SoCon and Sun Belt title games will be tomorrow night. 5 more bids will go out on Tuesday night. 15 bids will go out next Saturday and the last 5 automatic bids will go out on Selection Sunday.

Without the Ivy League playing this year, that means there are only 31 automatic bids this year with 37 at large bids so the bubble is expanded by 1 team this season.

Mar 07, 2021 09:35 PM #3

Drake losing the Missouri Valley title game to Loyola Chicago could potentially knock the Bulldogs out of the tournament because of the weak SOS. Winthrop winning the Big South was big all of the bubble teams as Winthrop would've been in that discussion had they not won their conference tournament title game today.

Mar 08, 2021 06:38 PM #4

@Texas-Hawk-10 I think that it would be a shame if Drake didn't make the tournament.

Mar 08, 2021 06:53 PM #5

@Texas-Hawk-10

47th in NET, doesn't help their case either. This is one of those that generally gets left out for a mediocre P5 team. Maybe their strong 6-2 record against Q1/Q2 will factor

Mar 08, 2021 07:31 PM #6

@BeddieKU23 Most of the projections I'm seeing now have Drake in a First Four game which doesn't bode too well for their chances considering a lot of the other bubble teams around them still have their conference tournament to play and improve their odds. Drake could very well be on the outside looking in after the final game next Sunday.

Mar 08, 2021 07:48 PM #7

Glad Gregg Marshall is out, and his prior school Winthrop is in the tourney.

I actually gave a talk to an class there 12 years ago to a bunch of future teachers about education law. Nice people!

Mar 09, 2021 03:08 AM #8

I see Joey Buckets has moved us up to a 3 seed in his latest Bracketology. - - doesn't show it that way off the ESPN site but was watching a tournament game Western Kentucky ? - -anyways doesn't matter but it scrolled across bottom of screen and showed us as a 3 seed

Mar 09, 2021 03:33 AM #9

App St. and UNCG have each clinched a tournament bid by winning their respective conference tournaments tonight.

5 more bids are on the line tomorrow with the Colonial, Horizon, NEC, Summit, and West Coast title games.

Mar 09, 2021 04:50 AM #10

Always get a kick out of the longshots making it in. App State - #210 ranking in KenPom

On the other end, was surprised to see Loyola-Chicago in the Top 10.

Mar 09, 2021 05:03 AM #11

4 of the 5 title games for tomorrow are set. Only that isn't is the WCC title game with BYU and Pepperdine getting ready to tip, but it probably doesn't matter since the winner gets Gonzaga.

Colonial: Elon (8) vs. Drexel (6)

Horizon: Oakland (5) vs. Cleveland St. (2)

NEC: Mount St. Mary's (4) vs. Bryant (2)

Summit: Oral Roberts (4) vs. North Dakota St. (3)

WCC: BYU/Pepperdine vs. Gonzaga (1)

Mar 09, 2021 05:11 AM #12

Guessing that App State will get a 16 seed.

Wonder if the selection committee will have a sense of humor and put them up against Michigan ?

Mar 09, 2021 07:22 AM #13

And in the WCC (really late) nightcap, BYU pulls it out in OT after trailing Pepperdine most of the game.

Mar 09, 2021 09:31 AM #14

@nwhawkfan

Top 5 defense fueling them (Loyola)

Mar 09, 2021 02:55 PM #15

@nwhawkfan being lazy not googling. Who is the coach at Loyola? The same one who made that run a few years ago, whenever that was?

Mar 09, 2021 04:14 PM #16

Porter Moser 2011 - present

Mar 09, 2021 04:16 PM #17

2018 final four

Mar 09, 2021 04:39 PM #18

That guy can coach.

Mar 09, 2021 10:55 PM #19

@COHawk Porter Moser. Sounds like the name of a country singer.

Mar 10, 2021 02:04 AM #20

And your latest 16 seed...Mount St. Mary's (KenPom #228), after winning the NEC.

Cleveland State also in; they take the Horizon League crown.

Mar 13, 2021 05:46 PM #21

Hartford Hawks win the America East for the 1st of 15 bids today. Likely to be a 16 seed playing on Thursday.

Mar 13, 2021 05:48 PM #22

Big day for this thread ;-)

Mar 13, 2021 07:24 PM #23

There's been surprisingly few bid stealers so far this conference tournament season.

Utah St. plays San Diego St. for the Mountain West title with USU right there on the cut line.

Memphis plays Houston with Memphis needing a win to out themselves into the field.

If either of those teams lose, they'll likely be hoping that Kansas and Virginia pop more positive tests and can't play in the NCAA Tournament.

In the Big East, Georgetown has a chance to steal a bid if they knock off Creighton tonight. Also, Oregon St. has a chance to steal a bid as well if they beat Colorado in the PAC12 Title game tonight.

Mar 13, 2021 08:09 PM #24

Norfolk St. has won the MEAC for the first since 2012 when they pulled off a 15-2 upset over Missouri in the NCAA Tournament.

Mar 13, 2021 08:16 PM #25

I also forgot that Cincinnati could be a bid stealers as well if they won the AAC. They're playing Wichita St. right now.

Mar 13, 2021 09:18 PM #26

Ohio State over Michigan by 1.

Mar 13, 2021 10:11 PM #27

Cincinnati pulls off the upset of Wichita St. to advance to their 4th straight AAC title game. Wichita St. might be in some trouble too as they were a projected 12 seed as an AQ going into today.

Mar 13, 2021 11:09 PM #28

Rick Pitino is back in the NCAA Tournament leading Iona to the MAAC title.

Mar 13, 2021 11:13 PM #29

@Texas-Hawk-10 guy's a douche, but knows how to win.

Mar 14, 2021 12:54 AM #30

Georgetown is absolutely murdering Creighton right now up 28 with about 14 minutes left.

Also looks like Texas Southern will get the SWAC bid as they're up almost 20 on Prairie View with less than 4 minutes left.

Houston and Memphis are tied with about 5 minutes left.

Mar 14, 2021 12:56 AM #31

LSU upset Arkansas in SEC semifinals and will play Alabama who came back from 15 down in the 2nd half against Tennessee.

Mar 14, 2021 01:02 AM #32

San Diego St. over Utah St. for the MWC title so USU will be sweating it out tomorrow.

Mar 14, 2021 01:19 AM #33

Houston is going to survive another tight game with Memphis and will have Memphis sweating it tomorrow.

Mar 14, 2021 01:21 AM #34

Ohio up 20 on Buffalo at halftime in the MAC title game.

Mar 14, 2021 01:22 AM #35

Georgetown is going to steal a bid and shrink the bubble by 1 as they're up 25 with about 3 minutes left.

Mar 14, 2021 01:31 AM #36

Has McDermott lost his team from his comment?

Mar 14, 2021 01:46 AM #37

So Patrick Ewing's Georgetown steals a bid, exactly 49 years to the day after the Hoyas named John Thompson as HC.

Wonder who gets bumped off the bubble ?

Speaking of anniversaries, the guy calling the Big East final on Fox, Gus Johnson, made his famous "Cold...Blooded" call ten years ago yesterday when Washington's Isiah Thomas hit a buzzer-beater to top Arizona for the Pac 12 title.

Mar 14, 2021 02:14 AM #38

@nwhawkfan The bid stealing may not be done tonight. Oregon State has a chance to steal another bid tonight as well.

Mar 14, 2021 02:31 AM #39

Ohio over Buffalo for the MAC title

Mar 14, 2021 03:07 AM #40

Eastern Washington over Montana St. for the Big Sky title.

Mar 14, 2021 04:15 AM #41

Georgia Tech takes down FSU to win the ACC Tournament and North Texas over Western Kentucky for the CUSA title.

Mar 14, 2021 04:19 AM #42

Abilene Christian is going to beat Nicholls St. for the Southland title up 26 with 4 minutes left.

Grand Canyon appears on their way to the WAC title with a 17 point lead over NMSU with 12 minutes left.

Mar 14, 2021 04:23 AM #43

Oregon St. up 5 at halftime over Colorado with a chance to steal a 2nd bid today after Georgetown stole one earlier today.

Mar 14, 2021 01:29 PM #44

Oregon State held on last night to beat Colorado for the PAC12 title to steal a bid and shrink the bubble and UC Santa Barbara won the Big West title over UC Irvine last night.

Mar 14, 2021 01:30 PM #45

Rick Patino is back in the tourney with Iona (mid-major).

Mar 14, 2021 01:38 PM #46

There 5 games today.

Patriot League is up first on CBSSN at 11CST with Loyola-MD vs. Colgate.

The A10 on CBS and SEC on ESPN are up next at noon with VCU vs. St. Bonaventure in the A10 title game and LSU vs. Alabama in the SEC title game.

The AAC title game between Cincinnati and Houston is at 2:15 on ESPN with Cincinnati having a chance to steal a third bid to go with Georgetown and Oregon St. yesterday.

The final game is the Big 10 title game at 2:30 on CBS between Ohio St. and Illinois.

Mar 14, 2021 01:50 PM #47

The two most intriguing games today are the AAC and A10 games. The AAC has a potential bid stealers in Cincinnati playing. Houston won the first meeting by 38 points and are favored by 13.5 points today so can Cincy put on a better show and be the third bid stealer this weekend?

The A10 is intriguing because each team is currently a projected 10 seed so could the loser drop down into Last Four In territory and a play in game?

Oregon State is a very quiet Big 5 conference champion. Might be a sleeper. They have kids of former professional players and sometimes, that can make a difference.

Mar 14, 2021 05:57 PM #49

Colgate wins the Patriot League over Loyola-MD.

Mar 14, 2021 07:06 PM #50

Alabama holds off LSU to win SEC title by a point and St. Bonaventure beats VCU by 9 for the A10 title.

Mar 14, 2021 09:14 PM #51

Houston repeats what they did the first game against Cincy by winning by 37 for the AAC title.

Mar 14, 2021 09:34 PM #52

Ohio St. and Illinois going to OT on the B10 title game.

Mar 14, 2021 09:34 PM #53

Quentin - -Huge Tourney -- 21 points yesterday - - 21 points today and 3 steals. - -glad things turned out ok for him - - just didn't fit here

Mar 14, 2021 09:51 PM #54

@jayballer67 I said when he transferred that he would end up as AAC POY, didn't expect to be this year though.

Mar 14, 2021 10:00 PM #55

Illinois over OSU by 3 in OT.

Mar 14, 2021 10:02 PM #56

@Texas-Hawk-10 My takeaway from that game: Big 10 is stacked with talent.

So is the B12. B10 with 4 top 9 teams and B12 with with 5 top 13 teams.

3 seed in the West. Interesting, given who else is in this region:

Teams we've played:
Gonzaga
Oklahoma
Creighton

Teams we have a grudge with:
Missouri
VCU
Oregon
