Table Rock Lake
Apr 27, 2015 12:56 AM #1

@globaljaybird Hey that wasn't you and your wife on HGTV's Lakefront Bargain Hunt looking for a retreat on Table Rock was it?

Apr 27, 2015 03:18 AM #2

@brooksmd No it wasn't but thanks for the heads up-I just set the dvr to get in at 2:30 am.

Apr 27, 2015 03:20 AM #3

@globaljaybird I kinda thought not since Rascal wasn't there.

Apr 27, 2015 03:21 AM #4

@brooksmd I saw that was on, thought the same thing! Great minds, scary!

Apr 27, 2015 03:22 AM #5

@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, and I have no doubt he could've bought any or all of them. :wink:

Apr 27, 2015 03:23 AM #6

@brooksmd nice huh?

Apr 27, 2015 03:25 AM #7

@Crimsonorblue22 If I went to Branson area I'd have to take a tent.

Apr 27, 2015 03:30 AM #8

@brooksmd maybe global would let you stay in the guest house!

Apr 27, 2015 03:52 AM #9

@brooksmd We first started going down there in the late 70's when the lake was pretty much undeveloped & ther was only a handfull of the original family shows like the Presleys. The past 20 years has seen massive sums of corporate money & developments gone wild around the Branson area, but even at that, the place gets pretty deserted for about 3 + months every winter. They spent tens of millions on the Branson Landing on Lake Taneycomo alone. There are still bankruptcies like there's always been, but further to the west there is still hundreds of miles of shoreline with a few small towns here & there without all the glitter of Branson. Same for Taneycomo to the east, but that lake is prone to flooding so lake properties can be tricky or even risky to own. We used to take the boat, the motor home, the tents, & all the kids, plus the dog back in the day. But as we get older times have changed so we're more desiring to just stay there & live a little more comfortably than 30 years ago. It really is a beautiful place even if it is in misery. And there is no shortage of real estate either. Personally I like the area around Kimberling City & that's kind of where our focus is now.

Apr 27, 2015 03:53 AM #10

@Crimsonorblue22 You mean the dog house with Rascal?

Apr 27, 2015 03:55 AM #11

@brooksmd Damn it brooks you know Rascal is a house dog !!

Apr 27, 2015 04:00 AM #12

@globaljaybird So that means I'd have the dog house all to my own? When you're there and walking in the woods you ever hear any dueling banjos?

Apr 27, 2015 04:00 AM #13

@globaljaybird rascal lives well!

Apr 27, 2015 04:04 AM #14

@brooksmd No that means you'd be in first class right along with him !!

Apr 27, 2015 04:08 AM #15

@globaljaybird Good, cause I am house broken.

Apr 27, 2015 04:18 AM #16

@brooksmd We're done with bigger houses & may just get a condo or a small 2 BR home this time. Bigger they are that's just more money you throw in the pit. Gotta be close to the lake though, hopefully with a slip. Pontoons are more our style now, we still swim but were too damn broke down to ski. My flippin John Deere mower beats me up enough as it is. I'm reeeeeeeeally tired of spending one day every week on it.

Apr 27, 2015 04:22 AM #17

@globaljaybird I know about the mowing. Like you I used to spend an entire off day just cutting grass on our 2 acres. Got me a ZTR with a 60" deck and takes me less than 2 hrs unless I stop for a bottle of water when it's really hot.

Apr 27, 2015 04:32 AM #18

@brooksmd If I were staying here I would too. The blade, chains, & wheel weights have been great for snow & gravel, but the damn thing is slow as molasses to mow with. I've done an ass load of work with a little 20 horse tractor. I'll also like to point out that the easily accessible dual cup holder/console is certainly quite serviceable as well !!

Apr 27, 2015 04:37 AM #19

@globaljaybird How do you keep the grass, dirt and bugs out of whatever you have in your "easily accessible dual cup holder?"

Apr 27, 2015 04:43 AM #20

@brooksmd gosh guys, I have to push my mower!!!

Apr 27, 2015 04:51 AM #21

@Crimsonorblue22 You don't get your lawn mowed in return for babysitting the gkids?

Apr 27, 2015 04:52 AM #22

@brooksmd That can be a challenge without a lid or a "sippy" cup-I generally manage to keep something handy besides the brandy.

Apr 27, 2015 04:53 AM #23

@brooksmd no time for mom!

Apr 27, 2015 04:53 AM #24

@globaljaybird sippy cup?

Apr 27, 2015 04:57 AM #25

@Crimsonorblue22 You know, that's what genX parents call their toddlers cups with sliding lids. Except for adults they are
mucho larger & are for coffee...or other adult beverages.

Apr 27, 2015 04:59 AM #26

@globaljaybird been washing and filling them for 4 days!

Apr 27, 2015 05:01 AM #27

@Crimsonorblue22 Gonna have to rack out guys, it's mo damn again tomorrow...mo damn painting, mo damn mowing, & mo damn trimming.

Apr 27, 2015 05:03 AM #28

@Crimsonorblue22 Sounds like you need a break-or someone to mow the damn grass !!

Apr 27, 2015 05:03 AM #29

@Crimsonorblue22 Sippy Cup ↗ Cause @globaljaybird needs to use both hands.

Apr 27, 2015 05:05 AM #30

Me needs to go also. TTFN everyone.

Apr 27, 2015 05:14 AM #31

@brooksmd Ambide, ambide, ambidextrous. Damn was startin to sound like MMMM-el Tillis. BTW he still plays Branson a few weeks a year at 82 years young. Gilley does too & he's about 76 now. Didja know Mel named his band the "Statesiders" after his hitch in the AF was over back in the 50's ?

Apr 27, 2015 05:58 AM #32

@globaljaybird those sayings again!

Apr 27, 2015 02:54 PM #33

@Crimsonorblue22 We got more than fleas on a hound.

Apr 27, 2015 05:29 PM #34

@globaljaybird We were down there at a friend's cabin every summer back in the mid 70's and none of that crap was in Branson. Bikers were the ones who were hanging there. It was trout fishing all day, drinking all night. No TV, cell phones or regular phones for that matter, and no driving for 5 glorious days. It was heaven. The water was so clear and cool. I think I was there when it was the best. I've no desire to go back after all the commercialization. I've seen pictures. It is scary.

Apr 27, 2015 07:27 PM #35

@RockChalkinTexas Ya remember the old Ozark Mountain potatoe chip store on old Main St where they cooked em in the huge kettles while you stood there & watched? All of the old fishing cabins on Taneycomo waterfront there have been gone for about 10 yrs or so now. Somehow Dicks Five & Dime Store has survived but not much else. FWIW the Presley's have one of the very best music/variety/comedy shows you'll find anywhere, even in Nashville. I saw Larry the Cable guy golfing with Cecil just the other day. Those are two funny guys, I don't care who you are!!

Apr 27, 2015 08:20 PM #36

@globaljaybird Taneycomo is where we were. So peaceful back then.

Apr 28, 2015 03:36 AM #37

@brooksmd Just watched HGTV show on Table Rock. While our budget may only be half of the designated couple on the flick, I will say were a helluva lot better looking than they were !! You don't have to spend that kind of money to be on the lake. We've had those expensive & expansive homes before & they are waaaay too much upkeep & maintenance for this old timer. Owning a home is beneficial for tax reasons only. Other than that they're just a money pit.. A condo may be the way for us unless it's small enough for minimum upkeep. Had all of that I want. Besides, a wise man once said "love grows big in little houses."

Apr 28, 2015 03:39 AM #38

@globaljaybird dang, wished I would have watched it. It will be on again.

Apr 28, 2015 03:45 AM #39

@globaljaybird Love that saying!

Apr 28, 2015 03:47 AM #40

@globaljaybird just have some spare room for us when we visit!
