Is there any correlation?
As a walk-on PG, he is really not at all affected by Chuckwu. I would like to think that coming to KU he knew his chances of getting substantial playing time we extremely small and he would be in the same situation as Manning ad Self who want to be part of an elite team, know they will play mostly in practice and have no pro-playing aspirations once they are done with college. Maybe he does want to get more playing time and knows he will not get it at KU.
I think I have read elsewhere on this site that Pollard, as a Mormon, may be leaving in order to go on his two-year mission, which often is undertaken after freshman year.
Pollard has not mentioned the mission idea. Rather, says he is looking at Utah area colleges, turning toward the action of playing at a jr. cllg.
As for the Pollard/Chukwu connection, I can't envision a correlation unless money is no object for Chukwu and he should commit as a walk-on (which seems very unlikely, as there appear to be other major programs dangling scholarships for him). He might probably have been a major acquisition for future SelfBall; but Self chose to go with bird in hand Coleby, at this juncture.
he wanted to be close to home

@wrwlumpy No, there is no limit to the number of walk ons that can be on a team so there is zero correlation. Pollard said he's trying to pay his own way and just can't afford out of state tuition at KU. BYU and Utah both told him they're not looking for a walk on, nothing was reported about Utah St. or Weber St., but Pollard said he's likely headed to a JuCo next year to try and earn a scholarship somewhere regionally.
@jaybate-1.0 I know, time is running out on me.
