Baltimore Beat Down
Sep 27, 2020 03:10 PM #1

Well, at least this is one heck of an early season game to watch in prime time. The Chiefs won last year 33-28, but it wasn't that close. Baltimore scored 15 4th Q points to make it look like a game. Lamar Jackson was off going 22/43 for 267 and 0 TDs. Mahomes was on like Donkey Kong: 27/37, 374 yds, 3TDs.

ESPN has the Ravens favored by 3.5, but I could see either team getting hot and winning by 3 TDs. Ergo, the ambiquous topic title. I'm just curious if the Chiefs defense will show up and find a way to slow down Jackson.

Sep 27, 2020 03:17 PM #2

@stoptheflop got any hurt guys back?

Sep 27, 2020 03:44 PM #3

@Crimsonorblue22 I always rely on folks like @Kcmatt7 and several others who know more about the individual players. It's one of the main reasons I like checking this board. How do you see tomorrow's game going? Jeez, Jackson leads the Ravens in rushing and is completing almost 80% of his passes so far. That's why I'll be curious if the Chief's defense comes loaded for bird tomorrow.

Sep 27, 2020 04:55 PM #4

The Chiefs face Lamar Jackson, then next week Scam Newton. So our coaching staff and defense will have to prepare to stop the QB two weeks in a row. That's probably to the Chiefs' advantage to play back to back mobile QBs.

Sep 27, 2020 05:36 PM #5

Watkins probably out, concussion, that hit, questionable🤬. good news! pennell back on DLine.

Sep 27, 2020 05:37 PM #6

Okafor is out. Ward, Watkins and Dorian and questionable although Watkins did practice so I believe he will play.
If Chiefs can take 2 TDs lead early and make Ravens get into throwing mode then I like Chiefs chances, otherwise, Ravens will run Chiefs into the ground.

Sep 27, 2020 05:45 PM #7

I've said , or asked others - -how are you going to beat the Chiefs? - -how you gonna do it, and they are not even my favorite team - but seriously the only way I see anyone beating them is your gonna just to out score them.

I mean really with all the weapons KC has - who as an opponent you gonna try and take out of the game? - -You Double Kelsie - -then you got Hill , Watkins , and others - -same goes for the other guys you can't double - -you got to play straight up - - then you in trouble. - -now they had a solid running game , look out

If you want to beat KC - - you best hope if your the opponent you score every time you touch the ball , if you don't your in serious trouble , they are just loaded at the skilled positions - then when you have Patrick. - -I think they have a real shot at being the next New England version of a football dynasty very very easily win the Super bowl again this year

You put the KC offensive weapons and then KC defense is just good enough - -not great but good enough when there are put together with their offense gonna be really hard to beat

Sep 27, 2020 06:57 PM #8

Blitz, blitz and blitz. One of those games you man up and just say may the best team win. Force Jackson to get rid of the ball early and make a good throw. I think the Ravens WRs are very average and are not good 1v1. TEs are good, but aren’t going to house one. So be aggressive. Force negative plays. Hit Jackson early and often.

Chiefs offense will need to play better though no matter what. Tough game though. Ravens are due to get the Chiefs back.

Sep 27, 2020 07:23 PM #9

I hate it, but I'm rooting for Scam Newton and the Pats. Any Raider loss is a good thing in my household.

Sep 27, 2020 07:25 PM #10

I just like watching Derek Carr suck. He acts like he gets no respect but he sucks haha. Like you can almost guarantee he’s going to make a play to seal this loss.

Sep 27, 2020 09:17 PM #11

Note I said this before the fumble in his own end zone

Sep 27, 2020 09:19 PM #12

@Kcmatt7 did you get married?

Sep 27, 2020 10:14 PM #13

No we pushed it to next summer. @Crimsonorblue22

Bought a house instead lol

Sep 28, 2020 01:58 PM #14

I will say, I've learned a lot in just a month and a half of owning a house.

  1. The list never stops. Quite honestly, the more you do the more it grows. For instance, I ripped out an old decaying deck that was put over a nice concrete porch only to reveal major wood rot to my rim joist.

  2. I am much handier than I thought I'd have been capable of. I used to be scared to do anything thinking if I messed it up worse it would be more expensive to fix. Now? I'm replacing my own Rim Joist on top of all of the actual home renovations we've been doing. Definitely a sense of pride I'd say.

The real problem is we tapped into our wedding savings just a little bit. We need to back off a bit for a few months. I just want to do everything now is the problem! I'm scared I'll lose motivation after we move in.

Sep 28, 2020 03:13 PM #15

@Kcmatt7 I could use a handyman, so good news, head this way!

Sep 28, 2020 03:45 PM #16

So, I assume Andy and Coach Spagnuolo will use a linebacker as a spy to defend Jackson exclusively. KC has to make Jackson throw the ball and not get easy first downs on open runs. Wow, this is going to be a challenge for the Chiefs.

Sep 28, 2020 04:16 PM #17

I hate the spy. Make Jackson beat you. Don’t give him a 10 man defense to beat. Jmo.

Sep 28, 2020 05:58 PM #18

I heard their O line was weak?

Sep 29, 2020 12:04 AM #19

Doesn't the OU 55 seem way low? I would think 70 or more.

Actually for me I think that's pretty spot on. - - I was thinking like 34-21 or 37-21 KC

Sep 29, 2020 12:15 AM #21

@Kcmatt7 You are right. No spy so far.

Sep 29, 2020 12:31 AM #22

Butker not used to kicks under 55 yards.

Sep 29, 2020 12:35 AM #23

Harbaugh such a putz

Sep 29, 2020 12:53 AM #24

Nice start for the Chiefs.

Sep 29, 2020 12:57 AM #25

Seems like these announcers are Baltimore fans

Sep 29, 2020 12:59 AM #26

Wrong Duvernay.

Sep 29, 2020 01:03 AM #27

Was that Darwin Thompson 34 that got beat on the Balt TD? I can't find another 34 on the roster.

Sep 29, 2020 01:32 AM #28

And the Baltimore crowd goes silent. (Oh, wait...)

Sep 29, 2020 01:42 AM #29

Chiefs defense looking pretty good tonight. Special teams & kicking game...not so much.

Glad to see ONE of my teams can play some D.

Sep 29, 2020 01:44 AM #30

Baltimore killed their rhythm running that kick back. Too bad

Sep 29, 2020 01:46 AM #31

So far, very fun game. Andy Reid with the pitch to the fullback for the 2nd TD. Wow.

Jackson had a tough half: 7/15 for 35 yds passing; 3 rushes for 41 yds. Mahomes is 19/27 for 260 yds. 3 passing TDs one running. I hope the 2nd half goes just as well.

Sep 29, 2020 02:17 AM #32

How fun to play for this team!

Sep 29, 2020 02:21 AM #33

Weird play calling there. Roll Mahones out for an easy first down

Sep 29, 2020 02:21 AM #34

(Instead of Two duds up the gut)

Sep 29, 2020 02:24 AM #35

After not taking one more shot at the end of the first half, and that 1 yard nonsense, it almost feels like Andy is trying to keep it close

Sep 29, 2020 02:42 AM #36

Run the clock and score

Sep 29, 2020 02:43 AM #37

Or just scoreā¤ļøšŸ¤£

Sep 29, 2020 02:44 AM #38

GO FISH

Sep 29, 2020 02:44 AM #39

Hell of a clutch drive !

Sep 29, 2020 02:45 AM #40

Eric has been screwed not getting a head coaching job!

Sep 29, 2020 02:46 AM #41

@Crimsonorblue22 I get the feeling there'll be an opening in New York or Atlanta pretty soon.

Sep 29, 2020 02:46 AM #42

Was wondering why 72 was so hyped up before that play

Sep 29, 2020 02:56 AM #43

To bad no fans, no beers in the stands! For Fisher

Sep 29, 2020 02:57 AM #44

What was the over-under? 54 and a half ?

Sep 29, 2020 03:00 AM #45

Well it doesn't look like I'm going to be far off. I had KC like either 34-21 - - or #7-21 not to bad lol

well that's kinda what I had figured or guessed earlier in the night/thread

Sep 29, 2020 03:01 AM #46

I was right on, win!

Sep 29, 2020 03:10 AM #47

Impressive win.

Sep 29, 2020 03:11 AM #48

Doesn't get any easier though. Next up: Cam Newton & the Pats.

Sep 29, 2020 03:14 AM #49

Not a big fan of that last play from KC. - - WHY are you throwing the ball when you have a 4th & 1 with 0:28 seconds left in the game and Baltimore is out of timeouts & your up 34-20 , instead of just taking a knee on 4th down and the clock running out ? - - think they could of run a better choice of play to end the game

Sep 29, 2020 03:31 AM #50

We have pat mahomes, before the game he was 30 - 0 passes interceptions.āœ…

Sep 29, 2020 04:01 AM #51

What a show. I can't believe Lamar Jackson was held to 100 passing yards and one td.

Sep 29, 2020 10:49 AM #52

@Crimsonorblue22 Did you see that Mahomes' mother doesn't like anyone calling him Pat? ESPN showed a tweet that told the announcrs to stop calling him Pat. Very Funny.

Sep 29, 2020 12:34 PM #53

Man this team is so dang good.

Sep 29, 2020 12:57 PM #54

The absolute Mahomes slander lately is unreal. Can't imagine watching football and thinking Lamar is better.

Under 100 is insane but last year Lamar had 6 games under 200. Of course his rushing yards are a big part of his total yardage.

Sep 29, 2020 01:10 PM #56

@stoptheflop just human nature

Sep 29, 2020 03:56 PM #57

Lamar is a talent. But he's not Mahomes. I don't know how anyone who watches the actual games can think otherwise.

I think Lamar will have an issue winning the big one because he can't throw the ball. If I was Baltimore, I'd be drafting nothing but OL and defensive players if I was sticking with him. With Lamar the only way they are winning is old school. Elite running game and an elite defense. He's just not an elite passer and you can show me stats but my eyes tell me something different.

Sep 29, 2020 06:04 PM #58

@BShark the play calling is outrageously fun and creative!

In the post-game interview, Patrick said his dad is "Pat" to his mom, so he is Patrick.

Sep 29, 2020 06:23 PM #60

@Kcmatt7 Lamar Jackson is out of position. In my humble, and correct opinion he should be a receiver. He is definitely a good athlete, probably has good hands and is very quick.

Which means he will not last as an NFL QB because if you run the ball as much as he does someone is going to lay him out and then Baltimore will have no QB.

I want to see Lamar come from behind. Ravens have major frontrunner vibes to me. Cian Fahey did an article that I'm obviously not going to pay for but he shared some numbers that would have you believe Lamar is somehow a better passer. Sometimes advanced stats can be VERY misleading. If you simply watch Pat throw and watch Lamar throw it's not close. Did Andrews for Balti drop some? Yes but Lamar was still off on several throws.

All this said Lamar is a good QB as a total package, obviously. He's 21-4 in the regular season and a very good threat running the ball.

One area where Pat is a lot better than Lamar that might not be apparent to everyone is pre-snap reads. Mahomes is actually insane pre-snap.

@Crimsonorblue22 Andy is in the conversation for best offensive playcaller all time. Definitely some bag plays last night... The Sherman TD, the Fisher TD etc...

What i think is , even if Mahomes and the Chiefs should be behind , Patrick's composure - -his whole de-meanor is just unreal. he just walks up to the line of scrimmage and it's like OH ok you scored? - -NOW it's my turn - - match this - -totally like no biggie.

I was watching Get up or whatever it is this morning on ESPN and they were talking and comparing Patrick to like Lebron in Basketball. - - Patrick is the Lebron of football , he makes really good players better/great players. - Saying IF Patrick wasn't there would Hill be AS good -- would Kelse be AS good etc. - -they say don't get me wrong these players are really good BUT Patrick is the PG makes them even better

Like I said before , I think the only way your even going to have a chance to beat KC is - - your going to have to outscore them - -you best score every single time you have the ball. - Like they said cause it seems like it really doesn't matter you can start KC on the ONE - -you can start them in the back of the enz zone - -they gonna score - -they making it look to easy

Sep 29, 2020 08:11 PM #63

Patrick is Patrick, I don't compare him.

Sep 29, 2020 08:19 PM #64

@Crimsonorblue22 Just don't call him Pat

He does a good job of not taking hits. Honestly. I’ve seen Pat take more hits than Lamar, so I don’t see him getting hurt anymore likely than Pat.

And as Bshark points out he’s been wildly successful so far in the regular season. I’m not trying to knock Lamar. He’s a good QB. But Pat is just better and the narrative that Lamar is even close is so funny.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this. Van Pelt did last night. This is the year the other players in the league are going to recognize what the world already knows. https://www.nfl.com/news/top-100-players-patrick-mahomes-at-no-4-let-s-re-rank-the-top-10 ↗

I remember when KU played against Mahomes. He didn't overwhelm KU defenses like he has the NFL. What did Any Reid see in Mahomes? Or is Mahomes' success more attributable to Reid's system and the terrific receivers on the team. Like the Belichick/Brady connection, KC has something special with Coach Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

Sep 30, 2020 01:01 PM #69

@approxinfinity BUT - They're so young. How can they afford to start a family ??

Sep 30, 2020 01:24 PM #70

@stoptheflop I remember when we played them in Texas and he was the 2nd string qb, a long game, delayed game because of storms. I think. I kept thinking, he's their 2nd string? He was killing us. So not fair, he could play all he wanted for us!

Imagine not voting Pat and Russ 1-2 or vice versa even before the season.

Those two just play at a different level.

Sep 30, 2020 04:34 PM #74

@Kcmatt7 Patrick!🤣

Sep 30, 2020 05:37 PM #75

@Crimsonorblue22 I remember a game played in Lubbock where we played TT close with Mahomes at QB, then we made the mistake of knocking him out of the game in the second half. The second string QB came in and threw TD after TD to smash our poor team and my hopes for an upset.
