Hate Missouri Week. Game chat here!
Sep 02, 2025 12:57 AM #1

I saw a supposedly seriously posted question on Twitter, you know, X, the other day asking why do KU fans hate Missouri so much. It was pretty evenly answered by people living in Misery and people living in the sunflower state.

The hatred is real. They can't tolerate us because some Jayhawkers attacked Osceola and killed some slavers there. Of course the raid on Lawrence was far worse and resulted in a large loss of life. It's great to be able to say we hate them simply because we're on the right side of history in the conflict. Typically some of them uttered some nonsense about states rights being the issue while others cried foul on that and gave the reason for what it really is.

When I arrived on campus I was unaware of this history. I'd grown up with Bears/Packers and thought that was hatred but that was 'you suck and so does your grandma' type of hatred. But suddenly I got immersed in this rivalry and it didn't take long for me to develop my own hatred for all things Misery.

I don't think all the pent up hatred and anger towards them is going to help us this weekend, but I hope I'm wrong.

They never finish the sentence, states right to what?

Sep 02, 2025 02:43 AM #3

I honestly have zero idea of how in the hell they can recruit black players with the history they proudly share. There will be thousands of folks in the stands wearing Quantrill shirts that say burn baby burn. It would be like Germany wearing hitler shirts to the Olympics.

Sep 02, 2025 11:47 AM #4

@kjayhawks I've wondered the same thing.

Sep 02, 2025 04:09 PM #5

Anyone interested in the history of the evil wrought by the miseryans should read the book "The Englishman in Kansas" by TH Gladstone.

Sep 03, 2025 12:52 PM #6

Lawrence (and therefore KU by association) had a remarkable role in the termination of the abomination and horror that was American slavery. An early attempt at a Kansas constitution came out of Lecompton and included the right to own slaves. This proposal wasn't ratified by Congress. Anti-slavery residents in Lawrence and Kansas City then proposed a constitution that didn't include the right to own slaves, the Wyndotte Constitution which led to Kansas's admission as a state, a free state. Our admission tipped the number of anti-slavery votes in Congress in favor of abolition. Thereafter, South Carolina and other states attempted to secede from the union. To fight to become a free state, Lawrence residents campaigned for anti-slavery supporters, many from Illinois to come to Lawrence to live and boost the number of voters in favor of a free state. It's too early in the morning to look up more of the actual history, but it is truly fascinating how Lawrence residents in 1858-1860 fought to become a free state, which led to Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. And yes, Missouri slavers fought Kansans the whole way.

Well, on the historical topic, here's one of those mom's-father's-brother things..

I recently learned of a connection to Quantrill's Raid on my mom's side. Most of the raiders were killed or got away, but one was captured by my mom's paternal grandmother's father. Apparently the rifle used to seize the raider was passed down to her uncle who gave it to her father and she inherited it when he died.

There are many accounts of the raid with conflicting details, so I take this with a bit of a grain of salt. Like anything, I figure there are some bits of truth in all of the accounts.

Sep 03, 2025 07:50 PM #8

For the record - every week is hate Missouri week.

Sep 03, 2025 09:05 PM #9

Learning some good interesting history here.

Sep 04, 2025 05:43 PM #10

@bskeet That's a fascinating story to be connected with.

KU sporting an interesting uni for this one.

Sep 06, 2025 07:16 PM #14

@wissox how can you tell?

Sep 06, 2025 07:18 PM #15

@nuleafjhawk Oh I saw a tweet about it earlier!

Sep 06, 2025 07:20 PM #16

Ok, so the tweet was just for effect. Normal unis it looks like.

Sep 06, 2025 07:26 PM #17

This is not good at all

Sep 06, 2025 07:27 PM #18

Line bad and bad call

Sep 06, 2025 07:27 PM #19

We gonna get waxed

Sep 06, 2025 07:29 PM #20

Gonna be a looong day if we use our 'explosive' QB for run play handoffs and our defense can't stop them.

Sep 06, 2025 07:29 PM #21

Oof

Sep 06, 2025 07:30 PM #22

Horse collar?

Sep 06, 2025 07:31 PM #23

What was the call?

Sep 06, 2025 07:32 PM #24

@Crimsonorblue22 Taunting. Applied on Kick off I believe.

Sep 06, 2025 07:32 PM #25

Well at least the XTR point was blocked.

Sep 06, 2025 07:32 PM #26

@wissox on them?

Sep 06, 2025 07:32 PM #27

@wissox bikini wax

Sep 06, 2025 07:33 PM #28

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes.

Sep 06, 2025 07:33 PM #29

Yes. It was the center for MO

Sep 06, 2025 07:34 PM #30

@bskeet they might try replacing the explosive qb with a good one - Marshall

Sep 06, 2025 07:35 PM #31

Does ESPN have a contract to show those kids with overalls and chest painted? Tired of seeing them.

Sep 06, 2025 07:37 PM #32

Good 4th down play.

Sep 06, 2025 07:37 PM #33

Didn't know you were allowed to hit a guy before he makes the catch. Nice 4th down call though!

Sep 06, 2025 07:37 PM #34

Heck yeah!

Sep 06, 2025 07:38 PM #35

Woohoo!!!!

Sep 06, 2025 07:38 PM #36

Sep 06, 2025 07:40 PM #39

Sep 06, 2025 07:40 PM #40

Now can the defense get off the bus

Sep 06, 2025 07:43 PM #41

Good job special teams.

Sep 06, 2025 07:44 PM #42

Great hit! Mizzou didn’t do very well w/coordinating their shirts in the stands!

Sep 06, 2025 07:45 PM #43

Yes!! Yes!!! Yes!!!!

Sep 06, 2025 07:46 PM #46

I think it is cool that KU is showing the game on the football field. Is that common?

Sep 06, 2025 07:47 PM #47

That’s some D!

Sep 06, 2025 07:48 PM #48

@patoh3 I know they’ve done it in AFH for playoff games. Been awhile

Sep 06, 2025 07:48 PM #49

How fun!

Sep 06, 2025 07:53 PM #50

Defense stepped it up.

Sep 06, 2025 07:54 PM #51

JD fumbles it.

Sep 06, 2025 07:56 PM #52

This is a stupid review because we recovered it anyway clearly.

Sep 06, 2025 07:56 PM #53

Lucky

Sep 06, 2025 07:57 PM #54

Sweet

Sep 06, 2025 07:58 PM #56

Wow, what a throw and catch! I know @nuleafjhawk hates him but I never really understood why.

Sep 06, 2025 07:59 PM #57

Run it to the side. Up the gut has not worked.

Sep 06, 2025 07:59 PM #58

Need casey

Sep 06, 2025 07:59 PM #59

Who would have thought that we would score 21 points in the 1st quarter?

Sep 06, 2025 08:00 PM #61

I might want to amend my "we're gonna get waxed" comment from before.

Sep 06, 2025 08:00 PM #62

Weren’t we 6.5 underdogs?

Sep 06, 2025 08:01 PM #63

TD

Sep 06, 2025 08:01 PM #64

Missouri allowed to challenge every call they don't like? Seemed pretty clear he was across the line.

Sep 06, 2025 08:01 PM #65

@wissox I don't hate him. I just don't think he's as good as what he's been hyped up.

Although, he could possibly change my mind today. I'm not a closed book.

Sep 06, 2025 08:02 PM #66

@nuleafjhawk bookmark it

Sep 06, 2025 08:03 PM #67

How can u not see that?

Sep 06, 2025 08:03 PM #68

Now we need to keep the energy up and not relax defense!

Sep 06, 2025 08:03 PM #69

Gotta keep it up

Sep 06, 2025 08:03 PM #70

Make them leave at half

Sep 06, 2025 08:07 PM #71

@wissox I'm a rebel. I never liked Grady Dick either. (I'm surprised I could remember his name)

Sep 06, 2025 08:07 PM #72

Official set a nice pic on our defender on that play.

Sep 06, 2025 08:20 PM #73

Two offside penalties really hurt the D on this drive

Sep 06, 2025 08:20 PM #74

@nuleafjhawk dang, he's such a nice, cool kid!

Sep 06, 2025 08:21 PM #75

Need to get a score back

Sep 06, 2025 08:23 PM #76

Beginning of the end

Sep 06, 2025 08:24 PM #77

Can u swat it to the endzone

Sep 06, 2025 08:24 PM #78

What's Lance mad about?

Sep 06, 2025 08:25 PM #79

Can't advance a fumble?

Sep 06, 2025 08:25 PM #80

I guess the rules don't matter anymore

Sep 06, 2025 08:26 PM #81

How could they not see that?

Sep 06, 2025 08:26 PM #82

Smh talk about extreme highs and lows

Sep 06, 2025 08:27 PM #83

@DanR We advanced a fumble and scored, or do you mean they hit it to the end zone? I'm confused if we think they did that why it can't be reviewed. They reviewed two plays to try to benefit Misery so far.

Sep 06, 2025 08:28 PM #84

Horrendous missed call but JD's ball security is horrible. Carrying the ball like a loaf of bread after getting bailed out earlier

Sep 06, 2025 08:28 PM #85

@wissox have to have possession to advance. Maybe you can tap it with your hand, but you can't kick it and then run and jump on it for sure

Sep 06, 2025 08:29 PM #86

@wissox we picked it up and ran, they swatted it to the end zone

Sep 06, 2025 08:29 PM #87

Just not reviewable

Sep 06, 2025 08:32 PM #88

This defense is on their heals now.

Sep 06, 2025 08:32 PM #89

How is our depth on D? Problem we had last year guys got gassed.

Sep 06, 2025 08:36 PM #90

@wissox are you saying they are injured?

Sep 06, 2025 08:36 PM #91

@approxinfinity No, we're just looking bad right now.

Sep 06, 2025 08:37 PM #92

Misery has a great kicker who got hurt last week. Our gain right now.

Sep 06, 2025 08:37 PM #93

@wissox sorry, i was embracing the unintended pun. I started watching when we were up 21-6, so i am as about as bad luck as it comes. About to leave, expect a bounce back shortly

Sep 06, 2025 08:38 PM #94

Missouri burned a lot of clock on these two drives

KU D may be gassed

Sep 06, 2025 08:40 PM #95

False start much?

Sep 06, 2025 08:41 PM #96

Time to mow the yard I guess

Sep 06, 2025 08:41 PM #97

Missouri ran that play so fast we didn't have time to ask for a review. It may have been juggled.

Sep 06, 2025 08:41 PM #98

Yeah they grinded out those last two drives. Defense is gassed

Sep 06, 2025 08:45 PM #99

How many offensive plays did KU run in the 2nd quarter? The one?

Sep 06, 2025 08:50 PM #100

My phone won't let me type all the curse words that I want to say.

Sep 06, 2025 08:53 PM #101

Couldn’t get outside?

Sep 06, 2025 08:54 PM #102

The producer must have a kid sittting there with his shirt off in overalls. We've seen them about 80 times so far.

Sep 06, 2025 08:55 PM #103

So our effort to not go anywhere on our last possession was remarkably successful.

Did we even try? I’m at the game. Very upset with the drive. Saved time to just puddle the fuck around?

Like I get the called timeouts. But we should have then instead tried to move the ball

Those are 80 different parts of the crowd. It is high fashion week.

" We're up 21-6. Quit playing and act like complete morons now "

Sep 06, 2025 08:58 PM #108

I hate this sport when we are the ones doing dumb things.

Lots of fun when we aren’t.

College football

Sep 06, 2025 08:59 PM #109

Yell at the team instead of the Ref, Lance.

Sep 06, 2025 08:59 PM #110

This is the defense that inspired me to write we're gonna get waxed earlier.

Sep 06, 2025 08:59 PM #111

@nuleafjhawk Did we rehire the stupid offensive coordinator?

Sep 06, 2025 09:00 PM #112

@mayjay You should see what he's doing to Wisconsin right now. It's ugly

Sep 06, 2025 09:00 PM #113

Stupid plays before halftime.

Sep 06, 2025 09:01 PM #114

Horrendous quarter

Sep 06, 2025 09:01 PM #115

OK, Tied at half. Could ~~be~~ get worse.

Sep 06, 2025 09:02 PM #116

You’d think that someone would be looking at the obvious pattern of catastrophe in the final 2 minutes of 1st and 2nd halves. Last year and now this year

Sep 06, 2025 09:05 PM #117

I feel lucky to be tied after that second qtr, right up David Beatys alley -15 yards for the quarter. I’m sorry but I bet they come out and throat punch us right from the start

Sep 06, 2025 09:05 PM #118

Four offensive plays in the 2nd quarter, right?

Sep 06, 2025 09:06 PM #119

@bskeet yes for -15 yards and the defense was completely gassed which lead to that last FG.

Sep 06, 2025 09:07 PM #120

We have to get the run game going or we are toast, crazy because central Arkansas damn near ran for 200 on these guys last week.

Sep 06, 2025 09:09 PM #121

Offense needs to learn 2 things: how to play with a lead and how to play well without having momentum or rhythm.

And the whole squad has to play better in the final 2 minutes. By better I just mean don’t collapse.

Sep 06, 2025 09:13 PM #122

I’d hate to see our +/- in the final 2 min of the last year or so.

Sep 06, 2025 09:15 PM #123

Anyone notice the entirely white cast of the mizzou commercial. Lol. Slavers gonna be slavers.

Sep 06, 2025 09:15 PM #124

@bskeet yes. But they were all really offensive

Sep 06, 2025 09:16 PM #125

Here’s hoping our offense can actually get on the field on the second half.

Sep 06, 2025 09:17 PM #126

@nuleafjhawk lol I see what you did there ;-)

Sep 06, 2025 09:24 PM #127

We're really getting killed in 3rd down plays this game.

Sep 06, 2025 09:26 PM #128

Missouri should be embarrassed only being tied against a team like ours at halftime.

Sep 06, 2025 09:28 PM #129

Hey we finally got a 4th down stop! Need a long drive to give the D some rest here

Sep 06, 2025 09:28 PM #130

@wissox meh. We are one missed call on the safety from leading at the half and then getting a stop to start the half. Still a ball game for sure.

Sep 06, 2025 09:29 PM #131

Defense actually held them to a few field goals in some situations where a touchdown would have been crushing. Gonna need 35 to win though for sure.

Sep 06, 2025 09:33 PM #132

facemask?

Sep 06, 2025 09:33 PM #133

Facemask

Sep 06, 2025 09:35 PM #134

I don't expect Missouri guys to be smart but that was really dumb when you're running a guy out of bounds and grab his helmet like that.

Sep 06, 2025 09:38 PM #135

Good run

Sep 06, 2025 09:38 PM #136

OUt of bounds.

Sep 06, 2025 09:38 PM #137

Should be getting that play in ASAP

Sep 06, 2025 09:43 PM #139

Idk why we didn’t get up on the ball and roll there but 3 is okay. Let’s go defense

Sep 06, 2025 09:49 PM #140

Oh I hate these stupid penalties even when they're not a penalty!

Sep 06, 2025 09:51 PM #141

Self destruction

Sep 06, 2025 09:52 PM #142

How many offside Penalties

Sep 06, 2025 09:52 PM #143

We're getting good penetration in the backfield but once we get there the tackling and finishing of plays has been really really poor

Sep 06, 2025 09:53 PM #144

Another 3rd down. Lets go DDDD

Sep 06, 2025 09:54 PM #145

D is now gassed

Can’t tackle

Sep 06, 2025 09:55 PM #146

Daniels and company needs to have a long drive to get them some rest

Sep 06, 2025 09:57 PM #147

I feel like a long touchdown drive is a must right now

Sep 06, 2025 10:02 PM #148

Missouri has 424 yards to our 125 😳😳

Sep 06, 2025 10:04 PM #149

Is dawn davenport on Missouri's payroll?

Sep 06, 2025 10:05 PM #151

Omg had him twice JD

Sep 06, 2025 10:05 PM #152

@wissox turnover or at least a stop. Give up 7 and we may as well go start the bus

Sep 06, 2025 10:09 PM #153

Nagy smh have to let that go buddy.

Sep 06, 2025 10:10 PM #154

Well here we are deep in our on territory big game, this is where legends are made

Sep 06, 2025 10:10 PM #155

Should have let it go so the ball gets into the end zone?

Sep 06, 2025 10:13 PM #156

We can’t be conservative here.

Sep 06, 2025 10:13 PM #157

Catch that

Sep 06, 2025 10:15 PM #158

Jalon swings that ball all over the stadium when he's running

Sep 06, 2025 10:15 PM #159

I’m taunting here.

Sep 06, 2025 10:20 PM #164

I am not a fan of the plunger head guy.

Sep 06, 2025 10:20 PM #165

D up! TO time!

Sep 06, 2025 10:21 PM #166

Come defense need at least one more stop fellas

Sep 06, 2025 10:21 PM #167

There is a lot of time yet. Be aggressive on D.

Sep 06, 2025 10:28 PM #168

Jesus our 4th defense is the reason why it’s a game

Sep 06, 2025 10:29 PM #169

JD time....we hope

Sep 06, 2025 10:30 PM #170

Well for better or worse this will be decided in regulation

Sep 06, 2025 10:34 PM #171

This is where I wish our running game was working to run some clock on this drive on the way to scoring with 1 second left.

Sep 06, 2025 10:34 PM #172

Omg

Sep 06, 2025 10:34 PM #173

Hishaw is worthless in the backfield

Sep 06, 2025 10:34 PM #174

Henderson had it

Sep 06, 2025 10:34 PM #175

Oh crap...

Sep 06, 2025 10:35 PM #176

Gosh darn it

Sep 06, 2025 10:35 PM #177

Hishaw has been underwhelming so far this year.

Sep 06, 2025 10:35 PM #178

Done now

Sep 06, 2025 10:40 PM #179

Shouldn’t we have gone for it? I know they likely would’ve have scored again if we didn’t make it. But that was our only chance unless we get a TO. That would b a miracle

Sep 06, 2025 10:41 PM #180

@Crimsonorblue22 yeah not going for it seemed pretty wussy.

Sep 06, 2025 10:41 PM #181

That drop in retrospect cost us this game.

Sep 06, 2025 10:41 PM #182

I honestly have zero idea why you don’t going with how this defense has played from the second quarter on.

Sep 06, 2025 10:42 PM #183

Well, it was much closer than I thought it would be.

Sep 06, 2025 10:42 PM #184

Damn it this one hurts

Sep 06, 2025 10:42 PM #185

Wollp. I take full blame. Kansas looked like dog ass every minute i watched.

Sep 06, 2025 10:42 PM #186

I swear I hope we destroy their basketball team because what happened last year was unacceptable.

Sep 06, 2025 10:43 PM #187

+/- in the final 2 minutes is epically bad

Sep 06, 2025 10:43 PM #188

I just feel sick like I did after 6 of our 7 losses last season

Sep 06, 2025 10:44 PM #189

Even if you don't get it, a field goal doesn't hurt you in that situation. Zero reason to punt. Put your trust in your best unit

No protection

Sep 06, 2025 10:44 PM #191

@patoh3 Unfortunately, he's not really a lead back. Doesn't have close to the speed or shiftiness that Neal had...

Sep 06, 2025 10:45 PM #192

Pretty sure Mizzou only punted one time in the game.

Sep 06, 2025 10:45 PM #193

Sometimes it seems like we snatch losses from the jaws of victory.

Sep 06, 2025 10:46 PM #194

@bskeet having their kicker out may have benefited them

Sep 06, 2025 10:46 PM #195

That was fun

Sep 06, 2025 10:46 PM #196

@kjayhawks We absolutely have done that!

Sep 06, 2025 10:48 PM #197

This team is over reliant on Jalen Daniels.

Sep 06, 2025 10:48 PM #198

Missouri has lost two reviews today. Why are they getting another?

Sep 06, 2025 10:48 PM #199

Don’t you know? Home team gets as many as they want.

Sep 06, 2025 10:50 PM #200

Silly to not throw it 10 yards out of bounds for a 6th guy. JD was solid today but 2 turnovers were very costly

Sep 06, 2025 10:51 PM #201

Mizzou has almost 600 yards on offense - balanced between run and pass. Game really wasn't as close as the score indicated. Having said that, but for the dropped pass, the Hawks had a chance to steal one...

Sep 06, 2025 10:53 PM #202

@DCHawker ya the defense is as hot butter much of the day. We fought and gave ourselves a good chance for 3.5 quarters just got beat by a better team. We need to spend this off week working in tackling

Sep 06, 2025 10:54 PM #203

MO received 2 more points on the safety that should not have happened.

Sep 06, 2025 10:54 PM #204

Take a weak off, regroup, West Virginia comes calling in two weeks. Get the record to 2-1...please.

Sep 06, 2025 10:55 PM #205

@wissox 3-1?

Sep 06, 2025 10:58 PM #206

Bad weekend, chiefs and KU!

Sep 06, 2025 10:59 PM #207

Some thoughts I will get off my chest:

  1. Our fourth quarter demons are still alive and well.
  2. Our fourth down defense demons are as strong as ever
  3. We will never have a truly great season if we can't win the occasional close game
  4. We came in with a better game-plan than misery which is why we stayed in the game
  5. That safety (a play in which the refs allowed misery to cheat) was a horrendous missed call. I don't think we deserved the win anyways but missing a call on a play that impactful is unacceptable.
  6. Even worse, was the decision to punt on 4th and 7. In what world did we have a better chance of stopping the misery offense we had not stopped all game long than we did of converting on a 4th and 7. Leipold and the staff deserve a lot of leeway for what they've done for our program, but that was one of the worst coaching decisions I have ever seen. Maybe we need to hire an assistant coach whose job it is to analyze 3rd and 4th down decisions.
  7. The difference in athleticism was on display in this game.
  8. That misery quarterback is elite. Every single throw he made was perfect. Penn State was stupid for not starting him over Drew Allar, who is mediocre.
    edit:
  9. We have to be able to hang onto a lead.

Yeah. Good to keep it in perspective.

Would never want a home loss,, but hard not to wish we had gone from 1-1 to 2-1 this time rather than going from 2-0 to 2-1.

Sep 06, 2025 11:11 PM #211

I have to agree, I think Lance electing to kick the ball on fourth and seven was the first time have to question his decision .What the hell are w doing kicking the ball on fourth and seven when we haven't stopped Missouri all day and yet we punt- - -- -terrible call.

I think this game showed us our defense has a lot of work to do , we are a very average team if our RB'S can't do any better sheesh..

Sep 06, 2025 11:18 PM #212

@Jhawk69 this guy didn't even start last week, the other qb started and got hurt. They were gonna switch at half. Dinky couldn't decide on a starter.

Sep 06, 2025 11:32 PM #213

This game was lost in 2nd quarter when MO pretty much held the ball

Sep 06, 2025 11:45 PM #214

@Crimsonorblue22 That is on the misery coaching staff for not properly evaluating their QB room. He is elite and should have been named the starter from the get-go.

Sep 07, 2025 12:07 AM #215

The punt call was absolutely indefensible. You haven't gotten a stop all day and you give them the ball back with under 3 minutes left? That was so damn ridiculous, but has unfortunately become a pattern under Leipold. His has always been way too conservative in his game management and that absolutely comes from his first head coaching job being at a powerhouse program where that mindset was the right mentality most of the time. He has never developed a risk taking approach and that has been on display over his few years here. The decision in the 3rd quarter to kick a FG instead of going for it on the road isn't an aggressive mindset, it's a conservative one that has now cost KU several games.over the years.

Also with the defense, why were our corners playing so deep even in short yardage situations? That allowed Missouri to dink and dunk and control the clock all game long.

Even if KU goes 10-2, wins the Big 12 and makes the playoffs, if that second loss is to KSU, this season is still going to feel like a disappointment since we haven't beaten either team since 2008 when I was still a student at KU.

Sep 07, 2025 01:24 AM #216

It hurts because it’s been the simplest of plays that have killed the last few minutes of half’s today and last season. Catch the football, hold on to the football, throw the football to your team and tackle the guy that’s right in front of you. We literally could be 15-1 it the last 16 games by making simple plays that D1 power 4 guys make routinely every single week. I’m glad we have the off week to refocus but WV at home is a must win for bowl eligibility

Sep 07, 2025 01:33 AM #217

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, I was not too keen on the punt. Ironically their lack of a kicker may have hurt us because several times (I think) they went for it on 4th when they would have kicked a FG instead and those plays kept drives alive instead of resulting in only 3 points on made FGs.

Sep 07, 2025 02:16 AM #218

@wissox ya that 4th and 10 from the 28 prob isn’t even attempted with their kicker available. A few others are borderline.

Sep 07, 2025 02:18 AM #219

Nice to see KSU get the loss they deserve, the question on X is if LL drops the KSU game does his seat get hot? I think if we reach a bowl game it does not. Miss a bowl with his stadium demands and the money Booth has just thrown in the program. Then the seat gets warm.

Sep 07, 2025 02:41 AM #220

@Jhawk69 he looks elite when playing us. We'll see about the rest of the season

Sep 07, 2025 04:56 AM #221

I was screaming at the tv on that stupid punt. Mizzou was moving the ball with ease and giving it back to them was the end. And what a message he sends to his offense... he doesn't trust their execution on big plays. @Texas-Hawk-10 called it right... indefensible!

Sep 07, 2025 05:27 AM #222

Honestly it didn't even cross my mind that they might punt. After the Henderson drop I just assumed they would keep the offense on the field.

Sep 07, 2025 02:20 PM #223

We gave up.

Sep 07, 2025 03:25 PM #224

KU was fortunate to be in the game, based on yardage. I'm sure that's been said alot already but it was baffling

Sep 07, 2025 03:30 PM #225

Thinking this morning, Mizzou just maybe a ready good football team going forward. Not sure I could name 10 teams that go into Columbia and are favored right now. Fresno beat Oregon State by 2 scores last night and we spanked them. The conference continues to look wide open after yesterday’s disappointing non-conference showing. Iowa state maybe the only clear favorite at this point in the season. WV our next opponent was just beat by Ohio 17-10. We have a lot of winnable games left on the schedule. We must reset and refocus this off week and get ready fro the meat of our schedule.

Sep 07, 2025 04:23 PM #226

Not sure how good Oregon state is and remains to be seen where Missouri stacks up. Their QB was impressive at key moments and made few mistakes.

Historically they are somewhere in the middle of the SEC. Never in the top 25% and rarely in the bottom 25%. Did we lose to a team that is exceptionally good or another mid SEC team?

The rest of season awaits, including the entire conference. Plenty of opportunities in front. But improvement needs to be urgent and immediate. And BOTH sides — offense and defense — have equal need to improve.

Sep 07, 2025 05:49 PM #227

College football is stupid. You can challenge all sorts of things that benefit Missouri, 3 times last night in fact, but when a fumble is batted into the endzone and refs miss it it can't be reviewed. If they saw the batted ball, not sure how that would have been placed. Would we have been awarded possession somewhere? If Missouri had been awarded possession they almost certainly would have scored a TD instead of just the 2 points from the safety so maybe it benefited us if MU gets the ball instead?

Sep 07, 2025 05:53 PM #228

@wissox Not sure - in the last Chiefs game McConkey intentionally swapped a fumble out of bounds - it was a 10 yard penalty. If it was batted into the end zone I’m guessing it’s a safety.

Sep 07, 2025 05:59 PM #229

@dylans we recovered it so not a chance they would gain possession, we like get it back from the illegal touching point plus 10 yards. The pick play in the end zone on 4th down was also a huge miss by the refs

Sep 07, 2025 06:10 PM #230

@kjayhawks Yes, so we gain a first down maybe and they have no points and maybe regain some momentum. Big missed call.

Sep 07, 2025 07:47 PM #231

@BShark if that game was in Lawrence we win by 2 td's. It's Black and White

Sep 07, 2025 08:18 PM #232

A few years back when we were one of the worst football teams in D1 we weren't highly critical towards the coaching. Now, fan expectation is to WIN GAMES! What comes with that is a more critical perspective on the coaching. I'm a big fan of Lance... still... he made a monster error in the late punt and has to be called out on it. If he keeps that mentality, to that degree, we will remain very limited on how many games we can win!

Sep 07, 2025 08:24 PM #233

If they fail the 4th down conversion, Lance is a failure for not trusting the defense. If he punts, Lance is a failure for not trusting the offense. If they go for it and get it, Lance is a genius. 🤷‍♂️

Sep 07, 2025 09:13 PM #234

@dylans i dont think anyone here would blame him for going for it. It was the right choice.

Fresno got a field goal to go up 2 with 30 seconds left and then a pick 6 to create that margin. They did not dominate Oregon St. at all.

I also can't say anything about ISU being a clear favorite when their two FBS wins are 3 point wins over teams two teams who right now look like they will finish in the bottom half of their conferences. They have not been dominant at all.

Texas Tech and Utah have looked like the two best teams so far to me, but I also fully acknowledge neither team has played anybody good yet, but Utah did at least play a P4 team on the road and dog walked UCLA. I think now that Whittingham has moved past Cam Rising at QB, they're going to be back to being really good.

Sep 07, 2025 09:23 PM #236

@drgnslayr KU has a loser mentality in football. It appears it's happening to LL by osmosis. You can bet your butt he didn't win 47 National Championships up north (it was 47, right? A buttload anyway) by punting on short 4th down situations. He maybe didn't even have a punter. It's a catch 22. You can't be a winner with a loser's mindset and you can't get rid of the loser's mindset unless you win.
Come on November 3rd.

I ~~didn’t~~ never watch the KU football game. But reading this it is 100% stereotypical fan reactions.

The Chiefs fan site is hilariously stereotypical following their loss as well. (I did watch that shit show.) - it’s the refs - with numerous examples. It’s Spags - with numerous examples of the defense not being ready. It’s Reid - with numerous examples of the offense not performing except in dink and dunk passes. Kelce - too old. Mahomes - too many commercials. Etc.

I’d just say the Chargers came ready to play and whooped the Chiefs. That the Chiefs didn’t come ready to play and it cost them a game. The Chiefs should get better when their top two receivers get back. Spags defense takes times to coalesce- usually around 4-5 games to come together.

Fans gonna fan

Sep 08, 2025 12:49 AM #238

I didn’t love the late punt but honestly it probably didn’t matter at all. The analytics say it’s about a wash either way. We also should’ve never been in that situation. The Henderson drop was brutal. We get that first and are cooking with gas.

Big picture, we’re fine. To me we look like a 8-9 win team. With a few lucky bounces we can play in Arlington. Not because we’re elite (we’re clearly not) but the rest of the league looks very mediocre. 7-2 gets us there and is doable.

Now that we’ve seen us for 3 straight weeks it’s the perfect time for a bye. Get healthy, especially at LB. You can almost do a mini fall camp and do some extra fundamental work. Lance’s teams always come out of byes very strong and we have 3 straight very winnable games coming up. There’s a good chance we’re sitting here in 4 weeks 5-1 and headed into our second bye 8-2 or 7-3.

Sep 08, 2025 03:32 AM #239

@Texas-Hawk-10 Fair points, I just saw the box score on Fresno game. I keep forgetting Utah is in the conference now lol

Sep 08, 2025 03:47 AM #240

@wissox They got the safety and then scored a TD on the next possession from the punt after the safety. That is a 9 point swing based upon a missed call. Now they probably would have scored another TD the next possession regardless, but we will never know. JD’s throws seemed to be off as well most of the game. Henderson had a couple of missed catches that would have helped tremendously. The offsides penalties were aggravating. I was always told to watch the ball and not the QB.

Sep 08, 2025 01:53 PM #241

@patoh3 yes Henderson has the big drop but JD over threw him on two walk-in TDs at one point as well. Thats was the knock on JD when Bean was here, Beans long ball was better.

Sep 08, 2025 04:32 PM #242

@dylans I understand the argument you are making but I really don't think many people would be upset with Lance for going for that 4th down in that situation.

Sep 09, 2025 10:15 PM #243

On 4th down I felt it came down to Lance feeling more faith in our defense over our offense. All Mizzou needed was like one first down to ice the game and they were already smelling victory, at home! If we were the Philadelphia Eagles, I might have trusted my defense in that scenario... actually... no I wouldn't. On offense, we needed 7 yards to keep the drive alive. One successful play and we are in the game to win. On defense... Mizzou would have had several downs to ice the game with another first down. This is math.

Sep 09, 2025 11:36 PM #244

@drgnslayr Pretty interesting to put a lot of faith in our defense at this point.

Sep 10, 2025 01:11 AM #245

The football in the Big12 has gone from pretty dang solid to mid-major level, so maybe KU can finish above .500.

Sep 10, 2025 01:46 AM #246

@dylans the conference doesn’t look good at all to me at this point. You have Tech, Utah and ISU. But im not sold on any of those tan right now. Whomever makes the playoffs likely gets smoked first game they play.

Sep 11, 2025 04:02 AM #247

@kjayhawks We don't have any legacy football teams left once OU and Texas left. We are now a certified blue collar league.

Sep 11, 2025 12:24 PM #248

I’m afraid that’s so @kjayhawks
