KJ with 25 in a win last night. Anyone feel free to post w/e they find here.

Dec 10, 2020 03:11 AM #2

KJ 34 points last night. Team scored 62.

Dec 10, 2020 04:54 AM #3

Had this thought and am curious about how other folks think. Instead of getting super high ranked guys, we’re getting guys that have a β€œthing” that they just do better than others. Curry is a rebounder/dunker. Clemence a shooter. Adams a matchup problem at the 4. Not a lot of pro talent there, but those guys are going to make a tough college frontcourt to defend.

Dec 10, 2020 04:59 PM #4

I think it is fine to go after guys who are skilled at basically one thing. I think it is smart to go after some guys who may be undersized so you know they will stay four years.

But most importantly we need to find guys who can play next to each other. I love that this group can mix and match and play next to each other.

Last year for instance, playing Big Dave next to Doke was horrible. And Mitch without adding a shot to his game never could give Doke the space he needed down low.

You need a PF who can stretch his guy away from your C if you are going to have a "dunker" at C. You have to have an athlete at PF if you are going to have a guy like Clemence play 5. It seems like this group has all of that.

Dec 10, 2020 05:20 PM #5

@FarmerJayhawk Yeah I think either of the other guys pairs will with Zach and same with Jalen. The only pairing I wouldn't want to see is KJ and Curry on the floor at the same time.

Dec 10, 2020 08:25 PM #6

@Kcmatt7

Wilson has been amazing for us so far this year. The guy is stretching into the 5 and can go all the way down to a 3. Love his rebounding and his aggression to the basket. Been a while since we had someone so hungry.

He's making a solid case for athleticism being overrated. What good is it if you don't use it? We've had so many amazing athletes that rarely left their game on the court. Always frustrated the cr@p out of me.

Dec 10, 2020 10:18 PM #7

He is a steal... And is going to flatout perform.

Dec 11, 2020 02:12 PM #8

@drgnslayr I think we can all agree that Jalen is a different breed.... Quick first step. Elite hand-eye coordination for a guy who is 6’8. Basketball IQ is extremely high.

Sure if they can go find another one bring him in lol.

Dec 12, 2020 05:18 PM #9

Zach 20/7/3 last game on 60% shooting.

Dec 12, 2020 07:54 PM #10

Some KJ highlights

Jan 10, 2021 03:21 PM #11

Zach with 8/5 against Monteverde which like Sunrise is basically a college team. He had to go up against Jalen Duren, who is a guy that probably never sees a college court. He doesn't get as many shots as he will get under Self I would bet.

Jan 10, 2021 03:38 PM #12

@BShark

Duren looks like 2.0 Dwight Howard

Jan 10, 2021 04:03 PM #13

@BeddieKU23 Yeah, total beast. Hopefully he skips college, would suck if he ended up at UK.

Jan 10, 2021 07:49 PM #14

@BShark

Can't imagine he'll play College with the options available to kids like him

Zach had a fairly rough game against La Lumiere. Had to go against HOPEFULLY COLLEGE TEAMMATE 7 foot freak athlete Vince Iwuchukwu.

8p/6rb/3ast/4stl but shot 2-10

A real freak at that - - -hope so , he said KU was for sure was involved

Jan 17, 2021 01:18 AM #18

Is it just me, or does it seem to everyone that when Enaruna gets true PT that he contributes on both ends? I wish Bryce a speedy recovery.

Jan 18, 2021 08:16 PM #19

ESPNU is currently showing Sunrise vs. IMG if anyone wants to watch Clemence play live against top HS competition.

Jan 19, 2021 02:02 AM #20

@Texas-Hawk-10 how did he do?

KJ Adams has had some big games lately. His team is 20-1. Had 29 and 30 in a few. 11 dunks in 2 games.

This KU team only has 29 on the year.. hes gonna dunk a lot here

Jesus Christ, it will be nice to see some dunks again next season πŸ˜‚

Jan 30, 2021 05:20 PM #25

@Marco

They are not playing great teams but the man is a hammer around the post. He is wired to score in the lane. Just physically imposing in HS. He won't score as easy here but there are things he can do that will translate. Self can really play him in multiple spots

How many players do we even have right now that can dunk in a game. Ochai and Tyon?

Seen Christian Dunk So he can but haven't seen it much about the only time is on break aways

Jan 30, 2021 05:58 PM #28

@BShark

Without a running start. Yeah thats it. We need him and curry to bring the pain in the post next year. Hopefully Dave finds himself a team closer to home to finish his degree

Jan 30, 2021 06:28 PM #29

Sydney Curry hasn't played in either game for his JUCO so far. Haven't been able to figure out why

Feb 01, 2021 09:19 PM #30

Curry had an akle injury. He will play this week

Feb 02, 2021 02:46 AM #31

@BeddieKU23 bro,,, Adams is a player!

Feb 02, 2021 02:48 AM #32

@BShark for real, right? Braun has dunked a time or two. Oh, I can dunk too (for real, even still on goid days)), but have exhausted my eligibility...

Feb 06, 2021 03:48 PM #33

Curry had his first game. 6 pts, 11 boards, 5 steals, 4 turnovers, 2 assists. 1-4 fg, 4-8 ft. Came off the bench in this one

Feb 14, 2021 06:14 PM #34

Zach dropped 20 on 9-13 shooting last night. :sweat_droplets:

Feb 14, 2021 07:21 PM #35

Curry had 9 pts, 7 boards, 2 assists, 3 turnovers. 3/6 from the line in his last game

Takeaways from his games so far, he boards, he is a terrible free throw shooter and turns the ball over a lot. Seems to have 2/3 assits a game so that's promising.

Sunrise beat Oak Hill Acad the other night and we all know how good they are out of Mouth of Wilson - -is that the same game you talking about cause that was a HUGE WIN for Sunrise

Feb 26, 2021 01:04 PM #37

Curry has played 5 games, all off the bench

Averaging 8 ppg, 8 rebounds per.

44% from the FT line (11-25), he's Doke bad..

55% FG

1 blk in 5 games. 2 assists per, 1.6 steals.

Feb 26, 2021 01:09 PM #38

We should have the lowest of expectations for Curry

Feb 26, 2021 01:11 PM #39

KJ Adams had 28 in his last, area championship game. Westlake has won 21 straight games..

Dunk as well

Mar 19, 2021 01:13 PM #42

Update on Sydney Curry

After a slow start caused by an ankle injury Curry has scored in double figures in 8 straight games.
Over that span he's averaging 15 ppg, 8.6 reb pg, 2 ast pg, 2 to's pg, 1.5 blk's pg. Impressive to note is he's averaged 4 offensive boards in his last 8 games. FT % continues to be a problem, 49%. Shooting 67% from the field on the season though which I think will translate for what KU will ask him to do, dunk/score around the rim.

Mar 19, 2021 03:49 PM #43

Yeah, seems pretty clear he wasn't ready to come back from the injury at first.

Mar 24, 2021 07:26 PM #44

@BeddieKU23 After this post he went for 24/11 and 11/10. Coming on strong. Just dunk, screen and rebound.

exactly what we need someone solid

Mar 24, 2021 08:25 PM #46

I honestly have such little faith that he will be an impact player next season that he is probably going to end up in the rafters lol.

I'm in the middle on him. If he is just a nice bench piece to give Dave a breather that's great.

Mar 24, 2021 08:41 PM #48

@BShark I just think there are like 10+ transfers I'd rather have than Curry. So he better be more than that long-term because I think we could land a guy who could take over Dave's role next year and we will instead be taking Curry.

Yeah I tend to agree there are lots of guys I would take instead. I think if we want to add another big we have to process Gethro which I would be fine with. In hoops you don't just tell a guy to decommit like you do in football. I would rather have Traore or Aidoo than Gethro. Not sure if they are doing to get involved for Aidoo this time but I know they are going after Traore.

Mar 24, 2021 09:01 PM #50

@BShark I think you can just be blunt with him. Gethro is out - we are going after a guy we think will play over you so the situation has changed. If Curry still wants to come after that then he can come.

Mar 25, 2021 12:43 PM #51

@Kcmatt7

This is where I'm at as well. We don't have the traditional big that's taking Dave's spot after next season on the roster right now. Maybe it ends up being Clemence but he would be a departure from Self's preference. He's already an outlier, he can shoot from the perimeter. Maybe Zach is the future he wants to build around instead of always having a guy he hopes and prays can stretch the floor over time and oppositely guard a big outside. Curry's big and athletic but seems like a flier in the same sense, he really came out of nowhere to commit as well. Either the fact Curry is a + athlete with power will translate immediately or Self would be better off finding a guy right now in the portal. Questions I'm sure he's going through

@jayballer67

Playing top competition and neither Zach or Gradey are option 1, 2 or 3 &4. Options 1 and 2 are Chandler and Brown and then Chandler is option 3 and 4 before the ball goes anywhere else LOL.

In each game Zach showed the ability to hit the 3, Chasen at 247 noted he was open several times on the perimeter and teammates missed him. Also showed he could wall up inside, force misses, rebound and guard the perimeter.

Gradey didn't shoot well from 3 this tournament but played aggressive on both ends, showed his strengths in transition and around the basket. Remember he's got another year of HS to go.

The previous coach for Sunrise was a much better coach.

Montverde hadn't lost a game in 2 years before Sunrise beat them earlier this year. That was their 3rd meeting of the year. Sunrise has 3 5 star players in their starting lineup, filthy. Last year's team might produce 4 first round picks

Yeah he's a high screen and pop guy in that offense. Chandler seemed like he wanted to be option 1-5 in this tournament..
