As far as I know, the NCAA is not done with UNC. UNC was notified of the major violations in June of this year ↗ and had 90 days to respond, so we are not even close to knowing what the penalties will be. I would guess that the case at UNC is so much more complicated and involved that I would not be surprised if UNC gets the Death penalty or something close to it. I will wait until the NCAA levies penalties on UNC before passing judgement.
Just imagine if SMU had committed the same crimes UNC did?
If you want an example of what kind of penalty UNC will face, just look back to the recent case with Syracuse. They got off easy and they had a lot more issues than SMU.
@JayHawkFanToo As much as I hate to say it, I hope UNC gets more than just a slap on the wrist. Penalties for serious infractions or rules violations shouldnt just be handed down arbitrarily. It should be set in stone what punishment each violation gets.

I will guess that the penalties for UNC will be substantial as they involve academic fraud which, if I understand correctly, are the more serious of the bunch. It is possible that the NCAA will wait until after the NCAA since UNC has a championship capable basketball team...although it could be taken away after the fact...hard to tell.
The academic fraud should be challenging their accreditation as an institution of higher learning.
It should be that serious, because it is that serious. It should challenge the qualifications of every graduate from UNC over the past decade or so.
I'm not saying that to bag on UNC. The reach is much broader than that and can bring question to almost all universities concerning their qualities and standards (and legitimacy).
The NCAA is a joke. Poor Larry, always getting the short end of the stick... somethings never change.
Different opinion -- Larry got what he deserved. Three college head coaching jobs, three probations. Batting 1.000, or .000, one or the other.
You are absolutely correct. KU fans have a soft spot for Coach Brown, but I believe it is time to take the blinders off and see the entire picture...and it is not pretty. The two year "show cause" penalty makes him pretty much unemployable anywhere else.
I am deeply disgruntled anytime a former or current KU hoops insider wallows in negative publicity. Whether Giddens, Giles, Larry Brown or the Morrii, misjudgments or criminal activity tend to curb my surging enthusiasms for the overall program. Brown is a guy who has stayed somewhat in the limelight of Kansas Basketball. Not only was (is) he a mentor to our current head coach, but this past summer he sent an SMU player to help Kansas win the WUG. Can't the man come to terms with his needs for firmer self control and a cleaner reputation? His malfeasance appears to be deeprooted and constant. Concurrently, he sullies those who respect and adhere to his more positive talents.
I believe I will keep an open mind awhile over what has happened to LB before forming an opinion. The Chancellor, a member of the Knight Committee, has not fired LB. And LB has appeared to leave open the prospect of a legal response. The plot may thicken.
While I am waiting to form my opinion on Brown, I respect the conviction expressed in yours. And I would recommend you find a copy of Indiana Professor Emeritus Murray Sperber's 1990 book: "College Sports, Inc." If I recall correctly, it portrays Larry Brown in an unflattering light, regarding recruiting ethics. It used Brown as an example of a guy who made "the motion play."
That said, it is also interesting that Sperber reputedly spent part of his retirement affiliated with a sports institute at UC Berkley that appeared to be one Harry Edwards started, or came to head up.
It is interesting IMHO, because Harry Edwards was significantly involved in bringing Cuonzo Martin from UTenn to Nike-UCBerkley and Martin somehow signed reputed adidas lean Jaylen Brown--a player adidas-KU reputedly pursued hard--for Nike-Berkley.
@jaybate-1.0 Martin "somehow" signed Jaylen Brown. Man, is that ever a curious SOMEHOW! And Cuonzo? I watched his progress at MO State. Also mighty curious, his trek from there to TN to the West Coast. The world of collegiate hoops must stay tuned to this theater.
