Darryn confirmed out again. At least we know in advance this time. I was offered a ticket to the game and won't be going now.
Is this guy named Lebron?
Stinks I was considering going my myself with how cheap tickets looked. This is starting to take a very interesting turn here. Self said he hasnāt practiced this week at all and is still tight. Is he just gonna play in the high profile games and sit the rest of the time? Two weeks in and the season seems Fād already
I was already expecting this. I'm not down on DP or the coaches. People think whatever they want to think but the truth is he is a very valuable player and we should be cautious.
I am yet to meet DP, but everything I know of him says he isn't the type of guy who thinks he's too good to play in any game. It's not his style. He's a competitor and legit guy.
@drgnslayr lots of rumors flying around right now, which is normal when stuff like this happens. Hearing his team is saying itās not worth it for him to play in these type of games.
Who cares if he does sit in meaningless games?
Lets be honest, we have a roster full of guys that want to play and can win games for us, more minutes for everyone else, great!
We dont need things to look like a fairy tale, our goal is to win another championship!
If he's hurt, then sit.
I think we're all just showing concern with his odd ball level of hurt, and if it's serious enough to keep him out awhile. Cramps aren't normal to keep you out games. Hamstring tightness is somewhat normal, but add em up and there's concern.
Just watched the Self presser...he did say they don't think it's a long term concern. fingers crossed.
We all should be concerned that the "star player" of the team making millions has only played 1 full game out of 5 (soon to be 6).
There's a lot more to say but frankly it's not worth my time. I'll root for the players that actually play. Hopefully he will be back soon.
ya your right lots of rumors, go figure it's KU . -being saif his camp/ his trainers oe whatevr might have telling Coach rgat they agreed for him to dome to KU play in the har games but wouldn't take the chance of him playing in meaningless games,
My question statement would be kinfa weird hadn't anything before he came to KU about any kinda of problems dealing with cramps or leg issues- - --hmmmm.
Watched him play several times before he committed, sure didn t' miss anytime then again hmmmm
@BeddieKU23 if we consider value entirely correlated to cost, then DP playing one our of six games feels very unsettling. On the other hand, maybe once the roster has been set and the season is rolling, maybe that is where the monetary valuation crosses the finish line, money was spent to assemble a recruiting class.
- When one of the first dominoes to fall is the biggest, the others fall with it. That is value.
- When he wins showcase games, that is value
- of course when he wins tournament games that is value
- when he represents Kansas as a succesful pro, that is value
However, during the season, every player on this team should be evaluated for how much they contribute to this seasons success and maybe also our enjoyment as fans.
I suggest we put the money out of our minds for a bit. Its there, but the more we the fans, players and staff can watch play and coach for the love of basketball, the better off we will be.
Of course DP will protect the goods. His value is different from others who may burn brightest at KU, or may find tremendous growth here, or may bleed crimson and blue
There is room for both kinds of players and value in both.
Rock Chalk!
I guess I'm wondering who makes the call on DP? Is this a medical issue that doctors cannot fix? Is it a medical issue that can be fixed but he would need surgery and done for most or all of the year? Is it a nagging injury that limiting his court time is all that can be done until he gets better or not? It's serious enough to do without his developing along with the team meaning if he only plays in 20 games will there be chemistry problems? Right now it seems to be a day to day thing and he is so special it appears to be magnified.
At least Disney and Youtube tv have kissed and made up.
@BeddieKU23 100% true my friend, make a guy wonder if we didnāt pay the wrong recruit. Maybe he can be this teams Remy Martin
Glad we arent getting paid to be fans so nobody will judge how good of fans we are.
@approxinfinity hahahahaha. You all suck as fans!!!! ;)
Are we on any Television network's today ?
Nope, ESPN+
Wow this is a spectacularly bad broadcast so far.
Kohl Cash
LOL Self TO already.
We stinks without DP
Oh my we are bad bad
Evers! How pissed is HCBS?
You know Self is pissed when Evers is playing real minutes in a game.
McDowell exposed by Princeton.
Effort guys. Effort.
Make a damn bunny!
Council is awful
@BeddieKU23 Today he looks like he's not focused.
Flory is invisible out there it seems.
We are dog doo-doo today.
Defenses already playing us the same as always. Dont have to guard the point guard cause he cant shoot and doesn't have vision
Maybe that will wake them up
This is a team that will make you earn your points in the half court. We don't know how to do that yet.
Same Princeton team that was blown out by Akron
6 footer forces 7 footer (or so) Flory into a TO.
LOL, brick city from 3.
Downers Grove, IL, town where I grew up.
Look like a bubble team at best
Flory with a few good baskets
Wow that was nice
Where has Bidunga been?
Nice to finally get a Flory Flurry!
Jeesh Flory
Flory showcase
Man, when you can play like that you GOTTA play like that ALL the time.
Flory heard you guys insulting him. Made him mad.
He has been impressive on defense as well. He can guard all 5 positions
Hey all of our transfers please remember or at least look like you know how to hoop.
Is DP on the bench?
Flory couldn' find his uni for like the first sight minutes of the game , so he missed those first eight and THEN he did and well -- - - well we all saw what happened when he did lol
@BeddieKU23 Agree. without Darryn this is a very , very average team .If Darryn doesn't play Tuesday-- we lose pushing thirty. You thought the NC game was ugly- --Well guess what
Jaden 3 pts, 2 rb, 1 asst. Not too bad.
Vintage KU
Freshman playing like Freshman
Council sure likes to hear the ball pound. Very disappointing from him today
What is painfully clear 4 games in is that with DP, KU can be competitive against good teams. Without him, we are no better than middle of the B12. The portal guys are at best meh... The narrative was to go after guys who were good fits. But the sad fact is that they are just not that talented, certainly compared to transfers at other top 20 teams. Thought we would at least be really good defensively, if offensively challenged, but that hasn't been the case. We simply don't make other teams uncomfortable. The Tigers are having no issue running their offense...
Brick brick brick from the FT line.
Nice one from Dawson. Need that from him
@Crimsonorblue22 I remember he was in DG.
Flory!
Council with 6 assists so far. 8 points. Should have about 16 points. He gets to the rim easily. Sets up the oops.
Tre White with a good game
Tre White getting his groove today.
Council and Elmarko are complete non shooters. Hard to believe
Flory could have caught that shot instead of swatting it to the Kaw
Bidunga really stepped up and saved this game on both ends. Great energy and confidence finishing plays
Starting to look like the only one who can stop Bidunga is Bidunga.

He surprised me a few times today
We're 20-31 on 2pt attempts - scoring in the paint consistently. Alas, just 4-18 on 3pt attempts - most of which don't look close to going in...
Wow, AM was losing 30-3 and came back keeping their undefeated season going. Now back to Jayhawks.
I wish I was typing and not looking on that Calderon 3. Then I wouldn't have had to see it. U G L Y
5 star Elmarko gets ball stripped from him by an ivy leaguer in front of the KU bench.
Don't watch the last 5 minutes. Sheesh.
He's close to the worst guard that's played here. Stats would agree too. Needs to go down a level

Got 19 minutes on the court today - 2pts on 1-7 from the floor; 0-4 from 3. Zero assists.
Question , how long has it been since we have had a guy that will attack and draw fouls ?-- Well we got one now. Tre White is doing really we this season, I think he got what !3 attempts today ? Really solid game-- --nothing flashy just good ball. Think he scored like 16 points and what 8 rebounds ?- -I take those numbers every ay

Agree. He was brutal today.
Another good defensive job.
@BeddieKU23 said in Princeton:
Council and Elmarko are complete non shooters. Hard to believe
They're better drivers than shooters. Elmarko still can't play off ball which was his issue as a freshman. He's looked a bit better when he's running the second unit with the ball in his hands. Elmarko needs to watch film on Stephen Curry to see how to play without the ball in his hands. Obviously he'll never be the shooter Curry is, but Curry is the greatest off ball player in NBA history and there's a lot to learn from studying him.
With Council, it appears he's still adjusting to the speed of P5 basketball. I think he'll be fine long term here. He's never been a great shooter and that's not going to change, but he's always been aggressive in driving the ball and getting to the line and putting pressure on opposing defenses.
There's obviously still tinkering going on with rotations and line ups and learning to play without Peterson which is going to be huge in the long run for KU in March.
We'll see what Peterson's status is for Tuesday, but I'm fulling expecting him to play and show out against fellow #1 pick contender Cam Boozer because I think this is more load management and protecting the goods more than anything else with him. If Peterson doesn't play Tuesday though, that's going be a red flag that his hamstring issue is more serious than the staff is portraying it to be at the moment.
Overall, this was a nice win against a team with a good shot at making the NCAA Tournament where we saw this team working through stuff in real time and figuring some stuff out.
It looks like McDowell has been cut from the rotation.
I continue to believe that Ngala needs real minutes.
We have the pieces to have a good season, but DP must start playing.
Duke will probably blow us out. No Peterson hurts. We need to not get discouraged when that happens.
I went fishing today. Got skunked, as usual. But I feel my blood pressure is much better off because of it.
The game went about how I figured it would. Flory needs to play hard all the time not just in little spurts. Is Elmarko Jackson the worst 5 star player in recorded history? How the hell was he a top 20 recruit. He showed flashes as a freshman but good god he looks lost as a player can be on both ends.
Flory Bidunga Highlights vs. Princeton (25 Pts, 10 Rebs, 3 Blks)
Tre stepped up and Council ran things pretty well. Our three point shooting was crappy and Elmarko was 1/7 from the field but he's a bigger guard with quickness and hops who plays befuddled for some reason. I thought Jamari would snap out of it but no. Tiller is going to get a lot of playing time and he needs that along with some serious coaching and we need that size he gives us on the boards and his shooting has become really important. Jayden Dawson please make a big leap because you are a shooter.
At least we have athletes this year. Scrappy bunch. Iām honestly looking forward to watching this team all year win or not
The starters were all above 20 pts , and Dawson with 24
Good stuff from Flory, Melvin, Tre, Bryson, Kohl and Jayden. Good team effort.
Pretty happy with what i saw. We scrapped, we figured it out, we had a breakout performance from Bidunga. Lots of contributions from other guys. We got to the line. He had a variety of scoring. We got to the deep bench snd would have won by 20.
All things we sucked at last year.
Not something i'd normally comment on, but i thought Nick Bahe was very informative today as the color guy on TV.
He really did a great job of explaining the ins and outs of how the KU guys needed to play defense against Princeton. He was in the weeds about guarding the 3 pt line and backdoor cuts and I loved it! nicely done.
He also wasn't shy about saying our guards need to step up and make some outside shots for us to be successful.
Best game i recall from him on the mic.
Tre White with a nice interview after.
@approxinfinity I like the lil guy at the end.
@rockchalkjayhawk I really like Nick.
@rockchalkjayhawk I agree as well on Nick Bahe. Usually I have the volume practically off a few minutes into a game, but he was absolutely great and a breath of fresh air today.
My favorite play of the game was Council Jr and Elmarko on the break with Jr. throwing him the lob for the dunk. Reminded me of Tyshawn and Elijah Johnson back in 2012. It was also the only play of the day where Elmarko rose up above his weird slow ass lackluster braindead effort, so I'm going to give my man Council some credit for sparking that out of him.
Three point doldrums can be contagious so hopefully someone gets their groove. Good grief, there were wide open air balls.
Otherwise, I like this team even without mr superstar who is 1-1 at this point.
Ngala seems to be a better player than Mari and Elmarko at this point wish he would get a few more minutes.
@kjayhawks said in Princeton:

Besides physical attributes my only complaint with him is he doesnāt just play a role. If he would only shoot wide open threes, iniate the offense when necessary and otherwise pass the ball basically the rest of the time there would definitely be a role for him
bill's a legend but his messaging around the whole DP thing has been terrible

Correct
I learned many years ago that press conference fodder is mostly just bait and something coaches have to do per their contract. Reading much into it is just a waste of time.
@FarmerJayhawk listened to post game and it sounds like Dp is unlikely to play Tuesday. I honestly think the only reason they left us ranked is so itās a feather in Dooks cap. Unfortunately I donāt give us much of chance, 25+ point loss without DP and a 15 point loss with him. We are athletic but dint know how to play basketball, Dook can do both.
News here at 10 said no DP tues. Is Coach calling the shots?
Id agree with you that the press conference isnāt a big deal but most of the fanbase is gonna take a dump on DP and not think rationally because bill keeps changing the story and making it weird and vague

Myself and my boys went fishing as well. A 1pm game on a Saturday this early in the season - priorities. Donāt want to waste a Saturday afternoon in front of the boob tube.
Gotta love ESPN+ (or not) replay was easily available to watch in the evening. Another boring game though.

If he's missing the Duke game, there's a legit issue with his hamstring going on. If it was just Self and DP doing load management, DP wouldn't skip playing against fellow #1 pick contender Cam Boozer. That would be a showcase game for him not to skip.
I haven't seen anything official yet but I suspect he will be out another 2-3 weeks
Good grief. Can't help but wonder if NIL contracts tied payments to games played there would be a little more care given to warm up without injury and play through things.
@rockchalkjayhawk
Whoops .. I was very excited and nearsighted apparently
Does Vaughn have any eligibility left? š
Well Bill sure didn't sound encouraging on Darryn , & listening to the pod cast of field of 68 after dark. Bill said he not going to put out till the pain is gone--- -not taking that risk, might be sitting till Big Twelve play.
They had a former plyer cant remember this kids name but he said when he played there wasn't as many people involved with the decision , it was just The Coaching staff and medical- -now you have hose plus their agents & others
They also said at first they thought it was cramps but now for sure hamstring just now sure sounds we gonna be without him for some time. We gonna take some real beatings , but hey for Darryn for sure has to do what's best for Darryn future. They were talking about if he returns to early you have to look at his usage % rate in the time he has played his % rate is like the comparison of Harden when he was playing at Houston wouldn't be good.
Now I know this really sucks for our own selfish reasons as fans it sucks bad but, from Darryn's stand point from Darryn's perspective we are talking about his future. He comes back to soon and makes things worse could be real problem for him.- --Tis game as we know it is Darryn future job. just like anybody else. Say your a Dr- --lawyer- - - -some kind of specialist --- - - -your getting paid- --same with Darryn playing NBA ball it's going to be his job we have to realize that , you can't blame them for being careful with him
@rockchalkjayhawk
Whoops .. I was very excited and nearsighted apparently
Iād settle for 20+ points per starter every night!

Ha, but if weāre all seemingly in the mood to dump on players past and presentā¦Jacque couldnāt shoot either.
pretty much only made that one very special shot his entire KU career! (He says in jest with much love and respect for JV!)
Hope DP gets healthy and his handles let him play. Either way heās gone at the end of the year, Iād like to see him play a bit before he drops off my radar.
