High Character and Work Ethic Recruits

Not sure if this is a purposeful change in recruiting but something I noticed in the last few classes. Haven't seen a single bad thing said about KJ, Cuffe or Clemence. Bryce, Braun, Jalen, Harris etc...

Good point. Love it. Team chemistry is really good these last 2 years.

A change for the best!

I'm sure we could dig up old posts talking about this

Hopefully Self got fed up with how the Vick and Silvio situations ended up.

And we can win with those kinds of guys too. I'll take a Braun or Wilson over a Vick or Silvio any day of the week.

@BShark

Preston, Diablo, Cliff, the list goes on of shady recruitments and shady people beside them etc. I don't think its a coincidence we start recruiting good characters as soon as Adidas got caught. Probably for the best for recruiting

Look at UK now and they've got going on.

@BeddieKU23 some of that's is on their parents. Diallo is doing well, comes from nothing. Self is a great mentor too.

Love these guys. question did anybody think Braun would do this well at a P-5 ? - -pretty dam solid kid can stroke the ball. Typical case maybe of being overlooked by people - -Bill found another hidden Jem ? - -what was his ranking anyways?

This is a great thread. I think most of us want fine, upstanding young men that we can be proud of first and great basketball players second. This team seems to have both and I really feel great about our prospects. However things turn out this appears to be a team we can all rally around come hell or high water. I could really use a season where the high drama is ON the court, not off. That said, I wouldn't mind a few low-drama, blowout games as well!

@tis4tim Yep.

You never truly know how things will go until kids get on campus but I love what I've read (and heard in the case of Zach) about the incoming kids. Curry there just isn't much info on in comparison which is the only reason I didn't mention him.

With some recruits you knew they would be trouble and were just hoping Bill could mitigate the damage like Preston.

@BeddieKU23 @Crimsonorblue22 Yeah I don't think Diallo was a bad kid but of course it was a super shady recruitment involving handlers. The less of those the better!

@BShark @Crimsonorblue22

Nothing against Diallo, I was a big fan of his in High School and have a friend who was familiar with him. The NCAA rules suck and make the situations with handlers and guardians complicated. Unfortunately KU has been burned enough to be cautious going forward

We've certainly given fodder to the people out there who believe KU is dirty. I too am relieved that we appear to have made a concerted effort to recruit that way. There was seemingly a yearly scandal/drama/dustup non basketball related incident until last year! In fact, DeSousa could still be here. There's so many characters with some bull crap that cost us the chance to utilize their sometimes prodigious talents.

@BeddieKU23 was wondering what you thought about Josh?

Dec 26, 2020 05:33 PM #15

@Crimsonorblue22

Loved him. Certainly wasn't perfect off the court but he played his butt off.
