Excited? I know I am!!!

Bedore: Self says three-guard lineup likely to start ↗

Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self, who has tinkered with all sorts of combinations since the start of practice on Oct. 2, said the three-guard lineup of Frank Mason III, Devonté Graham and Wayne Selden Jr. will likely start Wednesday’s 7 p.m. home exhibition game against Pittsburg State.

Dodd: Cheick Diallo not expected to play in KU’s exhibition opener Wednesday ↗

It appears the NCAA’s ruling on the eligibility of Kansas freshman Cheick Diallo could come down to a buzzer-beater.

Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self said Monday that he was hoping for a “definitive” answer on Diallo’s status before the Jayhawks’ regular season opener against Northern Colorado on Nov. 13 at Allen Fieldhouse.

I have heard that we will see a lot of Svi and that his shots are falling and that he worked on/ improved his handles more than anything this summer.

Nov 03, 2015 04:15 PM #3

@Statmachine In the press conference, Self confirmed your point on the shooting -- but he shook his head and referenced "carelessness'" with the ball when discussing Svi. That's not surprising. The dude can pass, and I'm guessing with new confidence in the system, he could be trying to thread the needle perhaps too many times (based on Self's intolerance for turnovers).

From the returning crew, Svi is the best total talent package.

Nov 03, 2015 04:21 PM #4

@HighEliteMajor I cant imagine that Vick or Greene are any better as far as turnovers go? But as other posters have pointed out I haven't sat through practices or sat in on team meetings or spoke with the coaching staff? So I really don't know anything?

Nov 03, 2015 04:30 PM #5

@Statmachine Nah, you know something. I just think it's Self making sure to point out that a kid isn't perfect, that's all -- normal, humbling, Self. What a coach needs to say for all ears, including Svi's. Svi was a pretty good ball handler last season too .. I bet your info is right on point.

Nov 03, 2015 04:39 PM #6

If Svi's shooting has improved that's a great sign. It looks like he will be the first guard off the bench so we will need his offense. Hopefully he gets enough minutes (above 15 a game) so that he gets into an offensive rhythm. If the 2nd unit includes Svi, Greene, Bragg, we will come at opponents in waves that they cannot plan against.

Nov 03, 2015 04:41 PM #7

I think I read somewhere that Svi is ranked as the number 2 shooting guard in the next upcoming NBA draft. I guess NBA scouts have been attending KU practices.

It would appear to me that Svi could be the little secret everybody is over looking.

Nov 03, 2015 05:19 PM #8

@DoubleDD

ESPN has him #2 for SG prospects.

Nov 03, 2015 06:16 PM #9

@DoubleDD Svi has been a projected mid 1st round pick in 2017 since before last year and has been KU's best NBA prospect since he got to KU.

Nov 03, 2015 07:05 PM #10

I was surprised and a little overwhelmed by what I saw from in our first few games last season -- giddy I think it was. Real deal, I think it is. If he is "that good", we'll be "real good.' Like, the best team in the country. Like two or three losses good. We'll see .. but getting to be "that good" might be a season away. He's got the total package.

Nov 03, 2015 07:51 PM #11

@HighEliteMajor He said NBA scouts have been coming to their practices and that he had just read that he was projected as the #2 shooting guard but he didn't know what criteria they used to project him as the #2 shooting guard in the country? He said he appreciates my encouragement and support bud. He called me his bud lol. Classy guy though.

Nov 03, 2015 09:30 PM #12

@HighEliteMajor

"In the press conference, Self confirmed your point on the shooting – but he shook his head and referenced “carelessness’” with the ball when discussing Svi. That’s not surprising. The dude can pass, and I’m guessing with new confidence in the system, he could be trying to thread the needle perhaps too many times (based on Self’s intolerance for turnovers)."

My reading of the tea leaves is that Svi passes "too well" and he needs to "dumb down" his passes because his teammates aren't at his level of court awareness. So he is making great, hard passes that his teammates can't handle.

This is a very common problem with players that see more than their teammates. They often throw great passes that are dropped or totally missed because the player on the receiving end wasn't ready or paying enough attention to make the catch.

If this is the case, the answer is to go ahead and keep Svi throwing the tough passes and get his teammates to up their levels to his, not drop his to their level. Playing with a guy that has great passing skills should improve all his teammates' ability to see the court and anticipate better.

Nov 03, 2015 09:59 PM #13

@drgnslayr That is a great point in many walks of life: don't dumb down people, help them smart up the others.

Nov 03, 2015 10:12 PM #14

@drgnslayr I don't think it's Svi passing "too well" for his teammates. I think as his other skills are developing, he's thinking his passing ability has progressed more than it actually has and he's being careless in regards to trying to make plays that aren't the smart plays because he's trying to show off.

As @HighEliteMajor said, last year, we saw the foundation that Svi is building off of and it is a very good foundation. He just needs time to build his frame (he's a a good path there) and develop those skills (sounds like that's happening as well). Svi may be the guy that makes people pull their hair out this year because he'll probably be the guy capable of being the best player on the floor for both teams at the same time much like junior year Tyshawn was at times.

Nov 03, 2015 11:02 PM #15

@dylans I think we are gonna get Diallo cleared. Even if it isnt by the start of the season.

New dribblin' ball for the 5 year old. :) Call the KUStore in Lawrence if you want one. 1-785-864-1119 No Wiggins, so no sell out threat until they win it all...

Nov 04, 2015 02:49 PM #17

I can't believe that the pre-season starts tonight!! I need to remind my wife that starting at 7 pm tonight KU basketball gets priority over all other things on TV for the next 6 months.

Nov 04, 2015 02:53 PM #18

@joeloveshawks Has she stocked up a nice supply of TV dinners for you?

Nov 04, 2015 03:06 PM #19

@Texas-Hawk-10

I'm dreaming that Svi will be more like Tyshawn in his senior year! ;)

Imagine the possibilities with this team if Svi becomes a huge contributor? And if we "legalize" Cheick? Everyone gets healthy...

Nov 04, 2015 03:07 PM #20

@dylans

Wow! How much for the ball? I need to put it on my Christmas list. I better start bribing Santa now...

@joeloveshawks

You need to work out a legally-binding contract with your wife about remote control control. Have it signed and notarized and have an extra copy held with your attorney. Nothing too fancy or elaborate... perhaps the length of the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt.

Nov 04, 2015 03:08 PM #21

@drgnslayr said:

And if we "legalize" Cheick?

Should have potitioned for this to be on the ballot yesterday and let the people vote on it.

Nov 04, 2015 03:12 PM #22

@JRyman

I vote "legalize"... on Cheick, too!

Nov 04, 2015 06:49 PM #23

Crap I canceled time warner this week and now I can't watch the game!

Nov 04, 2015 06:59 PM #24

@joeloveshawks You get it on TV?

Nov 04, 2015 07:01 PM #25

Nov 04, 2015 10:44 PM #26

Nov 04, 2015 10:57 PM #27

@Crimsonorblue22 You're not supposed to up vote that lol!!! I am mad as hell about it!

Nov 04, 2015 11:02 PM #28

Nov 04, 2015 11:39 PM #31

@Statmachine Do what I did these last two years. Go to a bar, buy a nacho platter and nurse a beer for as long as you can. Buffalo wild wing carries Time Warner everywhere.

Nov 04, 2015 11:45 PM #32

@Eric it's @JayHawkFanToo 's best friend, our KU ad.

Nov 05, 2015 12:39 AM #33

@wrwlumpy I am at work and going to watch it on espn3 hopefully?

Nov 05, 2015 12:40 AM #34

Having a dos equis! Hope I don't get ran out of here!

Nov 05, 2015 12:42 AM #35

Really professional right?

Nov 05, 2015 12:43 AM #36

@wrwlumpy I'll have to consider that. The bars got enough money from me the past few weeks so might just listen to 610.

Nov 05, 2015 12:45 AM #37

@Eric can you link it? I don't know 610?

Nov 05, 2015 12:47 AM #38

@wrwlumpy Until a month ago, I hadn't been to a Buffalo Wild Wings in almost 20 years. (Back in the late 90's in NE Ohio they were called BW3 and it was cheap food and crappy beer.) They opened a new location in Lawrence at 27th and Iowa where the plum tree Chinese place used to be. Checked it out with my wife during a Monday night football game.

2 craft beers, a chicken wrap, small wings and chili queso + tip set us back $55. Insult to injury, I forgot the leftover wings.

Good place to watch sports though, I'll admit that.

Nov 05, 2015 12:53 AM #39

@DanR oh man I do that a lot, forget leftovers!

Nov 05, 2015 12:56 AM #40

You all r welcome to come to hutch, it's really nice to see the the pre and post game interviews. Aaron miles doesn't sound positively like he will go back to playing. Mental thing and getting back in bb shape this summer.

Nov 05, 2015 12:57 AM #41

@Crimsonorblue22 Sure I will be there in 8 hrs

Nov 05, 2015 01:01 AM #42

@Statmachine 610 is a local radio channel and I think the only one that broadcasts Jayhawks games.
You said you have access to ESPN3?

Nov 05, 2015 01:03 AM #43

Can't believe it's already Jayhawks season. Thanks Royals for making the summer fly by!

Nov 05, 2015 01:14 AM #44

@drgnslayr About $180 with shipping and tax.
