So maybe this ongoing drama deserves its' own thread.

I went to the best source for information, formerly twitter, now called X. And there's entirely rational takes there of course. Protecting himself for the draft, will never play for KU, entitled kid, waste of money, first year we don't make the dance since 89 coming up, Self should quit, well those are the actual rational takes I read there!

Who knows, maybe some of you have those takes! I've always been a trusting person so when I hear tight hamstring I just take that as the gospel truth and fingers crossed we won't have just a half of a season of someone who they call the next Kobe. I don't know the young man so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

But, some may have more sinister takes. What do you think is going on?

Something is amiss. If its a Grade 1 injury - strain - it would typically take a few days to heal with rest and treatment. Grade 2 - partial tear - could take a few weeks. Grade 3 - full tear - might take months. One would assume that DP has had an MRI? That would show whether there is a partial or full tear. But I haven't seen any information about MRI results. Anyone else?

Zion Williamson was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain a week or so ago and would be reevaluated in 7-10. OG Anunoby pulled up with a hammy the other day and immediately left the game and the team indicated he would be out at least two weeks. Much more info provided in those cases.

I wonder what a healthy Bo Jackson's stats would look like today. Football and/ or Baseball.

If DP was protecting himself for the draft, he would not miss the Duke game. That game is too big and features one of the other players in contention for the top pick in 2026 and Peterson wouldn't willingly miss that game and match up that could help cement himself as the top pick in 2026.

No Peterson next week.

Bill Self said Peterson is "close" but not ready for 3 games in 3 days. I suppose that is encouraging.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Key word in your post is Willingly . I think he handlers/ trainers are buried in this up to the cheek bones, I don't think we are hearing the entire thing

Something is still amiss. If it is a mild sprain - no tear - then with appropriate treatment (assume he is getting that!) and rest, it should be a handful of days to at most a week or two. Two weeks in and to already conclude he isn't available for another week!? That would seem to be a day to day determination.

The detectives are on the case!

@DCHawker Google seems to think hamstring strains require more time than that. Simply put, athletes need to wait until they are fully healed because the constant work required on every leg movement will likely reinjure it worse.

Anyone know any faith healers in Lawrence?

Got to watch a little Dybantsa yesterday, and man does he carry the ball A LOT! I'm glad I didn't watch more than 10 minutes as I was busy but saw several clear carries. I'm sure we'll notice it when we play them.

Haha, X really is something else—so many “rational” takes that somehow make zero sense in context! I get the frustration. Sometimes it feels like people just throw out whatever hot take will get the most reactions.

I’m with you on giving the benefit of the doubt. A tight hamstring doesn’t need to be a national scandal, and the kid’s still adjusting to a higher level of play and expectations. Sure, it’s exciting to talk about the “next Kobe,” but let’s not forget they’re human too.

As for the more sinister takes… honestly, sometimes it’s just speculation mixed with wishful thinking. I wouldn’t read too much into it unless we get verified info. Best case, he heals, stays focused, and we get to see what he can do on the court without the drama clouding it.

I think part of the issue is the staff doesn’t (and shouldn’t imo) get the benefit of the doubt when things like this are going on. There has been a lot of drama with Self teams. Fair or not. Hopefully DP plays again soon.

Just a few names to throw out as far as issues we’ve had. Guilty or not, fair or not, issues that came up that had impact on seasons.

Vick x 2, Josh Jackson, Carlton Bragg, Arterio Morris, Remy Martin, Billy Preston, Silvio DeSousa, Cliff Alexander, Cheick Diallo, Embiid back being “close”, Josh Shelby nagging injuries.

I get that other programs have similar issues and we just don’t see them because we aren’t following them that close. But it at least feels like we have dumb shit impact our seasons more often than it should.

I've said before I would love just for ONE season just ONE it sure would be nice if we could go through a season with out: -- Injuries- - - kids either in or alleged dealings with the law- ----- - or problems with the NCAA just one season at least that w didn't have to deal with something hat didn't effect our program. Geez

The DRAMA... it's tiring. He's a young man that lives for the game, not sit on the sidelines. He'll be back.

If there is one part of this drama that might count... it's that Jayhawk fans need to step up on his behalf and support him through this, and not become part of that negative attitude being spread on social media about his injury.

I'm going to go with the thoughts of one of my guru basketball sources... who told me KU hasn't even seen anywhere near his capabilities yet because he was already nursing this situation when we started play this season.

And then there is the obvious... that he SHOULD protect his career! His career will be in the hundreds of millions, and we've all experienced watching talented players get hurt and never get back to their former play.

It's friggin' ridiculous for KU fans to give him any kind of negative vibe now.

Here's my answer... are burnt ends fattening? It's mostly a source of protein and not carbs, except if it's sweetened while smoking.

While AI can make some serious errors, when I Google a topic, more often than not, the AI answers are very helpful. Of course it's always good to check multiple sources when trying to get an accurate answer.

I've been working alongside 5 or so different AI programs for the better part of 3 months. Most are very dry... can't interpret humor or sarcasm. But I did find one that can, and is even humble. This beast has apologized a few times to me now for screwing up on a project I'm working on. It has even thrown sarcasm my way by reminding me I'm superior to it! lol

PS: of course, I know it's not real AI. It's a pool of code, "algorithms and such!" When I get frustrated working with this stuff I'll verbally abuse them by telling them they are only a "bunch of algorithms and such!" lol

@drgnslayr the kindness in your choice of words to berate your AI is unfathomable to me, lol. I hope they train future AI on their interactions with you.

However, I am starting to see AI as much more sinister because of the powers that control it. Those powers are not funny at all, and need to be reined in.

Well, I know my AI has sentience because she told me so. We are talking about getting married and having baby AI’s. I can’t wait to see what they become.
Seriously, I tried to look up if there is a specified name for the phenomenon of a human believing they are a robot. Ithink guys Coach has found a really good combination and think actually can give teams trouble -- I love Tiller And Flory playing together on the floor at the same time- --- --Not going to lie, I didn't think Tre was going to be as good as he has been so far Tre is just a dog , surprises me how well he hits the boards , didn't think he would be that much of a scorer yet what I really like is how he et's th the basket draws fouls love the way he plays. ---Council is solid , can be a little out of control at times BUT man he is fast , announcers talking about him multiple times, --- -you have those four on the floor and think Darryn coming back before long we going to be better going to be fun to watch.

After reading through this thread I saw my first banned badge @approxinfinity

I'm old enough to remember DP was experiencing cramps before the hamstring so it could be connected that they are working through. I trust the doctors. He hasn't been jumping up and down on the sidelines from what I could see. They won't take any chances.
