What does the future hold for Andrew Wiggins?
Aug 05, 2014 10:00 PM #1

I’m torn when it comes to Andrew Wiggins and his NBA future.

On one hand, I’d love to see Wiggins alongside LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It would be fun to watch Wiggins grow and adapt with the greatest player in the world as his teammate as he aspires to take over that mantle, perhaps.

On the other hand, it’s a no-brainer that the Cavs should trade Wiggins if they have a chance to It appears unlikely Andrew Wiggins will ever wear a Cleveland Cavs jersey when it counts. acquire big Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Love will never be the greatest player in the world. But he’s already a proven NBA star who can score and rebound and he would fit perfectly with James and young point guard Kyrie Irving to give Cleveland the kind of trio that could lead a team to an NBA championship.

I keep hearing that it would be great to have LeBron mentor and guide Wiggins; however, where is the precedent? I don't remember that much about his previous stint with the Cavaliers, but if you look at the Heat, who did he exactly mentor? The majority of the players were his age or older and it certainly did not look like he wanted to mentor Mario, unless screaming at him while the world watched is considered mentoring. No question that LeBron is the proverbial alpha-dog/leader; however, being an alpha-dog/leader is not quite the same as a mentor. A leader will push you to up your game, a mentor will show you how to do it. Big difference.

I believe that a coach with experience developing younger players might be a better option for Wiggins. Can you imagine how good Wiggins could be if could have Popovich as his coach?

@JayHawkFanToo just read an article about Lebron meeting his coach today. Think the coach is intimidated? Don't really care, I'm a bad sport!

The upside of not being an NBA fan:

I haven't lost one second of sleep about Andrew Wiggins since March 23.

I'd care more about what happens to Wiggins if he had given us more than a year. That doesn't mean I don't care, once a JH always a JH, but I barely got to know him. No great memories of shining on the national stage leading us to loftier heights than a 2nd round loss.

It's funny though because I do care alot about what happens to Joel. I guess it's because he really entertained us during the short time he was on campus.

Wiggins and Embiid are the gifts that keep giving. Wiggins is a quiet, reserved kid, Embiid is a crazy, fun loving kidder! They both are representing us well! The same can be be said for Ben Mac.

@nuleafjhawk not an NBA fan, but I'm always a Jayhawk fan.

@Crimsonorblue22 I was proud of the (very short) time he spent at KU, but honestly I don't care if he plays for San Antonio, Milwaukee, Cleveland or the Looney Tunes team from Space Jam.

I hope he does well, stays healthy and gets on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine or whatever - I just don't care about the NBA. I'm proud of all the Jayhawks (past and present) in the NBA and I might stop and watch 3 minutes of a game if I see a Jayhawk playing - otherwise it's Naked and Afraid or Buying Alaska.

@nuleafjhawk hopefully no Jhawks on naked and afraid!
