are we improving?
Oct 17, 2015 05:49 PM #1

that is the big question. I see some things, but very frustrating, the little things thatyou have JUST got to do if you want to get to the next step, costly penalities, not being able to come up with the big stop on 3rd down, dropped passes, I or we have to understand we are pretty young, 32 freshman, 10 red shirt freshman, and 16 sophomores and yes it takes time, going to take a lot of time, this team was sooooo depleted by the previous coaching staff I truly believe we are making some progress, just really frustrating when you don't have the tools, talent, I think we may have our quarterback we just need help ALOT OF HELP on the defensive side and offensive line just have to have patience, crawl before you walk right? ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer54

I'm in Denver following on my phone...it appears we've missed two field goals and one extra point?

Oct 17, 2015 06:35 PM #3

We are improving! Kicking $&@&$

@Crimsonorblue22

Are u at the game?

Oct 17, 2015 06:38 PM #5

@VailHawk no, but watching! Willis looks really good for a kid that looks 15

Oct 17, 2015 06:39 PM #6

@VailHawk looks like D is getting tired!

Oct 17, 2015 06:42 PM #7

Don't need to lose goodman, that's for sure.

Oct 17, 2015 06:47 PM #8

@VailHawk D actually held them to 3.

Oct 17, 2015 06:48 PM #9

@DanR are you there?

Oct 17, 2015 06:58 PM #10

Nice play on 4 th for the td. Willis is not afraid to throw the ball , and hits the receivers in the hands darn near every time

Oct 17, 2015 07:04 PM #11

Not at the game. Inlaws from missouri visiting us in lawrence. Almost talked my mizzou fan bro in law to go, lol

Oct 17, 2015 07:09 PM #12

Wow! 3 td's! KU is playing hard!

Oct 17, 2015 08:33 PM #15

KU missed 3 FG's (one of them was a 51 yarder though so not a gimme) and an PAT. With the kicks KU should've made, KU possibly wins this game 27-23 and Willis doesn't throw that pick 6 because KU is running the ball at that point.

I'd also hesitate on how much progress actually occurred today and wait for next week. Teams playing really flat because of a dead atmoshphere is fairly common. TCU last year, Oklahoma in 2013, Texas and TCU in 2o12, Baylor in 2011. KU got blown out the following week following all of those games. If KU puts up a good performance in Stillwater next week, then we could say there's progress being made. Right now though, this is just another case of a team playing flat in the dead atmoshphere of Memorial Stadium.

Oct 17, 2015 08:35 PM #16

@Texas-Hawk-10 so every team that has beat us at home the last 3 years has played flat?

Oct 17, 2015 08:41 PM #17

Th team played well today and had a good chance to win the game, down by 3, with the ball and about 5 minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately our young and inexperienced QB made 3 mistakes in a row the last one resulting in an interception that sealed the game.

Al things considered, not a bad outing for KU.

Oct 17, 2015 08:50 PM #18

@Crimsonorblue22 I didn't say that did I? I called out the specific games where that happened and the following week, KU got theor asses kicked because it wasn't really progress. Last year, TCU came in and olayed like crap, the next week KU let Perine set the single game rushing record on them. Not exactly backing up the TCU performance is it? KU followed up that OU game in 2013 by losing at home 59-14 to Baylor. KU lost to No. Illinois after the TCU game, and 41-14 to Baylor after Texas in 2012. They lost 61-7 to Texas A&M after taking RG3 to OT in 2011.

I never said everything team that came into Memorial played flat and with no energy because there's certainly enough evidence against that. But it does happen once or twice a season where a vastly superior team plays way below their norm in Memorial Stadium (usually an 11am kick) because there's just no energy in the stadium. On the surface, today appears to fit that mold. If KU follows up today with another decent game next week though, then there's a case to be made that progress was legitimately made today. We'll see what happens next week though.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I was meaning to say it's always a flat atmosphere at mem stadium. Always. I thought the crowd there today was decent.

Oct 17, 2015 09:09 PM #20

@Crimsonorblue22 The atmosphere doesn't always impact teams though because some teams handle it much better than others.

It's like KU basketball. They've been known to play like crap in Lubbock on occassion which is typically a pretty dead atmoshphere, but they've also had games there where they just steamroll Tech like they're supposed to.

Oct 17, 2015 09:11 PM #21

@Texas-Hawk-10 well ok. So not all teams play flat when it's dead? Just some? Do we lose cause it's dead? Could that be our reason why we r bad? Jk hard for me to see a good team almost lose to our KU fb team cause of a dead atmosphere. On a positive note, dead or no dead atmosphere, I like Willis at QB! He did pretty good for a 2nd start in a dead atmosphere. The dead atmosphere did really bother our kickers. Do u think Beaty goes for more 4 and short if the atmosphere was better? I'll quit now. Go royals, great atmosphere there!!πŸ’™βšΎοΈ

@Crimsonorblue22 SERIOUSLY? 15?

You're aging him at least 3 extra years.

@Crimsonorblue22 Caption: "OK - juice and graham crackers and a 5 minute nap, right after the next timeout".

Lol - I was very, very impressed with the baby-faced QB. The whole team, actually. Well, besides the field goal kicker. I hate to single out individuals, but that game would have had a much different outcome with even an average FG kicker. I looked at the stats this morning and I think if you didn't know who won already - well, you wouldn't have known who won. The stats were as close to identical as they could reasonably be.

At KU we don't have moral victories in football.

We have edifying shortfalls in the score.
