Random Jayhawk trivia questions!
Aug 11, 2025 01:20 AM #1

I found a nice resource for all the Jayhawks who have played in the NBA.

I assume it's up to date.

So, to beat the summer doldrums i'll pose some trivia questions to see if anybody can or wants to answer -- without looking up the answers! These questions all pertain to past Jayhawks.

Once we get a correct answer, i'll post another.

QUESTION

Of all the Jayhawks and ONLY Jayhawks who have played in the NBA, who ranks SECOND in rebounds per game average?

Aug 11, 2025 01:38 AM #2

Hmmm just a guess… Scot Pollard?

Aug 11, 2025 03:29 AM #3

Paul Pierce ?

Aug 11, 2025 03:39 AM #4

Embiid

No one is catching Wilt.

Aug 11, 2025 03:51 AM #5

Close, but no cigars yet…

Aug 11, 2025 04:33 AM #6

(may take a guess from somebody who's been around the block a few times or so to answer this one)

Aug 11, 2025 06:01 AM #7

Clyde Lovellette?

Aug 11, 2025 06:34 AM #8

@bskeet said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

Clyde Lovellette?

Good guess, but nope.

Aug 11, 2025 05:08 PM #9

This one may be too hard.

The correct answer is: Bill Bridges, who edged out Joel Embiid 11.9 to 11.0 in career rebounds per game

Bridges was at KU 58-61?

Aug 11, 2025 05:26 PM #10

QUESTION

Name the all time Top 5 Jayhawks in scoring per game in the NBA.

Aug 11, 2025 05:36 PM #11

Wilt, Embiid, Pierce, Lovellette, jojo white. At least one of these is correct. šŸ˜

Aug 11, 2025 05:46 PM #12

@dylans said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

Soo close! Lovellette just missed the cut...so who is the fifth?

Aug 11, 2025 07:13 PM #13

Mario Chalmers?

edit: Or Andrew Wiggins?

Aug 11, 2025 07:31 PM #14

Wiggins for the win!

Wilt -- 30.1

Embiid -- 27.7

Pierce -- 19.7

Wiggins -- 18.5

JoJo White -- 17.2

Aug 11, 2025 07:34 PM #15

QUESTION

This is a real close one, but name the Jayhawk with the best assists per game average in the NBA.

Aug 11, 2025 09:12 PM #16

Wilt Chamberlain

Aug 11, 2025 10:46 PM #17

I want it to be Jacque! But I’d guess it’s Jojo.

Aug 11, 2025 10:53 PM #18

@rockchalkjayhawk Easy.

Wilt

Wilt

Wilt

Wilt

Wilt

Aug 11, 2025 11:28 PM #19

Wilt is in the running, but no winners yet…

Aug 12, 2025 12:04 AM #20

And remember, it's super duper close.

Aug 12, 2025 01:11 AM #21

1st guess: Kirk Heinrich

2nd guess: Mario Chalmers

Aug 12, 2025 01:40 AM #22

Nick Collison

Aug 12, 2025 02:31 AM #23

@bskeet said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

1st guess: Kirk Heinrich

2nd guess: Mario Chalmers

Bzzz. But Hinrich is a good guess. Just a sliver behind the leader.

I'll offer a clue to those i know on the board (ha) ... it was a few years before my time at KU.

Aug 12, 2025 02:00 PM #24

Darnell Valentine?

Aug 12, 2025 03:15 PM #25

@HoraceZontal said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

Darnell Valentine?

Valentine 5.0 apg is just ahead of JoJo white’s 4.9

Aug 12, 2025 03:24 PM #26

Valentine for the win! Yea, those numbers were fractionally close.

Aug 12, 2025 03:29 PM #27

QUESTION

Which Jayhawk has the most career 3 pointers made?

Aug 12, 2025 03:37 PM #28

Billy Thomas! Forget the NBA!!! Also missed 12 attempts in one game before that was cool.

Billy Thomas! Now that’s a Good, positive memory.

talkin NBA stats here...but spot on for KU only stats!

Aug 12, 2025 08:23 PM #33

@rockchalkjayhawk I'd assume it'd be Pierce by a lot.

Aug 12, 2025 08:32 PM #34

@approxinfinity Yeah, but it's hard to build a lot of memories in 6 months.

Aug 12, 2025 10:26 PM #35

Devonte Graham? He was prolific in a short time.

Aug 13, 2025 12:19 AM #36

@wissox said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

@rockchalkjayhawk I'd assume it'd be Pierce by a lot.

Bing Bing Bing Bing Bing. we have a winner!

Paul Pierce with 2,143 made 3pters

Marcus Morris (go figure) with 1,300.

Hinrich with 1,172.

Aug 13, 2025 12:20 AM #37

This should be an easy one...but a footnote: Don't guess Wilt. Not sure they kept those stats back then.

QUESTION

Which Jayhawk has the most blocks in the NBA?

Aug 13, 2025 12:23 AM #38

@rockchalkjayhawk Embiid. Is my guess. But it would be great if it was Ostertag.

QUESTION

Which Jayhawk has played the most NBA games?

Aug 13, 2025 12:56 AM #44

DeJuan Harris?

Aug 13, 2025 12:57 AM #45

Whoops -- NBA. I rescind my guess and promise to undergo reading rehabilitation before posting again.

Aug 13, 2025 01:18 AM #46

Wilt had a long run in the NBA. If it's not Wilt, probably Pierce given all the years and playoffs (and the seasons were longer too).

@bskeet said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

Paul Pierce for the win! 1,343

Wilt next up with 1,045

Aug 13, 2025 03:04 AM #48

Not too many exciting NBA stats left. But, before we go:

QUESTION

How many Jayhawks have played in the NBA/ABA?

Aug 13, 2025 05:31 AM #49

I'm guessing 40-45

Aug 13, 2025 05:55 AM #50

@bskeet said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

I'm guessing 40-45

Tough one, but nope.

Aug 13, 2025 12:49 PM #51

Exactly 73

Aug 13, 2025 01:48 PM #52

Ostertag as the block leader probably needs an asterisk since Wilt would be leading if blocks were a recorded stat back then

Aug 13, 2025 03:25 PM #53

@HoraceZontal said in Random Jayhawk trivia questions!:

Exactly 73

Getting closer.

Aug 13, 2025 03:38 PM #54

Maybe a lot more in the ABA than I realized. When you give the answer, it would be interesting to see the ABA/NBA breakdown.

Also, in the 20 years from 1970 - 1989 I'd be surprised if there were more than 10 Jayhawks in the pros. Wilt was still playing at the front-end of that period and Danny Manning was a rookie at the back-end. That's two. You've got Jo-Jo and Robisch, Valentine, Dreiling, Prichard, Chris Piper and maybe even Scooter Barry made it into the league. That's 9 maybe. Most had short careers in the pros.

As a fan, it seemed like a desert in that period.

Aug 13, 2025 03:47 PM #56

Ok. Wow. (I am surprised.) Who am I missing? Do I have those right?

Aug 13, 2025 03:58 PM #57

The site I’m using sadly doesn’t break it down obviously between NBA and ABA. So, would require some extra footwork to see.

Aug 13, 2025 03:59 PM #58

@rockchalkjayhawk Unofficially Wilt. Officially probably Joel

I’ll break it down a bit later for ya.

So the question was how many Jayhawks have played in the NBA/ABA. Pretty broad and hard to answer. So the answer is 87!

The first being Giff Roux in 1947.

Aug 13, 2025 06:06 PM #63

A few of others are Quentin Grimes, Grady Dick, Andrew White III, Keith Langford, Wayne Simien, Johnny Furphy, and Kevin McCullar.

Aug 13, 2025 07:15 PM #64

Josh Jackson

Aug 13, 2025 08:14 PM #65

Already forgot about Furphy. Wow.

Does Grimes really count? If inducted into the college hall of fame he would not be wearing a Jayhawk jersey!

Simien and Giddens I was attributing to Roy since he recruited them.

Bunch of studs on that list. I’m pretty sure Tarik Black played for the Lakers and Rockets briefly too - not a drafted player.

I’m glad you mentioned Tarik Black. Yup. My lists are not complete. The website database I was using lists guys in a funny way. I’ll have to fill in the blanks. Sherron Collins, too!

Aug 14, 2025 12:30 PM #69

Didn’t sherron miss his flight?

Aug 14, 2025 04:50 PM #70

Guys that made the NBA that were coming to KU until Duke and Zona gave money to before there was anything like NIL: ayton and Zion

Aug 14, 2025 07:05 PM #71

@wissox Zion and Wiggins and Embiid and Selden would’ve been filthy.

Aug 14, 2025 11:11 PM #72

@dylans Zion was later than those guys though.

Aug 15, 2025 01:18 AM #73

@wissox Don’t let facts get in the way of a good fantasy

Aug 15, 2025 10:34 PM #74

Harrison twins? No thank you!

Aug 15, 2025 11:07 PM #75

In an alternate reality, KU's 2012-13 starting line up could've been Elijah Johnson, Bradley Beal, Ben McLemore, Otto Porter, and Jeff Withey. Still a little weak at PG with EJ, but KU was runner up for both Beal and Porter and had KU landed both, that's a hell of a starting 5.

Aug 15, 2025 11:22 PM #76

@Texas-Hawk-10 That would have been great. Plus Releford would have been by far the best 6th man in the country that year.

Aug 15, 2025 11:56 PM #77

If you miss this trivia question, you are banned from this site, you will burn every KU related article of clothing and you will, from this point forward be considered a K-State fan.

Fifty-Two years after his retirement, what former KU Jayhawk STILL holds 72 NBA records?

Aug 16, 2025 01:14 AM #78

@Texas-Hawk-10 and being runner up to Georgetown and Florida actually feels like runner up, not in second position but a lap behind like vs. Nike flagship schools (Duke, UK)

Aug 17, 2025 01:04 PM #79

@nuleafjhawk

Aug 17, 2025 02:02 PM #80

@P-H-C HAHA! Outstanding!
