@focojayhawk said in Rodgers-to-Denver deal still alive ?:
Grew up in Wisconsin and a big Packer fan. I now live in Colorado and listen to sports talk radio here. It is uncanny how much the talk here sounds like a deal is already done to get Rodgers. Denver has been so starved for a QB post-Manning and it almost screams of desperation how much assuming is going on here. The talk is their first & second round picks both this year and next plus a player for Rodgers and the talking heads here have already aligned with that going forward.
As a Packer fan, I'm on the fence. Rodgers has clearly underachieved in the postseason (not all his fault, but for sure some is), but their team is still a contender. That said, the iron will never be hotter and they'll likely not get as much in return if they wait. GB is gonna have to be like everyone else eventually in their search for a QB (not looking good with Jordan Love) so the possibility of having a lot of draft capital to either find a QB or build around another is intriguing.
I'm curious what Chiefs fans would want...for the Broncos to mortgage their future to get 2-3 years out of Rodgers or to go in a different direction?
If I am GB, and I see Cousins, Fields and Goff as the division QBs there is just no way I am not keeping 12. There is absolutely nothing that Denver can offer to give up that level of QB play in a division all but guaranteeing 5 or 6 wins, in a playoff structure benefiting the #1 seed so much.
I do think Denver should move Heaven and Earth to get him. They have a lot of gifted young players and could probably win a SB if they went all in for Rodgers for two seasons like they did with Manning. Jeudy, Patrick, Sutton and Fant with Rodgers would be insane. Javonte Williams at RB too... That would be a damn good team.
At the same time, I'm really not worried? We have another 12+ years of Pat I think. We will get another one. You can't win them all, and the move makes perfect sense for Denver.
But again - GB would be silly to let him walk. This is the time you go all-in. Push out EVERYONE's cap hit as far as you can. Sign the best Free Agents. Start a 3 year plan. Year 4, blow it all up and start a rebuild. Picks may or may not pan out. Rodgers is the real deal and if you can get 3 more tries at a SB run when the rest of your division is in a terrible spot you do it.
