Are Girod and Long Cowards for Not Firing Beatty or.....
Sep 08, 2018 12:54 AM #1

....are they self-serving, disingenuous bosses giving Beatty rope to hang himself?

Or is there some other more politically correct explanation?

Girod doesn't have the authority to fire Beaty and Long who does have the authority officially took the job on August 1. Firing Beaty that close to the season means an interim coach for the season. In KU's case, that means most likely Clint Bowen.

Beaty will be fired at some point and won't coach KU in 2019.

Im sure this won't be a popular opinion and since I dont follow or care much for football, Im fine with it being ridiculed. But, I was hoping KU would lose against CMU today. My opinion is that now with a win, Beaty wont get fired until much later in the season there by prolonging the suffering of the players and fans that will be around next season.

@Lulufulu How does Beaty winning today lessen how hot his seat is? Ending the road losing streak is great and all, but Beaty still has a lot of work to do this season to avoid a pink slip after Thanksgiving or sooner.

If Long does fire Beaty at any point during the season, he's bringing in someone from outside the program until the season is done after the Texas game and if KU does play another game after that one (either B12 game or a bowl game), then Beaty would legitimately deserve year 5 based on his accomplishments this year.

Jeff Long has been on the job a little over a month, he needs a little bit more time to fully develop his strategy for rebuilding the football team. If Long fired Beaty without an idea of who he thinks would come here, it would be a waste of a firing. Long needs to develop his plan which includes a realistic candidate list along with actually giving Beaty a fair shot to save his job this year.

Does Girod have the authority to fire Long, who has the authority to fire Beaty? Or does Long not even have the authority to fire Beaty?

What is the actual chain of command?

@Texas-Hawk-10 Fair enough. I suppose Long would be most correct in not reflexively firing of Beaty this early.

To be honest, I hope KU and Long gain enough perspective and data to make an excellent choice of who coaches next.

Come in @Texas-Hawk-10...do you read me?

I seem to have lost radio contact with you regarding the last transmission regarding chain of command from Girod to Long to Beaty and a possible firing of Beaty. Control tower will retransmit...

Does Girod have the authority to fire Long, who has the authority to fire Beaty? Or does Long not even have the authority to fire Beaty?

What is the actual chain of command?

Over.
