Twins vs Royals
Jul 01, 2017 02:19 PM #1

They just don't get much better than last nites game. Total team offensive effort that took advantage of a little miscue on the part of the Twins. Had to laugh after that error in the 4th put Boni at 3rd and Cain on 1st trailing 1-0 with Hoz up. Talking head said need to get anything past the infield to get that run home and first pitch Hoz parks it in lf stands.

Today however is another day with a day-nite doubleheader. Remember back in the day they played day doubleheaders every Sunday with just enough time between games to let ground crews freshen the infield. But back then they almost played 2 in the time it takes to play 1 today.

"It's a great day for a ballgame.....lets play two." Ernie Banks

Well I was wrong. Another come from behind win over the Twins that saw everybody get at least one hit (all but 3 had a multi-hit game) and the bottom 3 guys in the order (Moss [1], Esky [3] and Gordon [3]) got 7 of the 11 rbi's. HR's from Esky, Gordo, Moss and Moose. And with the performance of recently called up Torres at 2nd who went 3-4 with the bat, Ned has a dilemma. In fact Whit was moved from 2nd to RF. Torres appears to be a contact hitter which is a definite plus. Oh well, let's see what happens tonite.

Interesting lineup for tonite's game. Whit back at 2nd leading off, followed by Boni in RF, Cain in CF, Hoz at 1st, Moose at 3rd, Soler in LF, Moss DH, Esky at SS and Butera catching. Hammel on the hill.

@brooksmd Thanks for the game comments. They add a flavor to the box scores!

Jul 02, 2017 12:28 AM #5

@brooksmd Don't look now but KC has sneaked back into a tie for 2nd with theTwinkies. Indians now down 1-0 to Detroit in the 3rd. This is getting more interesting every day now. They may evolve from sellers to buyers in a week or 2.
Rock Chalk Royals! Go KC!!

Jul 02, 2017 12:31 AM #6

@mayjay ah gosh golly gee

Jul 02, 2017 12:34 AM #7

@globaljaybird It still boggles my mind that LoCain isn't in the top 15 vote getters for outfielders. Next to maybe Trout, he has to be the best CF'er in the AL.

Jul 02, 2017 02:33 AM #8

Well this don't appear to be the same team that played earlier today. Top of the 6th with 1 out it's Twins 6-2

Jul 02, 2017 02:35 AM #9

Ned you're a little late with the hook on Hammel.

Jul 02, 2017 03:15 AM #10

@brooksmd 9 more outs to score 2 more runs at home - I like our chances.

Jul 02, 2017 03:16 AM #11

My Nats' historically bad bullpen choked up another loss. Down 1-0, first pitch by Sammy Solis in the 9th to a guy on his MLB debut.. Dinger. Then our amazing offense, predictably, scores one in the bottom, down 2-1, bases loaded with 2 outs, Dusty decides it's our turn to have a guy on his MLB debut step up to the plate (?!?) And the kid works to a full count, then gets a pitch outside, but Yadier Molina stands up and pumps his fist before the ump makes the call and the ump calls it Strike 3! What a crock!

Jul 02, 2017 03:53 AM #12

@globaljaybird Herrera not the same

Jul 02, 2017 03:56 AM #13

Once again a leadoff walk starts the mess. Like I used to tell my boys they had to be home by midnight cause nothing good ever happens after midnight. Well nothing good ever happens when you walk the leadoff hitter in the last inning.

Jul 02, 2017 03:58 AM #14

Good thing these guys don't have to play a day time DH every Sunday like real ball players used to.

Jul 02, 2017 03:59 AM #15

GN guys- Well, don't look so good here in the 9th so better check in for da night to make church in the am. Keeping priorities is important. Worst we do is split for the day so I'm good wit that. If we dont' connect, I hope you all have a very wonderful & joyous holiday weekend & days ahead.. Don't know about anyone else but I'm DAMN PROUD to be an American regardless of what the rest of the world thinks. Fly Old Glory high & proud if ya can every chance you have. It's important for our nations future. God Bless !!

Jul 02, 2017 04:00 AM #16

@globaljaybird How's those chances now with 3 outs to go, trailing by 5 and Moss, Esky and Butera due up?

Jul 02, 2017 04:00 AM #17

@brooksmd In a word - slim.

Geez, Sano has 23 rbi's against the Royals just this year. That's almost half of his total of 55. Maybe walking him back in the 5th with 2 on would've been a better idea vs letting him park one in deep LC. I mean Cain took 2 steps, stopped and watched it.

Jul 02, 2017 04:11 AM #20

@Crimsonorblue22 Not at all. Like he was in 2012 & 13. -- gopher ball itis. I think Moore will look hard at moving him while the market is still good in the next couple of weeks. Could be a mistake, but this is still most likely a rebuild process instead of a last hurrah. Would like to be wrong, but just my gut instinct.

Jul 02, 2017 04:13 AM #21

Well boys and girl, see ya all tmrw, 1:15 when the boys put another series win in the books. ttfn

Jul 02, 2017 06:20 PM #22

Its 1:15 & top of the 1st at Kauffman. Sure do hope Woods can hold em respectable today. Cleveland already up 4-0 on Detroit.

Jul 02, 2017 06:36 PM #23

@globaljaybird Love the 4th uni's. Especially the stockings on those wearing pants as they should be worn. Call me old school.

Jul 02, 2017 06:41 PM #24

@brooksmd I mean old school, I like them too!

Jul 02, 2017 06:45 PM #25

@Crimsonorblue22 @brooksmd How bout that Soler punch out at 3rd? 😷 I'll take it.

Jul 02, 2017 06:46 PM #26

@globaljaybird I wasn't sure about him in left😳

Jul 02, 2017 06:58 PM #27

@globaljaybird Ned really shook up order today. Whit (2nd), Boni (RF), Hoz (dh), Salvy (c), Soler (lf), Torres (3rd), Moss (1st), Esky (ss) and Gordo (cf).

Jul 02, 2017 07:15 PM #28

Keep'in da line movin'. Just gotta love Whit hustle and Hoz beating the shift.

Jul 02, 2017 07:15 PM #29

3-0 is a great πŸ‘ start but gotta have more vs these guys. Sano & Dozier can wear us out.

Jul 02, 2017 07:19 PM #30

Here's a thought. Don't give Sano any good pitches.

Jul 02, 2017 07:29 PM #31

@brooksmd Sparky Anderson used to walk George Brett every time he came up with runners on-especially when his Tigers had a lead. He refused to let Brett beat him after he did it so many occasions. Your comment abt walking Sano reminded me of ol' Sparky. That man was REALLY old school.

Jul 02, 2017 07:33 PM #32

@brooksmd Moms baking cookies for son & wife on the way from KC & Rascal just took the batter bowl outta the open dishwasher & trotted in front of the Royals game-he likes baseball too...

Jul 02, 2017 07:35 PM #33

Good ol Rascal. Bet he was right proud of himself.

Jul 02, 2017 07:40 PM #34

Dang, the past few games, except last nite, are shades of '14 an '15. Love it when just making contact and not tryin to kill everything.

Jul 02, 2017 07:41 PM #35

Hoz needs to plate 2.

Jul 02, 2017 07:41 PM #36

CHICKEN!!!

Jul 02, 2017 07:47 PM #37

@brooksmd Hope Ned doesn't let Woods flirt with that 5-0 lead now. We gotta knock these guys outta the way for 2nd & keep the heat on them Wahoos. Maybe time for da hook !

Jul 02, 2017 09:13 PM #38

Alright Tabasco, wrap this up 3 up and down.

Jul 03, 2017 02:50 PM #39

Big weekend for our boys. Puts us only a half game out of the wildcard. 23 games until the trade deadline and a TOUGH 23 game stretch at that. Red Sox and Dodgers both away.

To be honest, it has been fun. But if we don't keep the division within 5 games and the wildcard within 3, it will be time to sell off pitching. Vargas will be too much of a haul to pass up. Minor is as good as gone.

On the bright side, we would have Karns and Duffy back so we wouldn't be completely giving up. But you can't let the deadline go by without taking Vargas offers. He could be worth 3 very good prospects.

Jul 03, 2017 03:02 PM #40

Daytons biggest mistake as a GM was letting Ervin Santana walk. We keep him and we probably don't trade for Cueto. So we still have Finny for our 5th starter. So we also still have Dyson. We wouldn't have signed Ian Kennedy either, so we would have been able to afford Zobrist probably. I think we wouldn't have signed Moss so we would have another $12m to play with.

Starting rotation would be:
- Duffy
- Vargy
- Santana
- Hammel
- Finny

Hard to believe we let him walk for so cheap.
