  @benshawks08 Out of the top 10-12 teams, there really isnt a whole lot of separation. I agree. I mean the 5-7 range for KU seems about right still. #1 is all MSU’s until they cant anymore. Everyone else has lots of bugs to work on. Which should make the season more interesting as things progress. I mean, last year we had Duke and UK at the top with Wisconsin right up there as far as domination in prospective conferences. Then everybody else. This year, anyone can beat anyone. There is no clear title favorite yet. I kinda like it!

  There’s a lot of mouths to feed on these team and its clear its going to be impossible to give them all the right balance. Self cares about playing the guys he trusts and right now that number is 7 or 8 depending on if you count Greene. You could argue that when Self has too much depth, what us fans see as the better player(s) and what he sees as the better player(s) are completely different. Maybe having depth isn’t good for him? I believe he knows Bragg & Diallo are better players than Lucas or Jamari but until they show it he’s going to let them learn the Self way. Other than missed layups I couldn’t see why either of them didn’t get to play more. They played hard on defense and when they were in, the pace was great and they contributed to the lead on the court. Where’s the ± for this game? Besides the minutes fiasco, this team didn’t play that well. It was basically a continuation of the Loyola 1st half where we were content to let an over-matched team stay in it for a while. This team has a lot of growing to do still and most of it is still predicated on being a better defensive team. We’ve seen when they really want to guard that they can, but there’s too much of a slip in the consistency. We’ve seen offensively that when perimeter shots are made, the ball gets up and down the court and guys are unselfish that this team can beat anyone. But we’ve also seen at team that is struggling at the FT line, struggling to make the simplest shot- a layup and at times just runs offense with no purpose. Exactly how games like Saturday stay close…

  @HighEliteMajor thank you, THAT could be maybe, at least , that would make some kind of sense, very well could be, but then this makes another question arise in which a lot of others have brought up , and I wish I could give the answer myself because I DO hate to try and second guess a coach because there is a reason they are the coach and I am who I am BUT going off the theory that you used and it is a logical reason , but that brings up this question, how are these talents ever going to be able to gain the trust if they don’t play at some point you have to turn them loose, let them out, and if they make the mistake, then let them play through the mistake. THATS how you learn just as anything else In life, even in life in general when your young , your strong, bull headed, no one can tell you anything you know it all right? and you just do it the way you think is right AND YOU LEARN, you learn maybe that it wasn’t right. That’s the same with these 3 Coach needs to put them out let them play, if they make the mistake then they learn, they learn the next time what NOT to do or at least we hope, but they can’t learn if you don’t turn them loose.Play them in all kinds of situations, actually might be better to put them in a tense tough situation help them prepare for down the line, Let learn if they have to off their mistakes. I personally would not have NEAR the problem with letting them play now, get experience, make their mistakes, grow NOW. I could live with an early season loss if need be while they grow, and gain experience, would lots rather that happen now in non-conference then during the season OR in the NCAA’S if you wait until late then put them in a pressure situation, where they are really in-experienced and not knowing how to play through could prove a lot more costly.   @drgnslayr Our guards are full of it. Frank, Devonte’ , Wayne. Those guys have IT. Bragg and Diallo have IT. They just havent been given a chance to prove it yet. I like Perry, I really do. He is a good player and he will leave KU as statistically one of the best. But holy cow!! I mean come on! Come on!

  @DoubleDD just thinking we don’t have many easy games in conference, plus our conference tourney. We always have tough games from lower seeds, such as drawing okie state w/smart 2 years ago. Baylor last year. TT beat ISU during regular season, ksu upset us at their place, (puke) then there’s always that TCU game. Just a thought.

  @jaybate-1.0 Interesting that the NCAA chose not to vacate the 2003 title…yes, that one…even when the violations started in 2002…makes you wonder why…probably the same reason why they are waiting to punish UNC until after the season since it has teams contending in both football and basketball

  @VailHawk Just about every top coach in college BBall including Coach Self is on the record indicating that by the meat of the schedule they prefer to play primarily 7-8 players and a few more limited minutes. The squid famously tried platooning last year so he could play 10 players and he indicated afterwards he will never try that again.

  @DoubleDD But you like Self having such a positive edge on other top coaches, right? And Self has beaten IZZO as much as others have beaten IZZO, right? Allen had Iba. And Wooden had Newell. And sometimes they never get time to finally figure the tough opponent out. Dean had Wooden’s dust for ten full years before Wooden retired and left the stage to Smith and then Knight. But I am confident Self is circling in on Izzo. Tom just does not make many mistakes at all. He is a very, very, VERY good basketball coach.

  I think the best explanation is that HCBS was feeding comments to the media that would supplant the minutes that Traylor lost to Diallo. He needs Jamari to stay engaged. He can’t afford to lose him (mentally, emotionally or spiritually) because Jamari knows the system and, as a senior, is less likely to have lapses and is more predictable in critical moments in games. That said, Self knows that Diallo has more talent and is going to need to get more and more minutes. Self is always coaching… And he knows how to use all the tools at his disposal to get the most out of the team. Don’t take this the wrong way, but the media is a sort of tool for him. I think he’s savvy, not delusional. Maybe I just choose to see it that way… (but I’ll look at his .800 winning percentage as exhibit A)

  Also, it will take him time to figure out when to stay on his man, and when to leave him to try and block a shot of another player. This is a bit trickier than just playing close clean d and timing your jumps. For instance, i saw in the last two games good discipline plays by both traylor and hunter where they were guarding their man down low, and another opposing player had got by a ku defender (perry and wayne) and were driving towards the basket. Rather than go over to help right away and thus leaving their men open for a easy pass, rebound, and a bucket, they waited until the driving player commited to the shot before trying to block it. I also saw a few plays by bragg and one by lucas where they went to help too soon, and the guys they were supposed to guard down low were then open for easy passes and baskets, or rebounds and baskets. Cheick will need to learn discipline, and i have no doubt he will, plus he looks to be a great natural shot blocker

  I watched the entire game and enjoyed every minute of it. UCLA force Kentucky into being an outside shooting team and they did not have good shooting night until the end when they connected on several 3s but by then it was too late and UCLA answered every time.
