, Suns. Works for Butler Engineering & lived in St Louis for many years now. That was a damn good UMKC team & did not get an invite despite having around 23-24 W's. Also those were some extremely enjoyable years for our family. Made a lot of road trips & most all home games for four straight years. Lots of good times & memories. Plus, I was still a young middle age guy then too.
My brother lived in Lubbock before he died and was in charge of ticket sales for the city and for TT. Each year that KU played in Lubbock, I was able to sit behind Bobby Knight and watch the Jayhawks win. Once my brother and I snuck into the new arena and watched Roy work out the team before the game. As we walked out afterwards, Dick Vitale was getting out of a white Limo and yelled at us "Go Raiders." We responded that we were Jayhawks, then he yelled "Rock Chalk Baby."
By the way, Bobby Knight used the "F-bomb" in the huddle loud enough for 5 rows around him to hear.

Driving there would give you an idea of what a moon landscape would look like. It feels like you are in Mississippi with all of the cotton fields surrounding the city.
The Brazos river runs next to the stadium in Waco. Then it winds its way down here just West of Houston.
Now in my John Wayne voice, "You can......water your herd on the Brazos at my place.......it's close by and the waters a lot cleaner too......"
If you take half the stadium off on the right hand side. And that track has some funny turns-kind of tough on sprinters..

The Brozos runs north of the campus and the new stadium (new this year) is right beside it-running west to east at that point. I'd say the stadium was the house that RG3 built-but really some alums have been poring money into the program for a while. I haven't been there but have some friends with kids just graduated or attending now. Should mean an opportunity for tickets soon. I will report once I get inside but I expect good things-nothing on the scale of A&M -was there a month ago-but nice.
@JayhawkRock78 it looked really cool, think someone said they developed it around the river, comparing that to us w/the hill.
It is pretty, but I need to qualify " river". Old time Texans claim everything is "bigger in Texas". Not so for rivers-given the size of the state rivers are VERY important and can be far and between. I am pretty sure you can wade across nearly all of them in plenty of places.

While all of us are excited about our newly acquired Bragging right, can the great BBall posters of KUbuckets share some thoughts about what the team should get out from the TTU game; especially on what Ellis, Seldon and Svi should do to improve their coming games. Thanks. RCJH
After this game, ISU plays WVU. Huggie has the best defense in the big 12 leading the nation in steals. The game is on ESPN 2 at 7.
Tubby now has the Kids he wants, no OAD's and he will coach this team into the dance in the next two years. Lots of money in that town and they did spend a fortune on their relatively new arena. Football rules, but winters can get cold down there and a warm Barn Burner makes for a great distraction to the bare-ass nature of West Texas.
How exciting is it that every game feels huge right now? I like the 10 team league for that reason. Ready to enjoy every minute of the ride. Its likely to be bumpy. But, Im pumped to see where the league season and Coach Selfs tactics take this team from where they are right now. Having said that, I sincerely hope Ellis doesnt spend much more time "out of it". Rock Chalk!!
Somehow, Perry has had a loss of energy. It might be medical. It began around the Lafayette game where he admitted to not having any energy. The Temple game was the worst until Baylor. There needs to be some blood work done. All of his shots are short and the spring he has had these last two years in gone. Even his free throws. He has been heavily scouted and the spin move has had more swat steals than ever before. He is a great scorer, but if he is the only inside scorer, then double teams and kick out is all we can expect until Cliff finds his Mojo and free's Perry like he has been with Monster inside help.
I'll be surprised if this isn't a 15-20 point game.
Tech will try and stay in games at home but on the road especially Allen Fieldhouse they have no chance. Playing a bunch of freshman first time in the our gym will be frightening to them. We could go on one of those 10-0 runs in the first few minutes like we sometimes do at home. It will be a good game for some of our youngsters. Home opener will be rockin.

Pretty impressed with the crowd energy for a team predicted to finish at the bottom of the B12. Seems they were more into this game than Baylor fans in our game.

I spoke with a physician this morning about Perry Ellis. It is agreed that he does have a medical condition as @wrwlumpy has speculated. The condition is defined as follows:
Shot Bockitis: ShΓ€t blΓ€kΔ«tis - A hoops affliction wherein the brain reacts in a depressive state to continuous rejections. Sufferers can only find relief by a) moving to a different position, or b ) ensuring scheduling against opponents with Willems De vries syndrome. There is no known cure in adults, though children can grow out of the affliction as they become longer and more athletic.
Perry had 16 pts, 9 boards after a slow start against unlv. He will show up again! He is what he is, but he won't quit!!!
I believe Tubby Smith is highly overrated. Yes he won the NCAA in his first year at UK and advanced to the Elite 8the next season...but that was done with the team that Rick Pitino assembled, much like Weber did with Self's team at Illinois. In the next 8 years he had only 2 Elite 8 appearances and the last 2 years they were eliminated in the second round. Considering the players he had at UK he grossly underachieved and he was let go/resigned, depending on how you spin it.
At Minnesota, a program with good potential, he did not do much and was fires after 6 lackluster years and did not have a single year with a conference winning record. I don't expect really expect him to do much at Texas Tech either anymore than I expect Weber to do much at KSU with his own players.
He needs to do what Adrian Dantley, one of the better scores ever in the NBA, did. He would allow the defender to block his first shot and from there one he would use the head fake to score at will. Worked really well for him.
A chance that Devonte could play Tomorrow and Cliff has a back problem.
@JayHawkFanToo I've got to disagree about Tubby. He has an excellent coaching record. Nowhere near any top ten all-time coaches, but many, many schools would like the banners he's won hanging in their Gyms.
Here are the records of the coaches before and after including their NCCA showings past the Sweet 16. I used Kentucky since it is the best showing for Tubby, none of his other coaching jobs is even close to his record at Kentucky. His other HC jobs were: Tulsa - .649. Georgia - .704, Minnesota - .605, Texas Tech .522
These are the conference finishes for Rick Pitino: 4, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2 - 2 Elite 8, 1 Final 4, 1 Runner Up, 1 Championship. 219-50 (.814)

Tubby inherited a top program from Pitino and won the Championship with Pitino's players. I did not list Gillispie since he was there only 2 years and inherited a mess from Tubby; Calipari inherited an even bigger mess from Gillispie.
With UK resources, it is hard not to have a very successful program; Tubby is/was not at the level of Pitino or Calipari.
IMHO, Tubby is at best an average coach. On this issue I guess we will have to respectfully agree to disagree.
I said that Tubby's stats are not in the elite, but many other D-1 schools would love to have him and his overall coaching record. Minnesota never won anything until they cheated. Roy took a team to the championship that Matt built. His teams play well and he is stuck in West Texas where even Bobby Knight could not recruit.
I guess we disagree on this one too. This is a common misconception that over the years has been cited as fact. Doherty did well with the team he inherited from Guthridge and went 26-7 on his first year. The next two years he went 8-20 and 19-16 and he missed the NCAA and the next/last year UNC only made it to the NIT. It took an additional year of Williams recruits and more importantly, coaching, before UNC won the Championship. Sorry but once again we agree to disagree.
Having said that, I firmly believe that Doherty was undermined by Dean Smith in order to bring Roy Williams home; Dean Smith screwed over not only Doherty but his Alma Mater KU as well and to me, this is a huge blemish on his otherwise outstanding record, and one that many KU fans will never forgive or forget...on the other hand we got Bill Self so we came out ahead anyway. :)
KU opened at a 17 pt. favorite and now it is down to 10.

Unless I missed something big, the line opened (that is the very first line announced) at 17 points and currently sits at 15-1/2 consensus (average of all the lines). I doubt it will change more than 1 point between now and game time; there is no way it goes down to 10,
