Well we all know there has been much conversation about Dave , how he is hurting the team , some of the things said solid , Dave has plenty of room to improve , pick up his game, yet we all know Dave started slow last year and look how he ended up for the year - he saved our butts more then once , still you got people saying he costs us games - -Maybe - - maybe not .Not once have I found where ONLY Dave has cost this team a game - kind of like the saying you WIN as a team - -And you LOSE as a team.

There is plenty of blame that can be handed out to EVERY SINGLE player at different points of games , yet Dave seems to be the target , Hell after the 1st game of the year we had people talking about how Dave needed to be benched how lousy he was and costing us - - THE FIRST GAME for GOD'S Sake

I ran across this today and should be noted - you want to talk smack on Dave ? - -Great you do that , throw that shade BUT like I said there are others on this team that need trashed to, just a small comparison here. Will someone tell me how much Jalen has been helping us? - go ahead I'll wait - -he has played like shit , lousy , lousy ball - -but yet don't hear people targeting Jalen nearly as much. Hmmmm and don't try and come across with the feeble excuse - - WELL he has only played 3 games -- AND? -People was on Dave after the 1st game - -but Jalen wets himself and all I hear is - -well it's his 1st game back , 2nd game , 3rd game - -so at what point does he take responsibility for the play of his game ? - -Here you go - you ready for Jalen's eye popping stats where maybe he should take more of David's minutes or hell take more of anybody's - heard people saying Jalen needs to be seeing the floor more lol - -OK through 3 games Jalen's numbers in Jalen's time back and he is only averaging 1 less minute per Game then David 18.7 to 17.7- Jalen's stats ? - -35.7% FG - - 30.0 ft % - & 0.00 3pt % - hey there's something to write home about - -how many games you gonna win with a line like that ?

Again I know David has a lot of things to improve on yet but dam some people need to get off his ass , really about the only ones playing well pretty much consistency at this point is - - -Ochai - - Christian - Bobby has been pretty solid - - Remy has forced a lot of things -- Jaun has been ok nothing great. - Ya David needs to do better, but so does EVERYONE ELSE. lighten up.

Some think how well a player is doing is all about Scoring , that's about the least truthful thing from reality that there is, takes a hell of a lot more then just scoring. Yep Dave needs to score more but I have no doubt that will come - -a lot of more facets to the game then just scoring. - -Dave is the Teams leading Shot blocker, and has 10 blocks - - -tied for the team leader in STEALS - -hmmm imagine that the guy that's hurting the team is also leading the team in Steals. - - 2nd leading rebounder. - Hell Dave shouldn't have to score a ton -All I've heard is how we got so many that can score the ball - ya he needs to score but if he avg's 8-9 a game gets his share of rebounds then I'm good Again were loaded with Scorers right? - so we don't need to depend on him for scoring a boat load. - Like I said sure there is things he for sure can improve but DAMM lighten up Dave by far is not the only problem with this team yet seems to be the easy target - -ROCK CHALK

I don't think Big Dave costs this team games. I don't even have a problem with him as a player. He's a good player with a defined skill set that can be effective at the D1 level.

My issue is the way he fits with this team, and the way that Bill Self wants to use him.

Dave McCormack is not Udoka Azubuike. He is not Wayne Simien. He is not Markieff Morris. He is not Thomas Robinson. He is not Perry Ellis. He is probably most similar to Cole Aldrich, with less defensive acumen.

So let's think about Cole Aldrich. He was most successful on the 2008-09 team, which revolved primarily around him and Sherron Collins, with Collins averaging about 19 a game and Cole about 15. In his junior season, Aldrich's numbers fell back down to under 12 points a game. The big difference was that as a sophomore, Aldrich needed to be the focus inside because the freshman scorers (Taylor, Morris Twins) were not ready to step forward just yet, so Aldrich was a focal point. The team had very little wing scoring (Reed and Morningstar averaged under 7 ppg).

That is not this team. Two of the best players on this team are wing scorers (Braun, Agbaji). The best players are slashing guards (add Martin, Yesufu, Harris to the prior list). McCormack is not the second best player on this team. He's probably the 5th best behind Agbaji, Martin, Braun, and Wilson.

This team was also built to run. Every guy in the rotation except McCormack and Lightfoot is a guy that is better in an uptempo transition game. That doesn't fit McCormack's style as well.

So we have a guy that is talented. I just compared him to a player that was an NBA lottery pick. But we have a team that doesn't fit his style, and in fact goes against his style.

So Dave is in a bit of a bind. He's a fish out of water trying to run with thoroughbreds. He can still be effective, but he's a guy that really can't play with Harris because Dave needs to be on the floor with other shooters, so if Harris plays a lot (and he has so far) Dave has to play less. He isn't a great post up guy, so he needs to be out away from the basket screening, but that goes against Self's tendency to run almost exclusively PnR with a four out set.

Dave can be effective. We just have to find a fit for his skills within the construct of the rest of the team.

I concur. Would only add that Wilson has been back for three games and has played for one season. Dave is in his 4th year of inconsistency.

Wilson hasn't looked very good thus far. I'm pretty sure he'll come around and Dave looked better vs St Johns. Just a matter of time before all the cylinders are in sync. When that happens, we should be able to compete with any team on any night.
