Not sure if this is what you meant, but this article sums it up beautifully. This rivalry is needed to revitalize. http://kuhoops.com/ku-basketball-news/180343846/ ↗

@wissox That is the same article cited by @HighEliteMajor in his "checkmate" article. I like Vahe's writing. No Posnanski, but who is?

@mayjay

Pos is the best; I sure miss his writing.

@mayjay Missed HEM's post. I'll have to go back and look.

@wissox It is funny, the url is different but the article number is the same, and both links go to the Star.

What are the chances this happens every year? I'd enjoy hearing from people on that.

If it does happen, will it remain in this format? I thought this was the perfect format. Venue is neutral and safe. Raises funds for a cause. By doing it so early we get a real competitive game so we can jump out of the blocks quickly when our season starts.

I do believe this game represents an additional huge advantage we have for winning the Big 12 every year. One of our strategies is to get out of the blocks quickly and this game helps us accomplish that.

@drgnslayr It's interesting to see the copy cats out there. The NCAA by logic has to let other teams do a an exhibition fund raiser also. Not sure if we copied someone else, I don't think so, but a trend has started and maybe it will continue.

I will say this about the matchup. It was easily the most exciting preseason/practice/exhibition I've ever seen. If you could measure such a thing, it would probably rank as the greatest game ever in that category.

Yes, greatest and Jayhawks are once again being spoken of in the same breath.

@drgnslayr Not at all likely as an exhibition for reasons already given. NCAA doesn't usually grant lots of waivers for repetitive events. As to reular season, who knows? Maybe if MU gets a recruit KU wanted then that could stimulate something. I don't think HCBS is real interested, tho.

@mayjay

Why does this require a waiver (moving forward)?

Just take it on as an early exhibition game and replace one of those silly in-state games.

I think we could still use it as a fundraiser... which would probably buy Kansas more positive PR than just financially capitalizing on another game.

@drgnslayr Exhibition games cannot be against Div 1 foes. That is the big waiver that likely won't happen unless there is another monster disaster or need for war bonds or something.

@mayjay

Didn't think of that. If we add it to our preconference schedule then we risk our rankings if we lose. Unless.... Mizzou starts regaining a rep and can go up in the rankings.

We won't play them again unless we meet in the NCAA tourney, imo. Knowing how the NCAA likes to engineer roadblocks for us in the tournament, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them again this year.

@KUSTEVE

True... true... and it looks like the NCAA enjoys mating WSU with UK, for some reason. So... IF Mizzou can make it into March, I can see them stick it to us.
