What no one wants to mention Jay Wright retiring?
Apr 21, 2022 08:26 PM #1

Roy Williams, mike K, now Jay wright … these were college HOF level guys who competed with HCBS for top recruits. Now they are gone and frankly Roy’s and Mike replacements haven’t proven themselves and could very likely not live up to the lofty expectations at those schools. hell Jay W MADE the Villanova program what it was, and won two titles. I believe his first two or three years were nit invites. The dude was a monster at building a top ten program.

This has got to be really good for Kansas. Who is better than Self now? Calamari? Boeheim? Yes there are the young new coaches that are turning programs around, the guys that will someday be potential HOF coaches, but we have arguably the BEST coach as of now in D1

@Bosthawk it's been a hot topic, but in a thread that already existed. Which admittedly is confusing.

Apr 21, 2022 08:34 PM #3

Whoops ! Guess I should have hunted for it

Apr 21, 2022 08:42 PM #4

@Bosthawk Didn't Roy's replacement get to the title game and almost beat some team from the Midwest in his first year? That seems like a pretty good start.

@nuleafjhawk
Yes hubie did

Who recruited the main NC players? hubie?

Ding Dong, the classy coach is retired...

@Bosthawk I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just saying I wish the first year of my job had gone that well. Seems like he can coach.

Recruiting at North Carolina takes care of itself.

Apr 22, 2022 01:17 PM #9

@BShark IMO Part of the reason Roy left was the ease of recruiting to UNC. 90% was going home though.

Isn't that the truth? They are chock full of talent in that state...

Jay said he just lost the "edge" to coach. Nova tried to talk him out of it but him and his wife decided it was time. This is all straight from Jay per Zags.

Apr 22, 2022 02:35 PM #12

"Lost the edge" yet still makes a final four. He was at the top of his game for sure.

He was one of the best. We didn't "solve" Nova. They played a great game, basically shot similar to 2018. We shot OUT OF OUR MINDS thank god lol.

That 2018 Villanova team is probably the best team I've seen in person and probably a top 3 team I've seen period.

Bill Self and Jay Wright coached against each other 4 times in the NCAA tour tournament and the winner always went on to win the NCAA championship. They are the two best coaches of this era to me.

In other news, it can now be revealed that Squeaky boycotted all of the Final 4s since he was hired at KSU in protest of other coaches not being suspended...for being so much better.

I'm sorry but I hope we don't start bringing in a revolving door team again. I would run from guys that are obvious OADs.

Apr 22, 2022 05:44 PM #17

@drgnslayr

KU signed 2 potential OAD's in the 22 class..

Gradey? I don't think so.

Yes, MJ Rice and Gradey Dick are on enough 2023 mock drafts to where both of them should be considered potential OAD players. Neither are surefire OAD, but both have the potential to be that type of good next season.

@drgnslayr

I hope it doesn't happen by the way

Everyone thought MJ Rice would go straight to the G league. And Zuby looks like a BEAST. We haven't signed this amount of talent since 2014, with Wigs and Joel.

P.S. Udeh is very impressive, too.

Rice didn't get the big gleague offer he wanted, thankfully...

I love this class too.

I suspect the NBA "farm system" will continue upping its ante to challenge NIL money so they can continue to pouch college kids to leave early. It's misguided greed that probably hurts the NBA more than help by not letting the college system develop players a little longer in a more wholesome world. It's not easy to create a sentence where I have "college" and "wholesome" in the same sentence.
