Would love to land Emmitt Williams, he's one of the top 5 players in the class in my opinion.
If he was 6'9-6'10 with his elite athletic ability, character and versatility he would probably be in the top 3 and pushing for #1. But he's 6'7 and is going to be a bit undersized going forward so he's probably ranked where he should be.
He more than makes up for his size by being an explosive leaper and he plays with a great motor and mentality to the game. He reminds me of a cross between Jordan Bell and Robert Williams (Soph at Texas A&M that turned down the draft this yr). He has nice touch and can shoot the 3 rather well as he's shown all spring.
As far as his recruitment goes a few things stand out. He's got a handler, he's a Nike kid, and he probably will be a spring signee.
What does that mean for KU? A lot. The handler that is involved with Williams was also involved with Duval going to Duke. And now Duke is recruiting Williams and was front and center for his game (while also there for Bagley). Duke insiders seem fairly confident that if they press for Williams they could get him. They might look to him after missing on Cole Swider and if Zion Williamson doesn't commit to Duke. With Carter likely being a OAD Duke will have a starting spot for him, something KU doesn't have.
Which brings me back to KU's situation in the post. Right now KU has Preston and Lightfoot at the 4. Lawson in the waiting (although he can also play the 5 with his length) if KU wanted to play smaller. Even if Preston leaves Williams is competing with a possible All-American and developing talent in Lightfoot for a starting spot. I think its unrealistic to expect Williams is going to come to KU with players standing in his way.
I love how Matt Scott puts in CB's but then never explains the information he might have received about the player. Meanwhile the Duke board lets out every piece of information they get to their paying fans.
We'll see how this plays out, if he waits until the Spring maybe KU gets lucky. He's going to be an awesome talent for whatever school lands him
