Game day - Week 1 vs. Cards
Sep 11, 2022 07:32 PM #1

Here we go...

Tougher to hate these Cardinals since they left STL.

Already a crazy day in the NFL At least two games decided by blocked kicks.

Speaking of kickers, it's so good to have Butker around. Cairo Santos missed two extra points today for the Bears.

Omigod, I jinxed him

Jeez, @nwhawkfan !!! You sure did.
Never seen a kicker do that before, on pristine turf.

Sep 11, 2022 08:28 PM #5

And people thought that having Reid do some kicking in preseason was just a gimmick!

Seen it in college, and it's probably happened plenty of times in high school. Not in the NFL though.

Ironically I did the same thing to my ankle before a season opener once (but on the soccer field). In my defense, it was a muddy mess. Planted my left foot, slipped in the mud and my ankle nearly did a 360! Missed the entire season. Ouch.

Hope Butker is OK.

He did finish after they said he was done!

Fun game. Mahomes really spread the ball around.

Pat is so unbelievably special.

Funny thing was I thought that the offense could have still even played better... Pat and Mecole were so close to hitting a big one over the top. I think if Juju keeps chewing up yards underneath like he did today that you're going to see MVS and Mecole take the top off of the defense 1-2 times every single game.

Pat and Travis have a magical connection! That pass between a couple of D guys, threaded the needle. I do think our D looked bad.

Sep 12, 2022 12:07 PM #13

D will be a work in process.

They did have a few key 3rd down stops.

I don't know what game you watched! The D held AZ to less than 160 yards over the first 40 mins while the O built a 30 point lead. Many subs in the game over the last 20 mins, and allowed 2 TDs, and about 130 more yards. I'd rather the D let up at the end of a blowout and avoid serious injuries. I thought they were fantastic! Bend, don't break.

Sep 12, 2022 04:18 PM #15

D was fine and is young. Far from bad. I would call that performance "average".

Sep 12, 2022 04:32 PM #16

Yea I mean I thought the D was fine. They contained Murray basically all day. The pass rush had decent pressure most of the game.

It helps that the Cardinals (continuing from last season) are the worst team maybe ever in history on 3rd down. Between Kliff and Kyler that brain trust can't seem to figure out how to convert 3rd and 3.

Thursday will obviously be a bigger test on both sides of the ball.

Sep 12, 2022 06:37 PM #17

Ok! My bad.

Sep 13, 2022 02:41 AM #18

And the Broncos go down ! Great job by the Seahawks defense. (A buttload of Denver penalties didn't hurt either, not to mention some bizarre late-game play calling.) As for Russell Wilson...what's that old saying ? "You can't go home again."

You're welcome.

And Seattle leads the NFC West....for probably the last time this season.

Our Greek rookie DE looked good, strong motor.

The guy started playing football only in college, played Water polo in school which in itself is no joke.

Mahomes vs Herbert, two young and dynamic QBs.

Herbert has torched Chiefs in his two years in the league.

Who will come out on top this time around?

Sep 15, 2022 12:39 PM #21

@AsadZ home team wins

Sep 15, 2022 04:10 PM #22

Saw a great stat on The Weather Channel, of all places...they showed the QB ratings of Mahomes and Herbert based on the temperature at game time. The warmer the temperature, the higher Patrick's rating. On the other hand, Herbert's rating got worse in hot weather.

(Should be around 80 at kickoff.)

Sep 15, 2022 04:37 PM #23

@nwhawkfan I do remember that snowy game, 2 yrs ago when the chiefs had a hay day at home. Patrick was making snow angels.

Sep 16, 2022 12:06 PM #24

My hats off to Herbert, played so well even when hurt.

I guess folks will continue to see some incredible and wild battles between Mahomes and Herbert for few years.

Herbert is a stud. So likable. Wish he played in the NFC

He is, which really makes it amazing that he is 16-18.

Mahomes, in contrast, is 60-16.

Peyton started 16-16... I will honestly be shocked if Herbert doesn't bring home the Lombardi at some point in his career. Guy has winner written all over him.

Not fair to compare anyone to Pat. Mahomes is just trying to shatter every record known to QBs in the NFL. And if he plays until he's ~40 without getting a serious injury he will. Even if you adjust for the extra games.
