Fools Gold Redux

So I was driving down the road...minding my own business....looking up at fresh snow on Beaver Creek....listening to Dan Patrick....when all of a sudden DP utters the phrase FOOLS GOLD!!!

He was actually talking about the Seahawks but nevertheless it brought back a bad memory for @VailHawk (I like speaking in 3rd person ala Bo Jackson.)

Questions for 2015-16-

"Will HCBS let them play 'outside-in' and shoot the 3 at will all season long?"

"Will HCBS let them shoot 3's for half the season and then pull the plug?"

"Will HCBS make them play 'inside-out' from Day 1?"

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

I know for a fact that Graham/3 small guards have been practicing this play with Cheick

@Statmachine can't wait to see that against ISU!

@Statmachine

Maybe that means they are expecting him to clear?

Also, it suggests Self is going to try to steal more baskets.

Welcome to Cherry Picking time, Cheick!

@Statmachine Hope they do a better job of inbounding the ball. Or can your feet straddle the base line when you inbound in the league?

@brooksmd you have a good 👀

@VailHawk

I wonder how the added enforcement of touch fouls this year will impact Self and the style of play we play.

He seems to be already conditioning the fan base that this will be a year full of constant fouls. So does that mean we don't bomb 3s and instead focus on post scoring and drives in order to draw fouls?

My hope is that he goes at this year with an open mind. Think just a bit more like a NBA coach and coach to win by being opportunistic more than a philosopher of the game, trying to teach young students his theories. I know that sounds a bit harsh, but I see pretty much all of D1 coaches doing this.

@drgnslayr

Touch fouls?

Oooooh, imagine how many 2 PTAs and a FT that Bad Ball will produce!!!!

Bad Ball will guaranty a short 3 every possession if they call touch fouls.

That explains the three guard offense in Korea right there.

The game will now default to the five most active drivers that are also the five best FT shooters.

This could mean Bragg plays a ton this season, if he can put it on the deck from high post and make > 70% of his FTAs.

Imagine Perry at 4 and Bragg at 5 driving every time they touch the ball high or spinning low!!!

How about Mick?? Is he good from the stripe???

KU could go undefeated turning every game into a FT shooting contest with a starting 5 of good driving FT SHOOTERS, plus two more rotating--one inside and one on the wing!!!!

@jaybate-1.0

Actually... this all points to us playing small ball. X-axis... guys moving their feet and getting into position instead of just counting on crazy athleticism, insane arm reaches, and super hops to make up for not playing good, fundamental basketball and the realization that the game is mostly decided by footwork. Ask NBA Champion Steph Curry. He is the poster child for footwork.

@drgnslayr

I'm in favor of Devonte turning into the next Steph Curry!!!

Oct 25, 2015 09:56 PM #14

@VailHawk

YESSSSS!

Actually, a good place to see which kids have the most potential for footwork is at Late Night. All the guys get out there and dance. I know it is also about rhythm... but you can see which guys have more going on with their feet.

No surprise that most of the boxing greats made it because of their footwork. Basketball... football... tennis...

@drgnslayr nooooo ! Guys hate it, most of them. Wiggs and Embiid weren't good. Case closed😉

Oct 26, 2015 03:15 AM #16

@Crimsonorblue22

Neither of those guys can hold a candle to a Steph Curry when it comes to footwork. But I heard Devonte is a pretty good dancer... so their is hope!

Oct 26, 2015 03:16 AM #17

@drgnslayr Devonte is a good dancer.

Thank you! It's confirmed! :-)
