I love it and am worried about it all at the same time. I absolutely love sports betting. But I think the leagues shouldn't be able to affiliate with the bookies at all. Not enough separation to avoid corruption, imo.

Perhaps the beginning of the end of sports as we know them...slippery slope?

The only way to make sure that players/officials/coaches/team personnel are not involved with betting and all of the dangers associated with betting (such as Tim Donaghy) is to regulate it through the league.

@justanotherfan has to become transparent too though. Need a lot of regulations and processes put in place to make me feel comfortable about this.

It can be done. It can grow the sport even more, especially overseas. So I get the allure from the league.

@Kcmatt7

I agree. This is a first step for sure. It is not a final step. Ultimately, the NBA will have to put in restrictions like casinos do - players and immediate families cannot gamble on any NBA game, no exceptions.

Why do people act like sports betting is a new thing??

Aug 02, 2018 07:15 PM #8

@Woodrow it’s not. But It’s one thing when it is one player or coach or ref getting paid off.

It’s a completely different thing when the entire league could be compromised.
