KJ is an effort player at this point, but his skill set really isn't developed yet. Mitch is the better overall player at this point, but KJ will eventually surpass Mitch.

Dave is just a mechanical player that's had to work very hard to get to where he's at now. He has his limitations, but he's still the best all around big man KU has on the roster right now. If Zach can learn how to play defense, he'll surpass Dave and become playable next to Dave as well.

From that Self interview he mentioned Zach being a 5 instead of a 4 based on team need, and Wilson being able to play 1-5. That makes me think KJ is spot minutes for the foreseeable future, to @Texas-Hawk-10 s point.

Also, Remy as the lone guard has been much better this game than playing him next to Harris. Both are ball dominant players and don't really play off the ball well.

Remy, CB, Och, Jalen + pick a big miiight be our best line-up.

@BShark feels like last season. Hopefully he figures out how to be helpful. Self should know he has scoring options and doesn’t have to have Dave on the floor this year if the team isn’t producing

Dave didn't make a bucket on his own. Only credited with 5 attempts, but he missed 3 on one possession. A couple of 2 footers. I would rather see more of Jalen or Ochai posting up...

He's a very mechanical player, not an instinctual player. Catching the ball and going up just isn't natural for him.

The defense on the other hand has been decent. A good team would have made us pay for some of the open 3 looks we have given up.

We took pretty good care of the ball the first 3 games - reverting to old habits this game. Very sloppy passing...

The offense got bad when Bill took out Remy for a complete non-scorer (Harris). I for one am shocked.

Not lying, I'd take Mitch over Dave at this point. You're right, he did look bad - just plodding along, a rusty mechanical look.

Ochai looked good, Remy and Braun too. Wilson not bad either, first game back. As it see it so far, Dave definitely the weak link. A hard game to watch.

Eh, last year was hard to watch. That was a pretty good result with a hurt Remy and Dave playing awful.

Was able to watch most of the game but couldn't comment today. I really liked the way Jalen Wilson rebounds and then pushes it hard up the floor. Remy was great. Agbaji, Braun, Wilson, and Mitch were good. Dave needs to play better.

I think we would have won regardless, but it sure helped North Texas couldn’t hit a 3.
I was annoyed every time the announcers said “Texas” did something instead of “North Texas”. Kinda like saying “Kansas” did something if “Kansas State” was playing.
Soooo many skip passes today. Remy was tossing fastballs everywhere! His shot selection needs work. But we really need his scoring skills when the offense breaks down.
How long did we have to wait last year for Big Dave to bust his slump? Conference play? I repeat myself when saying he can learn some composure from Mitch.

@rockchalkjayhawk I was impressed with Mitch's play. Juan wasn't on his game, seemed to kind of be forcing things.

Watching Dave, I wonder if he is one of the people who have lingering effects from Covid. Gassed in just a few minutes, sweating sheets of water, looks confused. I think there may be a hidden story there.

Yup, exactly. I had the same thoughts last night about his wiring being mixed up. There has to be a simple fix in there somehow.

Then I started thinking, OK, Dave is Dave. Did his surrounding and supporting cast change the way they are doing things, which is messing up his game? His spot on the floor changed? Stuff like that?

Maybe he’s not good at change (new guys in rotation), and needs adjustment time?
