Okay... my title didn't quite make it.

The Cyclones have a new coach... Steve Prohm. And the Cyclone fans are pumped, and perhaps they should be.

But what will happen to Otzelberger? Does he want to remain in the shadows?

From first glance it looks like Prohm might be a quality addition to the Big 12.

@drgnslayr Nice article on behind the scenes. I assume he runs the same offense as Fred, so it won't be as big an adjustment for the Clones as I had hoped. And dang it, how many years has Niang been there.....6...7...8... years now? Wish that guy would finally graduate.

Sounds like Otzelberger passed on interviewing for HC jobs elsewhere and did not get the ISU job either; I bet he is not happy.

I'd take him in a heartbeat over Howard right now.

I would like my Otzleberger medium rare with some footers on it, otherwise not sure he is needed.

Fred Hoiberg doesn't seem to wreak with loyalty to his staff. No wonder the other assistant jumped to St. John's.

Self's loyalty to his assistants is truly admirable in this era.

He is a very good recruiter that seem to spot potential among the lesser publicized players. He would make a great replacement for Snacks who, as far as I can tell, was not really involved in the recruitment of any of the players in the current class.

@JayHawkFanToo is that who recruits the criminals? Speaking of that.... Was really sad to hear Rico gathers was arrested for shoplifting yesterday. Household stuff, he's married w/a baby. I like him.

Rico Suave could have chosen to go to the NBA; maybe he will end up there after all sooner than he planned...:(

I'm sure Rico Gathers' shoplifting will morph into blaming the NCAA because players allegedly don't get enough benefits, or some other nonsense deflecting from the fact that Rico Gathers committed a crime and it's his fault.

Vick was snacks

I looked all the recruiting services and none list Snacks as being KU's recruiter for Vick. Snack territory is/was supposed to be the Chicago area where the East-South is more Self-Roberst who, BTW, are named as the recruiters for both Diallo and Bragg.

Again, I would be curious to know where you found the information on Snacks recruiting Vick; the KU Athletics site ↗ that normally has this information does not list Snacks as the recruiter either...maybe this is his punishment for his past misbehavior.

I don't see a happy tenure for Snacks at KU. The negative publicity has to be eating away at the head coach's gut. Alexander family issues exacerbated the negative for Snacks' topnotch 2014 recruiting. Looks to me as though Bill chose not to go to active battle for the kid, leaving the eligibility decision completely in the hands of a notoriously ineffective and foot dragging governing body. I think he was disgusted with the entire combination of issues and was not about to step into the middle of possible legal procedings emanating from that unfortunate recruitment and the subsequent Alexander family hire. (I know, o yes, I know: WHAT LEGAL PROCEDINGS? We shall perhaps see.)

In this area, coaches/ADs have to pick their battles or risk losing credibility. This was a losing battle not worth fighting and wasting future good will.

I've had a hard time accepting Snacks into the Jayhawk coaching family.

I typically have a high toleration for various things in life, but when it comes to working with kids, I keep a short leash. The only way to teach and lead kids is to do it by example, and I think Snacks failed in that area. The old "do as I say, not what I do" phrase is past tense and doesn't work in today's society. Kids are cleaver and they see right through hypocrisy.

That's not new to this generation. Kids have always seen through frauds and will call BS when they see it. I know I got in trouble on more than one occasion for doing something and then asking, "If can do that, why can't I?" Adults don't like getting called out on their hypocrisy by kids very much.

I guess what forms my opinions most are the experiences I had as a player. My best coaches were those who didn't have issues with their own discipline. And the coaches we had that showed areas of their life that weren't tidy, as players we lost respect and we never performed our best for those coaches. Even though, as players, we sometimes fell off the path of righteousness... we didn't want to experience it with our coaches. We wanted them to be the example of what we needed to shoot for.. not just be an older version of us! BTW, I'm not saying that was fair...

That is just what I experienced... and we could see through everything. We lost total respect for coaches trying to hide stuff.
