Utah blowout • Nov 29, 2025 12:03 AM

The most frustrating play was the 3rd and goal at the UTAH 5 with 7:52 left in 4th quarter (score UTAH 17 - KAN 14) – You can run one more time and, if unsuccessful, tie the game on a field goal...and lean on the D which was doing great all day. That's conservative and it's pretty common for people to criticize those kinds of calls... but Utah actually brought on personnel that suggested they anticipated a passing play. So, getting aggressive there was a little too predictable, at least for Utah.

That play flipped the game.

Fans streamed out after that. It was crushing.

It felt like that was a 14 point play, even though we were only down 10 points with just under 8 minutes left to play.

there we go.

where is the shrug emoji?

Utah blowout • Nov 28, 2025 09:41 PM

Here's how you win that game with a modest shift in execution:

1st quarter [11:20]: 3rd and 9 at the UTAH 25 -- Instead of throwing an interception, you take an incompletion and kick a field goal. (3 points)

1st quarter [2:16]: 4th and 10 at the UTAH 13 -- Instead of false start and forcing a re-kick (which you miss), you kick a field goal. (3 points)

4th quarter [13:39]: 2nd and goal at the UTAH 12 -- Instead of throwing an interception in the end zone, throw it out of bounds and eventually kick a field goal. (3 points)

4th quarter [7:52]: 3rd and goal at the UTAH 5 -- instead of throwing an interception returned for a touchdown, you RUN the ball, get stuffed again, and kick a field goal. (3 points)

With this shift, KU scores 32 points. Enough to win the game even without taking away the 7 points Utah scores on the interception for a 99yd TD.

I wanted better for the Seniors. I stayed to the (bitterly cold) end, but it was hard.

Utah blowout • Nov 28, 2025 09:23 PM

That was a cold, disappointing experience. Hard to know where the program goes from here.

Some Buckets gold • Nov 28, 2025 05:37 AM

I like the idea of a fresh start to try to bring more people in. I would appreciate any effort to preserve the history of the board up to this point. There’s just too much gold to let it all go. (Of course I wish you could migrate it into the new site, but I get it…)

Also — and very important — I think the fact that you set up a new board with the sole purpose of socio-techno-political topics should provide an outlet for those conversations.

I think this board is at its best when it stays tightly aligned with KU sports. The depth of knowledge and thoughtful perspective on KU athletics is unmatched IMHO

2025 Chiefs • Nov 28, 2025 05:10 AM

The inconsistency in officiating was on full display and never more evident than if you watched the Chiefs/ Cowboys and the Bengals/Ravens back to back.

It was like the same game being adjudicated with two different rulebooks. The league needs to figure out what the hell is going on with offensive and defensive PI and holding…. Seriously, I think the crew of the Chiefs game should be investigated/reprimanded by the league.

Thanksgiving • Nov 27, 2025 05:32 PM

It's an even happier thanksgiving after three wins in three days!

Hoping everyone here has a nice break. I am back in Lawrence with family. Bought tickets to the Utah game in a fit of irrational exuberance in September...

How is Players Era NIL distributed? • Nov 27, 2025 04:44 PM

JK, but I seriously wondered if at halftime, they let Elmarko know that he would get a cut.

Kansas vs Tennessee game thread • Nov 27, 2025 04:37 PM

Elmarko taketh and giveth. Great win.

Please feature a clip of the dunk by Rosario at the end of the Syracuse game that pushed ISU out of the 3rd place game.

LOL. That was worth $200-300k

Post game with Bill Self • Nov 26, 2025 07:23 PM

White reminds me of a taller Frank Mason without the PG responsibilities. Also JWill..

Gotta love his aggressiveness and game intelligence. Winning combination.

Iowa State Game • Nov 24, 2025 02:53 PM

My expectations were clearly not realistic this year.

Duke Game • Nov 20, 2025 01:56 AM

We were better than I expected. I don't think I'm alone given the way the sports pundits are talking.

TBH, the MSU / UK game had the score I feared would be ours.

Duke Game • Nov 18, 2025 07:35 PM

Prediction: Duke gets out to a 13-7 lead pretty quickly... like, around the under-16 TV timeout. That's as close as it gets.

2025 Chiefs • Nov 17, 2025 11:28 PM

IMHO, Pacheco's absence is significant. It limits the running game which in turn affects the passing game.

If this is true, then there's a pretty good chance we are all wrong.

Right or wrong, google says "The average age for a Division I men's basketball head coach was 50 in 2023"

Princeton • Nov 16, 2025 04:41 PM

Good grief. Can't help but wonder if NIL contracts tied payments to games played there would be a little more care given to warm up without injury and play through things.

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 08:43 PM

Don't watch the last 5 minutes. Sheesh.

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 08:37 PM

Starting to look like the only one who can stop Bidunga is Bidunga.

Tre White getting his groove today.

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 07:33 PM

Man, when you can play like that you GOTTA play like that ALL the time.

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 07:31 PM

Where has Bidunga been?

Nice to finally get a Flory Flurry!

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 07:09 PM

This is a team that will make you earn your points in the half court. We don't know how to do that yet.

@BeddieKU23 Today he looks like he's not focused.

Princeton • Nov 15, 2025 07:01 PM

Effort guys. Effort.

Epilogue: That RB on my son's team mentioned above went to Sacramento State, turned into a wide receiver and transferred to San Jose St. over the summer?

Danny Scudero.

2025 Stats to date:
68 receptions for 1,126 YDS, 10 TDs. Avg 16.6 Currently #1 in the NCAA. Sophomore.

No, it's not P4. Yeah, he's 5' 9" 174lbs. But man do I wish KU would recruit beyond the usual suspects sometimes.

^^ A book that explains it. In many cases, its not an accident; it's a strategy... or at least the byproduct of a strategy.

Texas A&M CC • Nov 12, 2025 01:46 AM

The team is far from surgical at this point. Often looks like 5 guys rather than a unit. Athleticism is there, so here's hoping Self can coach them up and they keep their heads up going through the journey.

KU vs Louis Takeaways • Oct 25, 2025 08:53 PM

Elmarko was a question mark, but I think he went a ways toward wiping the questions away. He seems to be fully recovered. Made some positive contributions.

In general, the team seemed to take this exhibition pretty seriously.

The athleticism and, yes, the speed, is a welcome return.

Outscored 42-10 by a .500 team since that time.

I remember being excited about this game. It was the first two minutes of the game. That was it.

Kansas State hate • Oct 25, 2025 06:40 PM

We could win 25 of the next 30 years and it would not make up for this streak. It's unconscionable at this point.

That screen play was the first play I've seen that was executed as designed

Lance Leipold • Oct 25, 2025 05:08 PM

@dylans Sorry-- what I was saying is negative 3. As in Zero and then you can go back three more years of losses. My son is a sophomore. He was 3 years old the last time KU beat KState in football. (He doesn't remember it.)
