Michael Lee's new gig
Aug 21, 2015 10:32 PM #1

Former Kansas University guard Michael Lee is new head coach at Portland’s Roosevelt High. This is according to the KU sports site.

I am wondering if he will get any kids he can swing towards UNC or KU? He isnt AAU so would that be similar at all? In terms of athletes talented enough to get offered by a high elite school like UNC or KU.

File this response to your post under hip shooting, speculative, hypothetical.

Kurtis Townsend has seemed until the last few years to have been traditionally very effective recruiting in the PNW and Portland.

I could see Mike Lee building an on-the-ground credibility and presence in Portland that could countervail the AAU team coaches and so be very helpful to Townsend recruiting in the area.

If this trial bears fruit, I could see a model of graduating KU players and assistants early in their coaching careers being placed in high schools in certain desirable recruiting areas and building a parallel and alternative feeder system to the reputed Big Shoe conveyor.

It also bears remarking on that this placement of Mike Lee puts him in the back yard of Nike down in Eugene.

And didn't Lee come from Portland, or was it Seattle?

Rock Chalk, Mike Lee!

Go, Mike Go!!!!

@jaybate-1.0 Im on board with that idea. Pretty sure Mike is from Portland? Either way, it gives us a possible avenue for bringing west coast talent to Larrytown. Again, I also wonder if Mike would be given a call by Ole Roy and have to pick between directing one of his kids to UNC or to KU. I think it would be hard to pick one over the other. I mean Roy was his coach too and it seems he might be loyal to Roy and Bill. Nike and Adidas.
