Shaka Smart sucks. He is a solid .668 for his career but a mediocre .500 at Texas even with tons of Swoosh bait.
Squeaky Weber is .610 at Cow Pie State and and.651 overall. It grinds me to admit it, but the guy can coach and deserves a shot at Texas with its Swoosh-Juiced rosters.
Shaka needs more time at a mid major.

Didn't Roy move there? I was sure the head coach of KU back in the late 90's early 2000's took a job at a Nike school? Was KU a Nike school then or was UNC an Adidas school back then? I am bewildered?

Coach Self does not have a contract with Adidas and never had one since his contract with KU specifically prevents him from signing a contract with any footwear, apparel or beverage manufacturer while he is under contract at KU. He simply coaches at school sponsored by Adidas.
Of course, you never let the facts get in the way of yet another loony narrative...I guess that makes YOU the “maroon.”
@JayHawkFanToo Unrelated to Bill Self, I had understood some coaches do have direct deals with shoe companies. Maybe I'm wrong. I thought Roy had one with Nike.
Williams has a Personal Services Contract withe Nike and so does Fedora, the UNC football coach. Coach Self's contract with KU specifically prevents him from having one; all the Adidas money goes directly to KU which likely uses part of the money to pay him. The UNC contract withe Nike is considerably lower than KU's contract with Adidas and maybe that is why Coach Williams is allowed to have a separate contract withe Nike
If Weber was at UT they would be much better than Shaka's teams....BUT, I'm not sure any Top 5 player would play for Liberace. He seems to run off lots of lower rated players...God only knows how quick a Top 5 recruit would be hitting the eject button.
@JayHawkFanToo Interesting .. in poking around, Pitino had one with Adidas. Wonder why some coaches do, and others don't? It would seem to me that not having a contractual connection to a shoe company might be a wise move. But I haven't considered all the moving parts.
I read that almost all of Pitino's salary came directly from Adidas where Coach Self gets zero from Adidas. I imagine it has to do with what different states allow for public employees and also what accountants, both personal and institution, recommend.
@JayHawkFanToo Ok. It would also seem to me that it would feel a bit dirty to get your money from a shoe company -- but if a state can only pay a public employee a certain amount of money, it might be a necessity.
It would also seem that a coach not contractually tied to a shoe company might be in a better position with all of the FBI stuff. I guess I wonder if Self or other coaches purposefully did deals without direct connections to the shoe companies for some reason (foreseeing the possible muck). It would seem that at the root level, it's better to be beholden to the lowest number of masters as possible. If I were a coach, I'd rather just get paid by the state vs. any other entity, if I was able to make the same money.
Texas basketball coach is not going nowhere
The state of Kansas limits how much a public employee can make so Coach Self derives only a few hundred thousand $ of his income from the state making him the highest paid state employee. The rest comes from Kansas Athletics, Incorporated, the corporation that was created to run all the sports at KU that get its income from gate receipts, tv contracts, merchandising, licensing agreements and donations among others, although the later are funneled through the Williams fund. In this regard, he has no direct or personal contractual obligation with Adidas other than indirectly as a member of the Athletic Department and as required by the KU-Adidas contract...in retrospect seems pretty smart and this is why and unlike Pitino he does not seem worried about payment to athletes by shoecos.
