Cypress Lake is a 2-acre (0.8 ha) swamp-like lake in the heart of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus that started as a prehistoric bison wallow. Today it is a unique university landmark that is a habitat for native irises, alligators, turtles, birds and fish. Swamp life environmental studies take place in the middle of the Campus.

Hey thanks for the reminders of our former home, or at least pretty nearby. Lafayette is the heart of Cajun country, not New Orleans! This is a place with rich culture and even a French dialect that some people still speak. We loved going to some of the great festivals in Lafayette. We'd have to cross one of America's longest bridges over the enormous Atchafalaya swamp to get there from Baton Rouge. The food is great. Crawfish farms abound in the lands around Lafayette. The mudbugs mainly come from those fields. As a town, Lafayette is kind of non-descript, but the people and culture really make it.
Zydeco breakfast in Breaux Bridge. Get there early on Saturday mornings to enjoy the fun! This. is right next to Lafayette
This guy has the best English version of Cajun accents.
I got no gators. We did like to discover them in the wild. No accent attained so none to lose.
