Vick

Anybody know what's wrong w/him? He looked ok on the bench. Just seems weird.

@Crimsonorblue22 Self said awhile back it was some kind of illness, but nobody has said what it was though.

Dec 24, 2015 10:23 AM #3

@Texas-Hawk-10 Mononucleosis?

Dec 24, 2015 01:33 PM #4

Man, I hope he gets well soon. Mason and Graham appear to be playing too many risky minutes.

Dec 24, 2015 02:24 PM #5

@ParisHawk Pine Wilt ?

Dec 24, 2015 03:24 PM #6

@nuleafjhawk Hope not. I like Vick's potiental. I'd hate to see him transfer.

Dec 24, 2015 04:09 PM #7

@dylans they would have to take him to game in order to fly him home for Christmas. Maybe? He looked good to me.

Dec 24, 2015 05:55 PM #8

@Crimsonorblue22 it's cool that they can do that (fly them home after an away game b4 break). I was referring to @nuleafjhawk 's Pine Wilt comment. I really like Vick's potential, I want to see him play as a Jr./Sr.! I hope he can get through the dissapointment of not playing much his freshman year. Player development, as hard as it is to watch and wait for it to happen, is much harder on the kids than us fans...

I have seen nothing to lead me to believe he's transferring, it's just a fear of mine.

@dylans

Vick was not originally a target recruit and he was more of stocking stuffer as it were. I am sure he knows he is not a OAD or even TAD, so hopefully he has the patience to learn from two outstanding players and take over in his junior year.

Dec 24, 2015 06:04 PM #10

@dylans I was questioning myself.

Dec 24, 2015 06:12 PM #11

@JayHawkFanToo I just think most kids these days are into instant gratification. So regardless of the expectations we have, a transfer risk is always a possibility. Come to think about it, we fans are into instant gratification as well, we don't want to wait until next season to see what a more polished Diallo can do, we want him to play now!

I miss the days of a Cole Aldrich, or a Markief Morris sitting in the wings developing and getting on the court when ready instead of being thrust out on day one and making the whole team look watered down and simplified to accommodate a player who doesn't know the system. Inexperienced players cost you fouls on your other players as the others try to compensate on D. They cost you points on offense as the ball will stick, and off ball movement will usually be slightly out of sync. It's a development process and I can't wait to see the finished product. I hope all the freshman are able to contribute at a Sophomore level by years end, otherwise they will languish on the bench as the rest of the team spanks the field in March!

@Crimsonorblue22

When slender first year players get sick this time of season, my go-to hypothesis is adverse reaction to weight-gain dietary supplements. It has never been proven that that has caused anything, but the really weird shades Jeff Withey and Brannen Greene turned coupled with no formal explanation of what was the problem, has made me suspicious.

I hope that this illness situation is nothing like Peters injury.

Dec 28, 2015 12:28 PM #14

@AsadZ

Good add. Head trauma is another category to consider, when skin shade does not change significantly.

Still other injuries unspecified for a time in the past lacking skin shade change include: knees, stress fractures, and bone spurs.

Mononucleosis also appears to go largely unreported, but the players get pale and lose weight.

Avoidance of specification seems to occur, when there is uncertainty whether the player will return to play through, or end his season.

At least Self has not yet said Vick is "nicked up;" that sometimes seems to imply disagreement over returning; I.e., Self thinking a player should "play through," while player and family think not.

One final unlikely possibility could be NCAA troubles. Vick was reputedly an LB guy initially that came to KU shortly before the feces got fanned in Dallas.

Oh, well, wait and see time.

Dec 29, 2015 03:04 AM #17

I was wondering about mono. Strange though. He did come back though!

Dec 29, 2015 05:51 AM #18

@jaybate-1.0 Well said Sir.

Dec 29, 2015 03:06 PM #19

@RockChalkinTexas So now you have a new man that you want to rub Vicks on.

Dec 29, 2015 04:06 PM #20

@wrwlumpy ha ha! Good one!

Dec 29, 2015 05:33 PM #21

@wrwlumpy Jealous?

Dec 30, 2015 06:10 AM #22

Vick sighting and for 3!

I was thinking of Vick last night, at the first half moment when 4 of our guys were miserably outrun by a UCI guard who raced downcourt for a layup. Told the wife, "I bet that Vick could have stayed with that kid!" Heartening to see LaGerald get a brief opportunity to show his stuff in the second half. Here's hoping that he springs back to fine fettle.
