So KU has a game today... and tomorrow.. and Wednesday apparently.
Notre Dame, Syracuse then, who knows ? Who we play on Wednesday depends on:
Each team will play three guaranteed games. Following the conclusion of each team's second game, the win-loss records will determine who makes a trip to the championship game or the third-place game on Nov. 26. Teams that don't make the championship or third-place games will play in consolation games.
Championship game is scheduled for 9:30 EST Wednesday night. 3rd place game before that. Console games are mostly Wednesday but potential for Turkey Day as well.
I see KU gets $1 million in NIL for playing. I wonder how much of that is going to Peterson who won't even play. Only sort of kidding there. As I was writing this, I saw the Big-12 entered into some agreement today with this tournament going forward, ensuring 8 automatic spots for Big-12 teams. Can't be a bad thing besides having to play teams in the Big-12 even more. Not sure that's smartly planned out but who cares the schools getting a fat check.
Feels like we majorly lucked out on opponent in both known games. Here's a list of teams in it. A good portion of these teams would beat KU if we played them without Peterson. Some of them probably even with.
Alabama
Auburn
Baylor
Creighton
Gonzaga
Houston
Iowa State
Kansas
Maryland
Michigan
Notre Dame
Oregon
Rutgers
San Diego State
St. John's
Syracuse
UNLV
Tennessee
No idea what to expect today. Notre Dame is ranked #73 via Kenpom. Burton is an All-ACC guard in his 3rd season. He has led them in 4 of 5 games scoring. They lost by 1 to Ohio St, otherwise they have beaten no one. They shoot 40% from 3, just a few more makes on same volume as KU, so they don't seem to live and die by the perimeter. Carson Towt has been a dominate rebounder so far (4th nationally at 12.5 a game).
This looks like a game that KU is just going to have to enforce their athletic advantage. ND only has 6 blocked shots so far in 5 games so it would seem we can exploit them at the rim. They are a very young team as well. Looks like they have played a lot of guys (11 at 8mpg or more) so far.
Seems like a winnable game today but I doubt it will be easy. We have to prove we can beat someone with a pulse first. Tomorrow is harder, Cuse is #61 on Kenpom with similar ranked offense. Another winnable game but will the guys have enough in the tank with our depth issues already popping up. Going to be interesting to see how these guys survive 3 games in 3 days.
