It would be great if today was the day that Diallo became eligible.

Sep 20, 2015 08:49 PM #3

@wrwlumpy Is that BG? Id imagine he would be a tad out of shape.

Sep 20, 2015 09:27 PM #4

@Lulufulu from last year, Christian garrett

Sep 20, 2015 09:56 PM #5

@wrwlumpy

So: I am wearing a jock under my Royal Robbin travel pants today in honor of it!!!!!

Sep 20, 2015 10:24 PM #6

@jaybate-1.0 As @Crimsonorblue22 would say, "tmi".

Sep 20, 2015 10:30 PM #7

@brooksmd

Easy, brooksie, it was just a joke. I am keeping top secret what I am wearing. 😎

Sep 21, 2015 04:16 AM #10

Let's hope they had a good day boot camp

Sep 21, 2015 12:09 PM #11

No Diallo; Selden out, with a "tweak," Greene at half mast.

Sep 21, 2015 01:03 PM #12

@REHawk

Diallo--Self not talking up an OAD this time of year means curtains.

Selden tweak = Selden has never really healed from his freshman injury.

Greene = medical red

Stock Summary:

Hunter up

Devonte and LaGerrie up

Team down

Sep 21, 2015 03:17 PM #13

@ParisHawk translation service: SelfSpeak to *Speak.

Of freshman forward Diallo’s situation, Self said:β€œI’m not going to comment on it again. He’s being held out until his situation is resolved.”

"I'm sick and g - d tired of saying nice things about those NCAA b s . They couldn't get their heads out of their a s in time for Cheick to barf - I mean bond - with his teammates. I'm waiting..."

Sep 21, 2015 05:43 PM #14

@jaybate-1.0 If your thesis holds true, young Svi must age quickly, grab the brass ring. Speaking of brass, without Diallo and with a seasonlong hobbled Selden, no gold or silver appears in the forecast. I've already written Greene's contribution as a huge MAYBE for this season.

Sep 21, 2015 06:09 PM #15

@REHawk

Yes, a great deal rests on Svi's broad shoulders, and unfortunately long neck. :-)

You know how I am about long necks, coach. They mean low shoulders and playing not as tall as your height (with or without KU inches) suggests.

Let us :pray:

Sep 21, 2015 06:11 PM #16

@ParisHawk

Would that you were working as a translator at the UN. :+1:

Sep 21, 2015 06:31 PM #17

@Crimsonorblue22

Damn, Tyler Self is starting to look like an college age basketball player. Holy cow, what if Bill's genes are kicking in late!!!!! No, probably not. But Allie Maguire looked like a geek for the several years before fleshing out and being able to legitimately contribute and allow Al Maguire to make the famous remark that went something like: in a tie, my son starts.

And look at the black knee lingerie on Brannen from the git-go!!!!! Uh-oh!

Svi looks scared, or tired, or both! But I like the bulge in the calve of his right leg. Muscles strengthened.

The guy behind Tyler looks like someone taking a break from a Mormon Mission with that beard.

Evan is too obscured to comment except to say he is standing pat with his hair style.

Perry remains the athletic stud with the baby hands!

Sep 21, 2015 07:01 PM #18

@REHawk

Speaking of short necks, I am suddenly doing a little hand wringing about Cheick Diallo.

He is listed at 6-9, which means he could be as short as 6-7.

Okay, so Self has routinely played 6-7 big men of late.

But in the picture on a story over at the old site, it shows Cheick with a fine, long neck.

Long necked players play at least an inch shorter than their heights.

How would this sound coming out of a public address announcers mouth: starting at center, for the University of Kansas Jayhawks: 6-6 Cheick Diallo!!!!!!!

And this is assuming Diallo gets "clearance" to play.

I am running out of finger nails on this one, coach.

Down to nail beds.

Sep 21, 2015 07:05 PM #19

@jaybate-1.0 He could be listed at 5'10...he plays like a footer. Im replaying the all star games in my head, he was everywhere those nights.

Sep 21, 2015 07:52 PM #20

@clevelandjayhawk

Yeeeee hawwww!! Glad to hear it. Now, if he can be cleared.

Sep 21, 2015 08:04 PM #21

@jaybate-1.0 Come on, none of this "long neck", "short legs", "crooked pecker" stuff. Ok, maybe not the last one, but still ...

Sep 21, 2015 08:14 PM #22

@HighEliteMajor

Don't tell me you have drunk the kool aide that body morphology doesn't matter.

Body morphology is crucial to how tall you play.

Just as a footer is still a footer at the end of the game.

A long necker is still shorter than his height at the end of a game.

Fast twitch muscles can only compensate for a long neck for 3/4s of a game and then old man effective height sets in.

Sep 21, 2015 08:15 PM #23

@HighEliteMajor

Regarding the effects of crooked pecker, well, I reckon I am not qualified to comment on that effect. :-)

Sep 21, 2015 08:17 PM #24

@HighEliteMajor

Svi with a normally proportioned neck would basically be a 6-5 inch wing with a lot of agility and good dribbling.

Sep 21, 2015 08:19 PM #25

@jaybate-1.0 You know I buy it. Ellis, Tharpe -- it is an important consideration. You sold me on this some time ago. I never look at long necked dudes the same way. Shorter than advertised on the court. And poor Tharpe .. has to peddle a bit harder.

Sep 21, 2015 08:20 PM #26

@jaybate-1.0 Notice I have several "supporters?" Sorry, couldn't pass up the opportunity. BTW, you being an advocate of grits, for breakfast this morning I had a nice bowl of yellow grits with two eggs over medium on top and a liberal dose of Crystal's hot sauce splattered over the top. Damn the cholesterol, full speed ahead.

Sep 21, 2015 08:27 PM #27

Anybody....Even though Diallo has not been cleared couldn't he still partake of boot camp? Or is he?

Sep 21, 2015 10:24 PM #28

@brooksmd

Way to go, Brooksie, grits, grits, they will do you good!!!!!

If you take to them, get on line and lose your mind and order the super expensive white grits from Anson Mills. They are absolutely outrageously priced. But they are ground from old strains of corn, and well, I mean their placebo effect is strong, even if they don't really taste better.

BUT THEY DO TASTE BETTER!!!!!

Sep 21, 2015 10:26 PM #29

@HighEliteMajor

OH, THANK GOD, HEM!!!!!

I didn't want to go all Rhinoceros and be the last sane mind in the world about this is issue. :-)

Eugene Ionesco.

He still da man.

Sep 21, 2015 11:24 PM #30

@jaybate-1.0 When I read Coach's quote about Diallo, I felt he could just be sick and tired of the questions. But also, it could mean we wont see Diallo on court. Its so up in the air right now. I still believe Diallo will get cleared. We have time. But, not much left.

I think the jury is still out on Selden's "tweak" He played awesome in the WUGs.

If DIallo gets cleared before our first game in November. Hunter starts at the 5.
If Diallo gets cleared tomorrow or even next week, Hunter starts at the 5 until Cheick is ready.
If Diallo doesn't get cleared any time soon, Hunter starts at the 5, and maybe, just maybe Diallo comes back one more year.

@LandenLucas33: Ay KU Parking, it's boot camp this week and I am trying to limit walking distances. Please understand and stop with these tickets. Thank you

Sep 22, 2015 12:47 AM #34

Svi up from 190 to 207lbs

Sep 22, 2015 07:37 AM #35

@brooksmd according to KU sports, they are holding him out. Even Cliff practiced.

Sep 22, 2015 10:42 AM #36

@Crimsonorblue22 Cliff practiced because he was declared eligible. His eligibility was questioned much later for non-academic reasons.

Sep 22, 2015 01:40 PM #37

@ParisHawk and he still practiced

Sep 22, 2015 01:44 PM #38

@Crimsonorblue22 Cliff was never ruled eneligible. He was "under investigation." Because he pled the fifth they never got any further. KU pulled him out at that point because if they didn't the investigation may go further and cause us more of a headache than just pulling him out.

Sep 22, 2015 02:17 PM #39

@Kcmatt7 I realize it was 2 different issues, but Cliff still practiced. Didn't b Mac and Mari have to sit out practice for a semester too?

Sep 22, 2015 02:31 PM #40

And Selby had times when he had to sit out practice -- that was more on par with Cliff as it was an impermissible benefits issue. That caused me to question him practicing last year. I recall when I looked into comparing that to Selby, Self had said at some point that the NCAA ok'd Selby practicing. I wonder if that was the case with Cliff, that the NCAA ok'd him practicing?

Did I say I was excited to see how Mick does this season? Interesting to see.

Sep 22, 2015 03:09 PM #41

@Crimsonorblue22 But boot camp isn't part of official practice is it? Late nite marks the official start of practice. So wouldn't boot camp be similar to playing in pick-up games for the guys? Not official but your butt better be there. I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

Sep 22, 2015 03:17 PM #42

@brooksmd

Any organized activity that involves the coaching staff is considered "official."

Sep 22, 2015 03:31 PM #43

@JayHawkFanToo Ok, but I was under the impression there could be no official practice until a certain date. That was why not many years ago at the stroke of midnight during Late Night the team played their first coached practice game. Just call me confused by old age. :older_man: :beer:

Sep 22, 2015 03:35 PM #44

@brooksmd Any time the coaching staff is involved, it's an official team activity guided by the NCAA rules. Cheick Diallo has not yet been ruled eligible by the NCAA and therefore cannot particpate in any NCAA sanctioned activities. Diallo was allowed to help out for the WUG in Lawrence because that was sanctioned by another body other than the NCAA.

Cliff was entirely a separate issue. He was NEVER deemed ineligible and Bill Self could've played him in games had he chosen to. Cliff was practicing because practicing wasn't rubbing it in the NCAA's face that they couldn't prove anything like playing him in games would have done.

Sep 22, 2015 04:39 PM #45

@brooksmd good question! Maybe 'cause coach is there and directing it?

Sep 22, 2015 07:24 PM #46

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/sep/21/svi-now-stronger-more-vocal-ku/ β†—

β€œI weigh 207. Last year I was 190,” Mykhailiuk said of an 17-pound increase in just one year on a college campus. β€œI’ve gotten more physical, more strong. I can go inside a little bit easier, get body contact, have more contact.”

Sep 22, 2015 07:31 PM #47

Another story about how Svi spent his summer.

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article36056688.html β†—

Sep 22, 2015 08:00 PM #48

Mason calls Mykhailiuk the kind of player who will put up β€œunlimited shots throughout the night.” KU players are welcome to use their practice facility, which sits adjacent to Allen Fieldhouse, late into the night. Mykhailiuk is the kind of player who will test the limits of that late-night policy.

Sep 23, 2015 02:35 PM #49

I just finished talking to Svi on FB! He is a pretty cool cat! He said he is 6 foot 8 inches in shoes... I didn't want to bother him to much or he might block me lol!

Sep 23, 2015 02:56 PM #50

@Statmachine

Cool. In all the recent photos I have seen, Svi seem to be the one player that is as tall as advertised.

Sep 23, 2015 03:15 PM #51

@JayHawkFanToo In all honesty I didn't think he would respond to my text. Diallo has responded to my texts too but I dare not ask about his eligibility?

Sep 23, 2015 03:35 PM #52

@Statmachine you're right don't ask.

Sep 23, 2015 04:50 PM #53

Frank and boot camp.

Sep 24, 2015 12:15 AM #54

@Statmachine Very cool that you got to converse with Svi and Diallo on social media!

Sep 24, 2015 12:26 AM #55

@Lulufulu I thought so too! Its mostly small talk. I don't want them to unfriend me on fb... They do post new pics and selfies from time to time that are not on any other social media.

Sep 24, 2015 07:40 PM #56

@Lulufulu Graham and Lucas added me on their FB accounts today! Graham is a good apple and very polite! He must have checked out my profile before he added me to his friends list because he IM me and thanked me for my service and all that I have done for our country! I exchanged IM's for a min or two and told him "Now that you guys have won a gold medal its time to go after that NCAA Championship!"

Sep 24, 2015 11:07 PM #57

@Statmachine Too Cool!

Sep 25, 2015 03:57 PM #59

My memory is about as reliable as a British sports car....

But didn't we have real military drill instructors run boot camp a few years ago? Or something with the military? And it helped our team concept, leadership and execution?

Would be nice to continue that situation....

Sep 25, 2015 04:14 PM #60

I see no Brannen Greene in that photo.

Svi does look more solid, as does Graham. Vick always looks taller than 6-5 in pictures. I don't know if its the angle or what, but he looks more like 6-6 or better.

Sep 25, 2015 04:40 PM #61

@justanotherfan I've seen him on campus a couple of times and I think he looks more like 6-3.5-6-4. Definitely not 6-5. But that's about as reliable as asking the cashier who just got robbed how tall the burglar was.

Sep 25, 2015 04:43 PM #62

@drgnslayr we had a military drill instructor in last year for boot camp. I like the idea, but maybe HCBS pulls a Calipari and pumps them up this year instead of breaking them down. We have a ton of upperclassmen that have been mentally broken down the last few years. It's now the time to build them up and get the most out of them.

Sep 25, 2015 04:46 PM #63

@drgnslayr I believe that was for a week last year because KU didn't have a leader and Self was trying to make a leader emerge, and the drill instructor said Graham was the one who was deemed the best leader but nobody was really a great leader.

@justanotherfan Greene and Diallo did not participate in boot camp. Diallo because of his eligibility, and Self had Greene on a different regimen for boot camp because of his hip so Greene wasn't a full participant this year.
