KANSAS ATHLETICS TO IMPLEMENT CLEAR-BAG POLICY FOR ENTRY INTO ATHLETICS EVENTS
To provide a safe environment for the public and significantly expedite fan entry into Memorial Stadium and all of our athletics venues, Kansas Athletics will implement a clear-bag policy this year that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into sporting events.

Kansas Athletics strongly encourages fans to not bring any type of bag to KU sporting events. To expedite entry there will be express lanes designated for fans without bags.

Beginning with the fall sports in 2017, the following style and size bag, package, or container will be allowed in the gates at Kansas Athletics events:
Bags that are clear, plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
One gallon clear plastic freezer bag (like a Ziploc)
Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without handle or strap, may be taken into the venue (can’t be larger than 5.5" x 8.5").
An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection by a supervisor at the gate.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
Purses larger than a clutch bag
Coolers
Briefcases
Backpacks
Fanny packs
Cinch bags
Seatbacks / cushions
Luggage of any kind
Computer bags and camera bags
Any bag larger than the required size

I hate to see seat pads/ seat backs on the list. It's hard enough to get people in the stands.

Unfortunately, with the allowance of conceal carry on campus, anything that could contain a weapon has to be banned now.

@justanotherfan There were guns in Lawrence before the conceal carry law. Seems like an over-reaction.

Besides if I wanted to kill someone at a football stadium I wouldn't bring a gun. A chemical agent dispersed by a drone would be far more effective and make it difficult to pin down a motive.

I was referring more to the requirements to ban the weapons. In order to make a facility gun free, you have to have special enforcement rules and security measures (required by the law that expanded the conceal carry). So in order to make games gun free zones, KU (and other sports venues and other places) has to add security for sporting events and make special new rules like the bag rule.

Best seats are definitely at home on your own couch. Has a nice free seat back and access to cold beer. On the down side you have to work a little harder to get felt up.

Just because you aren't allowed doesn't mean it isn't easy to get one in. They make plastic guns and bullets made of copper, brass and lead don't set off metal detectors... Personally, I'd much rather a gun be allowed in games than not. After what happened in France and at other public places, seems like the only real way to protect yourself.

First of all, I'd much rather no guns other than bolt action hunting rifles and single-barrel shotguns be allowed in the U.S. I'd even allow handguns, provided they are 100% metal and have to be loaded the old school revolver style.

I get people want them to protect their own house and be able to hunt. And I think we could accomplish that, providing we don't allow any weapons that could mow down a crowd.

Europe and Asia have much stricter gun laws and their murder rates reflect that.

But as long as semi-automatic weapons are legal, I'd rather everyone be carrying than one evil person be carrying.
