It's a long game. Plenty of opportunities left to right the ship. But we can't let the lead grow and the staff better get a revised plan for the second half. Otherwise this is just the 17th chapter.
Yes.. It's raining. On both teams.
Second half was not the way to judge that game.

SMH
@BShark And that one too.
@approxinfinity That thought also crossed my mind.
@wissox That thought definitely crossed my mind.
Can't recall the last time JD threw the ball away when the play was busted.
@rockchalkjayhawk Dark humor.
@rockchalkjayhawk Depends on what you look at.
Record: KU is 4-3; KSU is 3-4.
Recent $$ spent on program: KU > KSU
History: K-State has won 16 years in a row.
One team used their bye week better than the other one.
@stoptheflop I agree. The way I think about our competitiveness is how many wins have we had against a team since the freshmen arriving on campus were in Kindergarten. (That's since 2012 as of now. And right now, KU vs K-State = -3 wins)
Affiliates can choose to show whatever they want in the time slot.
ABC, however, has more distribution channels than just the affiliates. So they can continue to produce the show and make it available to other affiliates as well as on streaming (Hulu/Disney+) and YouTube etc and continue to generate revenue from it.
I may not have this right but I think the way it works is that a show like Kimmel's comes with national advertising revenue that is shared with affiliates when they air it. So Sinclair is choosing to decline that rev-share. It’s probably a relatively small amount.
This was a good win and the best part was that it was not Jalen’s best game and still a dominant performance. We also bucked the trend of the final-two-minutes-scourge.
????
Impossible to know how accurate, but I saw a documentary on the making of the show. There was extensive original research coupled with years of myriad news outlets’ reporting.
One of the advantages of the show being done 25-30 years after the incident is that there was time to gather lots of details and sort through the conflicting accounts (both the deliberate and the mistaken).
Need a team win today. Let’s hope the new stadium holds its own “phog” magic. Looking for every natural and supernatural advantage we can get.
It is the doomiest and gloomiest. But really well done.
Part of my appreciation was due to the fact that I had huge holes in my understanding of the story. I followed the story during the initial event, but, of course, the Soviets had a tight lid on information so it was limited info and in some cases not accurate (disinformation). As years went by (after the wall came down), more info was released but it wasn’t in my news cycle so I missed it.
Chernobyl is underrated. Really an incredible series.
If you have (as I do) at least a faint trepidation that this thread could be mined in the future to be used against you, and choosing words very carefully, then you should be able to appreciate the chilling effect of these actions by the FCC and current administration.
It's a bit hard to get my head around why the President of the United States is engaging even one brain cell on late night TV. Let alone targeting American comedians (he tweeted that Fallon should be cancelled next). His tweet low-key sounded like the Emperor in Star Wars: "Do it NBC!!!"
Why he is targeting Jimmy Fallon like he's Saddam Hussein?
Fallon is an anodyne comedian but the President is acting like there's a stash of WMD at 30 Rock... maybe hidden behind his desk??
Insane.
@FarmerJayhawk Thx-- got mixed up with something else

Murthy v. Missouri
The decision on this was 24 hours before the announcement. Possibly emboldened the key players (FCC chair, NextStar, etc.)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alitio wrote the dissenting opinion.
This group is counting on the public to focus on the trees and not the forest.
It has nothing to do with ratings. It has little to do with Kirk except that it's a useful (opportunistic) narrative.
@approxinfinity said in Not paying for ESPN this year:
encourage you to watch the clip of Kimmel. Theres nothing there.
Not only is there nothing there, but I've seen different clips used as the example. Exactly what is the offensive quote? I have not seen the text specified from ABC, NextStar, etc.
Lots of speculation and fervor which seems invited and encouraged by those that need a smokescreen.
A brain substitute is how it is being marketed. Definitely not the right way to use it.
This is classic wag the dog.
This is not really about Kimmel and Kirk. However, the focus on them is really helpful to those want to continue to concentrate power.
Regardless of how you feel about Kirk, or really any person, it’s not right for their death and memory to be exploited and manipulated in this manner (for profit).
This whole thing is a business deal wrapped in political ideology.
There’s a long-standing FCC law that prevents the accumulation of media properties that reach in excess of 39% of all US households.
Nexstar (a media group owning and operating many ABC stations) is interested in buying another company that would result in a violation of this FCC rule. The rule exists to limit concentration of media influence.
The announcement to preempt Kimmel was a tactic to ingratiate themselves with the FCC chair so that he will make an exception to the rule. Hey, it worked for CBS (see, Colbert).
If you think the media conglomerates are already too big and have too much influence, then you should be pretty concerned about what is really going down behind all of this hand-waving about comedians.
Oachi would be indisputably #1 if his final four performance would have been closer to Brandon Rush’s. It’s the only chink in his record, which still wasn’t enough to keep him from earning MVP honors.
I think #1 on the list has to be the proper placement.
I assume this list is bill self era only. I think there have been some deserving guards from prior eras
Not sure how good Oregon state is and remains to be seen where Missouri stacks up. Their QB was impressive at key moments and made few mistakes.
Historically they are somewhere in the middle of the SEC. Never in the top 25% and rarely in the bottom 25%. Did we lose to a team that is exceptionally good or another mid SEC team?
The rest of season awaits, including the entire conference. Plenty of opportunities in front. But improvement needs to be urgent and immediate. And BOTH sides — offense and defense — have equal need to improve.

@wissox 3-1?
Oh yes, we're already 2-1
Yeah. Good to keep it in perspective.
Would never want a home loss,, but hard not to wish we had gone from 1-1 to 2-1 this time rather than going from 2-0 to 2-1.
Go Army.
This team is over reliant on Jalen Daniels.
Pretty sure Mizzou only punted one time in the game.
+/- in the final 2 minutes is epically bad
@nuleafjhawk lol I see what you did there ;-)
I’d hate to see our +/- in the final 2 min of the last year or so.
Offense needs to learn 2 things: how to play with a lead and how to play well without having momentum or rhythm.
And the whole squad has to play better in the final 2 minutes. By better I just mean don’t collapse.
Four offensive plays in the 2nd quarter, right?
You’d think that someone would be looking at the obvious pattern of catastrophe in the final 2 minutes of 1st and 2nd halves. Last year and now this year
Gonna be a looong day if we use our 'explosive' QB for run play handoffs and our defense can't stop them.
Chiefs are rusty. Officials see no evil on Chargers side.
Last year's team was not lacking athletes or ability. But they performed/executed well below their abilities. For a Bill Self team, this was anomalous. We are used to Bill Self teams performing at or beyond their individual ceilings.
So, I'm going to posit that the players this year are, collectively, more or less similar in ability to previous years'. What will need to be different is how they perform throughout the season.
That leads me to the question: is the 2025 Bill Self and staff greater than the 2024 Bill Self and staff?
Well, on the historical topic, here's one of those mom's-father's-brother things..
I recently learned of a connection to Quantrill's Raid on my mom's side. Most of the raiders were killed or got away, but one was captured by my mom's paternal grandmother's father. Apparently the rifle used to seize the raider was passed down to her uncle who gave it to her father and she inherited it when he died.
There are many accounts of the raid with conflicting details, so I take this with a bit of a grain of salt. Like anything, I figure there are some bits of truth in all of the accounts.
Nadir Tharpe?

Not a good spot to post this, but I see two former Jayhawk receivers were waived today.
Quentin Skinner was released by the Jets today.
Luke Grimm released by the Chargers.
Any others?
God how I wish they could come back. Difference makers. Here’s hoping some guys this year can step up to make me not long to hear the names Skinner and Grimes.
Dallas wants Archie Manning
Either Frank Mason or Occhi Abaji?
If they had the 3 pt line in 1986, Ron Kellogg would have been on the list. Somewhat overshadowed by the rules and stats like Wilt vis a vis blocks.
Ok. Wow. (I am surprised.) Who am I missing? Do I have those right?
